If your chasing the hot manager chick/concierge etc, the loud, dumbass frat-boy with a backwards baseball cap, singha shirt and a beer in his hand is not going to get anywhere compared to the clean, well-dressed farang who took the time to shave. If I see a “normal” lady I want to chat up I’m not going to bother if I’ve just stepped off the beach after a day of drinking and smoking joints. If I’ve just gotten back from the golf course with clean clothes and a nice soapy, then I’ll chat up the hot normal girl. Sometimes the latter has worked, the former has always failed.

On a usual trip I subconsciously schedule the first few days as complete drunken debauchery and don’t give a shit. Usually after a few days of blowing off steam i need a break and clean up. Only then would I bother chatting up the hottie at starbucks etc.

All of your posts have been helpful and just reinforce things I’ve learned 2% of and have always wanted to get into more but never had the time. Thanks and keep it up!

It’s pathetically laughable to read the piling on from Punters that are intellectually inferior and react with insecurity manifesting into hatred. Dudes, blokes, whatever:

“This guy is taking/spending/wasting his time for no monetary reciprocity. He’s educating you with info that if inferred and utilized properly…. could radically improve your mongering lives.

He sounds arrogant to you because he’s brighter, more educated, and intellectually superior.

I don’t agree or follow every piece he writes, however I have been enriched exponentially by reading his “stuff.” I have utilized the aspects I’m interested in and probably met 30-40 amazing Tg’s because of it.

The main problem here is that he is targeting the wrong demo because you can’t try to cram a soi 6 cheap Charlie into a Starbucks in search of women with class.

Nevertheless, please keep it coming BBK. There are some of us out here that are very appreciative.

You won’t find a better group of women on the planet. It’s not easy to break into this scene and it’s certainly not all pie in a relationship with one of these women but they are just so sweet. I’ll take one every time over a lbfm or just about any women from the wasteland.

Kenny, I always marvel at how little xenophobia there is in Thailand considering how other countries have developed extreme xenophobic reflexes with far fewer pretexts…..I think it is at least partly tied to Buddhism. I have never been to a country whose culture was heavily influenced by Buddhism that I didn’t like. Even in India, the few Buddhist enclaves are starkly different - quieter, cleaner, more relaxed and open - than the surrounding Hindu areas. I am by no means a Buddhist myself, by the way.

I am sure the Thai girls in the whore venues actually have quite accurate views of the farang involved in these venues for the most part, based on what I have seen, as much as it annoys me to be tarred by the same brush. In most Asian countries whoring is considered a perfectly respectable thing to do and consequently the Asian guys who frequent these scenes are drawn from the respectable Asian classe - just looking at the Asian guys in one of the Rainbow bars makes it clear that most of them are respectable, professional types while the farang seem drawn from the very bottom of the social barrel. Problem is whoring is not considered respectable at all in Western culture and so most of the farang who are drawn to it are not from the “respectable” classes at all, and it seems the only way a “respectable” farang would get into it is by heavy exposure to Thai culture and Asian mores, which slowly breaks down the Western viewpoint on these matters. But this is rare and takes time, as well as an open mind, which not everyone has despite the supposed Western cultivation of this attitubute.

Oh, and you’re quite right about the girls protecting their reputations with other Asian guys. In Thermae every time I have pulled, the girls insist that we meet out back rather than go out arm and arm together. I once asked about this and the girl told me it isn’t good for her reputation with the Japanese to be seen going with a farang, which is totally undersandable because why should she risk alienating her base constituency because of one nice, pleasant farang? There aren’t enough nice farang who share Asian’s guys tastes in girls (and so would appreciate her looks) to replace her Japanese base if she loses that. And yet she was sweet and charming and we had a great time once that small hurdle was overcome.

Another funny thing is that when I go to the predominantly Thai upscale massage placs, like Utopia near RCA, the models lounge girls seem to have little problems with me, wheras Poseidon with its predominantly Japanese clientele seems hit or miss for me, or at least the vibe doesn’t seem as relaxed and friendly to me, although plenty of the Poseidon girls are quite willing. Utopia has waaaay hottelr girls also, by the way! Oh, and I checked out Love Boat, now Long Beach, and there were a few real gems there as well. Poseidon really looks kind of grim and run down compared to these places and I’m not quite sure why it continues to have the reputation it does, although it’s not terrible.

Interesting about the “fishing” phenomenon - in fact I think the entire go-go scene is a fishing venue, a kind of freelancer venue. They try to present themsleves as sorts of brothels, but I think freelancer venues much better describes the go go bars. The girls are quite selective and when I have pulled they always quickly try to move the relationship onto a boyfriend level, which I had no interest in and combined with the selectivity of the girls made me begin to suspect that these places really cannot be approached like bothels at all. They are perceived by the girls as merely a platform from which to move onto different types of relationships, and this determines their behaviour which makes no sense if you approach it like a brother.

Problem for me I am trapped in my Western mindset of sharp distinctions between the whore world and the regular girl world, where paying for a girl means you don’t have to “work it” - yet in Thailand, paying does not reduce the need to work it in many of the venues, the distinction between the regular and whore is blurred and deliberately ambiguous, and things are not as simple as that. In my Western mindset trying to charm and woo and court a prostitute to convince her to accept my money seems humiliating and absurd - all that effort should be saved for “Regular” girls, and prostitutes are for fun and relaxation, one needs to be polite and friendly and kind, no doubt, but one can be socially at ease and negligent and off guard and not trying to impress. Yet,in Thailand, no. Not so at all. As I alluded to in my previous response, I am discovering that the whore scene as it exists in Thailand and the way it is designed here is not what it might appear to a Westerner yet makes sense once you undersand the underlying dynamics, yet in the end isn’t really built to suit my particular tastes, forces me to do things I don’t particularly wish to, like make an effort to charm whores, and that I am better served so far in the regular world of girls, where working to charm a girl is a pleasure. Oh, I’ll still indulge in the whore scene, but differently, and much less.

Anywyas, I should probably wrap this up as I could probably write a small book on this topic. I enjoyed our conversation Kenny, and I look forward to any of your new posts!

I agree with you that my experience might be different than yours because I do not look white although it pretty obvious I am a foreigner in Thailand. The whole question of whether one group of foreigners is preferred over another by Thai women is an interesting one but a question I don’t know anything about.

If only I could be white for a week ……

I also agree with you that there a significant portion of Thai’s that are uncomfortable/awkward around foreigners and that there are some Thai’s that actively dislike/hate foreigners.
When you step back and think about it, what is surprising is that there aren’t more Thai’s who actively hate/dislike foreigners.

We are all in Thailand with more money than the average Thai and going to and patronizing restaurants, clubs, bars, girls, etc., that the average Thai cannot afford to visit except occasionally. We are banging/girlfriending/marrying their women, writing about it on the internet, and a large contingent of us are white trash rude loud mouthed mannerless hooligans who are openly contemptuous of everything Thai. It seems like a powder keg of xenophobic hate and envy waiting to explode but what you find is that most Thai’s welcome us with open arms—Amazing Thailand.

The Thai’s that are uncomfortable/awkward around foreigners but do not hate/dislike us are just normal people dealing with something strange and unknown—they have read or heard about foreigners but have little personal experience with them.
Among Thai girls working in various venues, one thing to keep in mind is what in China the girls call “fishing”. G-Girls and the sideline and models at the upscale massage places (where the girls don’t have to go with any guy willing to pay their fee) are working for their monthly checks but they are also there with the long term goal of hooking up with a sponsor/boyfriend/husband. In China they call this “fishing the guy”.

Every customer is being evaluated as a potential sponsor. Given the lack of education, lack of experience with the outside world, and general insularity of Thailand, it shouldn’t be surprising that some of the girls have some pretty odd theories and stereotypes about selection criteria. You might be getting the cold shoulder because they have some weird oddball notions about farangs which if they revealed them to you would make you laugh pretty hard.

Also among the sideline and models at the upscale massage places, the girls may not by anti-farang but their Asian clientele might be. The Asian clientele might not want to bang a girl that has been “soiled” by a farang and they are avoiding farang because they don’t want to be seen going upstairs with one—similar to white pornstars not wanting to do a bi-racial movie because it will turn off their white racist potential audience to future offerings.

Either way, it is hard to get mad at the girls for being uneducated, unworldly, and having wacky ideas about what farangs are about.
