The terrace, the barstool and the Taxi…

PoonNeed I say more to explain what the terrace is all about? The Thais don’t get it but most Farang that I show this photo to get it so I guess that is all that matters. Seems to me if u r looking for a drink and some chicks u might as well go to Poon Terrace.

The making of Project #2 madness continues. I have my good days and my bad days. Today was one of my bad days. But let me start at the beginning…

We need furniture for Project #2 and we decided to go to a certain part of town to get it. Some people know this area as Tow Poon but others know it as the rain forest death soi. It is a part of town out by Bang Sue that has any sort of product made out of wood u could possibly think of. If they don’t have it then I am sure u can have it made there. We found some amazing door handles and we are having our prototype chairs made there. Let’s talk about how we first got here.

We knew the area was wait - actually we thought it was in Hua Lamphong but when we got off the underground we realized that we were in the wrong spot. I am sworn to secrecy so I cannot explain why furniture row is in Bang Sue but we took the underground to Hua Lamphong but anway. We were know in Hua Lamphong and needed to get to Bang Sue. Common sense would have said to take the underground back to Bang Sue but we did not try to start a business in Thailand based on common sense anyway so we decided to take the train. Yes - the normal train. So we took a taxi to the Train Depot and caught a train to Bang Sue. Total tab for 2 tickets was 20 baht. Cool thing about riding the train is u can eat and drink on it and there are even vendors on the train selling pretty much anything u could want. As a side note - on a long train ride to Buriram I discovered some bar girls on their way home and worked out a few deals in the sleeper car. Trains are cool. About 21 minutes later we ended up in Bang Sue which I think makes it faster than the new underground. Then we took a taxi to furniture row.

We cruised up and down furniture row looking like a 2 farangs knowing that we needed some chairs, saw some chairs we may have wanted but we had that dazed and confused look that I am sure made everyone suspect that we did not know what the hell we were doing. Alas. We know exactly what we are doing and just use this technique to win better deals. Between my Thai and my friends over ability to scare the sales people we were making progress. We sorted out 2 prototype chairs and made plans to come back a few days later to check them out.

So I got back over to soi kill rainforest today to check out the chairs. The bar stool came out pretty well and the other chair is coming along. So I grabbed the bar stool, put it in a taxi and headed to another appointment to discuss the finer details of DLP video projectors. About in the middle of that meeting I looked around the room to discover that I was alone. I was without my bar stoll. Shit. I had left it in the taxi. Somehow between the rain, my constantly ringing phone, paying the driver and making sure I had all my stuff I had left the bar stool in the trunk of the taxi. I started making phone calls and tols the taxi company I was offering a reward for the safe return of my bar stool but so far I have not got any calls back. Life sucks sometimes.

Anyway - if u have seen this bar stool please email me. My guess is that at this point some happy taxi driver is using it to watch TV in his shack in Klong Toei. Oh the joy…

I saw your bar stool last night by the bridge over Sukhumvit by Soi 7. I’m sorry to report that your stool was getting stoned on Glue with another shorter stool and a folding table. Apparently he took off his plastic protector too. Sorry dude.
