editor’s note: We have not added V-Club to the guide yet but I plan on getting to these places soon and getting them put in. Just FYI. Thx.
On the Big Mango Blog recently, a reader posted a comment that talked about a different member club called the V-Club. I decided to go see what it was like.
From the description (”It’s a small place with only coyote girls”) I expected to struggle to find it. But the owner seems to have spent 50% of his initial capital investment on the exterior neon sign which can be seen from Korat. Coupled with the fact that the Mem Hip has an equally huge neon sign, you simply can’t miss it.
This place is a simple bar with a mix of live band & coyote dancing. There were three things that I really liked about it:
- The music, from both DJ and live band, was good. The sound system isn’t the greatest, but its a small venue so I’m willing to overlook that.
- The girls — who the Big Mango commenter describes as ‘extremely friendly’ — are outgoing, fun and flirty.
- The prices are about half of the large premier g-clubs. I opened a bottle of Johnny Walker for 1,500 baht and paid for some mixers at (I think) 50 baht per bottle.
The girls were a decent looking bunch… all young. No stunners. Probably the most attractive of the bunch, in my opinion, was a girl named Tuktaa (which means ‘doll’). The friendliest and most sanuk of the very friendly group was named “Game” — and she does love to play. She had me drinking, laughing and dancing. This is a venue where the girls really bring the fun to you! The Big Mango commenter said he was drinking shots off the girls’ chest by the end of the night. I believe it. I’d love to go there with a couple of good mates who were up for a good time.
The boss came by to say hello; a Thai guy named Sam who speaks pretty good English. He chatted amiably with me. There weren’t a lot of customers. I don’t know whether that’s normal and the club is struggling, or whether it was just a slow night. The boss and all the girls seemed happy and I saw three different live bands in the joint, so I’m guessing it was just a slow night.
The girls asked where I lived and were surprised that I’d come so far to visit the club. They were very pleased to learn that I could speak a little Thai, and set about to improve my fluency by speaking Thai to me all night, however, whenever I spoke to them in English they seemed to understand and were able to respond, so if you don’t speak Thai I think you’d still enjoy the place.
They also serve food. I ate a plate of Kapow Moo and some spicy seafood salad. It wasn’t bad.
There was only one bad moment. Game suggested that I buy her a tequila… in fact she thought I should buy two tequilas. I’m not sure I said yes, but I didn’t say no, so she called to the bartender for two shots. They landed on the table, and she squeezed the lime into both of them. I grabbed one and downed it, while she drank the other.
It wasn’t tequila, it was 7 up. At 250 apiece they were expensive soda shots. I made an issue about it without being a total dickhead, but made sure that she knew I was unhappy.
This club is completely different from the big premier member clubs. It’s small, with simple white walls. It feels more like a beer bar than any other member club I’ve seen, but the prices are low and the girls bring a LOT of fun to your table. The music is less related to Celine Dion and more related to the classic low quality but very fun song by the Kingsmen Louie, Louie from the 1960s [1].
I had a bottle of whiskey, mixers, two plates of food and two shots of 7 up for 2,770 baht. This also included lots of dancing, laughing and fun. The band offered to play any song I requested and also offered to let me sing. I was surrounded by smiling, friendly coyote dancers for three hours, then escorted to a taxi by the scantily clad Game at 2 a.m. when the club closed. I was having too much fun to ask the price of a membership, though there were signs on the wall inviting you to inquire. Next time I’ll have to take Big Baby Kenny with me who will certainly get all the details and arrange a threesome with the two best looking girls in the first fifteen minutes.
In case it’s not obvious, I liked the club. I owe a big ‘thank you’ to bkkunderground, the commenter who supplied the tip about V-Club. If you like fun (who doesn’t), you don’t mind 20 minutes in a cab and you enjoy live music a la the Kingsmen then I am happy to recommend that you try V-Club.
The directions that I gave the taxi driver were taken straight from bkkunderground’s comment: go out Srinakarin Road, and it’s next to Mem Hip, across from the Seri Center. The taxi driver didn’t know the club names, but he knew exactly where the Seri Center was.
If you prefer Celine Dion in plush surroundings then head for Sherbert on Soi 63 and ask for mamasan Jane.
[1] By the way, here are the actual lyrics for the song Louie, Louie. If you want to learn everything you ever wanted to know about the song, you can click here to read a website devoted to exploring these lyrics.
Louie Louie, oh baby, me gotta go.
Louie Louie, oh baby, me gotta go.
A fine little girl, she waits for me.
Me catch the ship across the sea.
I sailed the ship all alone.
I never think I’ll make it home.
Louie Louie, me gotta go.
Three nights and days we sailed the sea.
Me think of girl constantly.
On the ship, I dream she there.
I smell the rose in her hair.
Louie Louie, me gotta go.
Me see Jamaican moon above.
It won’t be long me see me love.
Me take her in my arms and then
I tell her I never leave again.
Louie Louie, oh baby, I said we gotta go
ww - thanks for the write-up. I need to check this place for sure. Some questions:
Is there a soi number?
What is Mem Hip?
Ladydrinks are 250 baht?
Is there a barifine - I assume not. Just curious.
Any sense that these girls are in p4p, looking for boyfriends or would meet outside the club?
all good stuff…

WW Thanks for the report. Were all LDs 250 baht, or just the tequilas? I understand the ladies get commissions from LDs, but can they also drink from your bottle?
The sois off of Srinakharin Road seem to have Thai names (Soi Muu Baaan Suan Nakharin seems to be the closest) rather than the normal numbering system. Easiest to get to if you take the BTS to Phrakanong Station, and then catch a taxi going east on Sukhumvit. Tell the driver Seri Center (which is just past Seacon Square), then you’ll see the V Club and Mem Hip signs directly across the street. The 2 clubs are adjacent to each other.

The girls were drinking from my bottle the night I was there. But they also were asking for ladydrinks on the side. There wasn’t a fixed minimum or quota set by the bar as far as I could tell. Me and my friends were actually expecting the girls to go home with us to continue the party. One of the girls seemed inclined but when the other 2 bailed that kind of killed the party. I think a few more visits would take care of that. And I’m sure digits could be traded quite easily for meetings outside the club. It’s on the main street right across from Srinakarin.

500thb for 2 shots of 7Up?
Outrageous. A ripoff joint.

Smitty:
I don’t know the name of the street –but it’s a major road off of Srinakarin Road. The bar is across from Seri Center, near Seacon Square.
Mem Hip is a club that is immediately next to V Club. Together they have neon signage that is unmissable.
The two shots were priced at 250 baht each. I didn’t ask about ladydrink prices generally.
I didn’t ask about barfine, and none of the girls asked about going out with me, but they were a friendly bunch.
I think most of them would go for ‘meet outside the club’.
I got this from a guy called nightcrawler:
It seems as though the girls are employed by a coyote dancer supplier rather than the club, and the owner simply rotates the girls through his club from the girl supplier. I may be reading that wrong, but you can see what I mean if you visit the backstagebkk website.
DJ: the girls were definitely drinking from my bottle. Me and about 6 girls killed the entire bottle in about 3 hours.
khun j: I agree that it was a problem, but it is also VERY common at many bars in Bangkok for the girls to order tequila and get served water or soda. I am a bit philisophical about it. I’m buying the drink for the girl after all, and if it’s water instead of tequila, I’m not sure whether I care… it’s really just a tip for her. If she wants soda instead of liquor, is that such a big deal?
Overall I wouldn’t describe this as a ripoff place, but it did have that one problem during my visit. It’s a practice I’ve encountered at other bars in the past. I believe that it was even practiced on occasion by the girls at the Big Mango.

It’s actually right on Srinakarin Road, not off of it like Werewolf says. Across the road from Seri Center, you can’t miss it.

WW:”Overall I wouldn’t describe this as a ripoff place, but it did have that one problem during my visit. It’s a practice I’ve encountered at other bars in the past. I believe that it was even practiced on occasion by the girls at the Big Mango.”
Personally I have a problem with it, its a duplicitous way of extracting more cash from you, usually followed by a request for another drink after quickly downing the soda/water. If it was tequila I don’t mind at all, if its a soft drink I do.
At that point you have to decide if the girl is worth it or not, I put this in the same category as high starting points in price negotiations to indicate this chick isn’t for me. It just depends how she is and how much you care about it.
In the same token the girls are there to make money and if the rest of the drinks she had came from your bottle at no extra charge it is understandable she’d be looking to make a little something.
All that said if I was intending to stay in the bar and have some fun all you can do is what WW did, make sure she knows not to try it again, shrug it off and let the party continue.

should have read “It just depends how hot she is”

Did those shots of 7up come with a generous serving of vaseline? They had your pants down there.
I agree with WW when he said hes buying her a drink so it doesnt matter what it is, but 250baht for a shot of no-brand lemonade thats billed as 7up is a swizz that i wouldnt even expect to be pulled by the scummiest of gogos?

I personaly don’t really care what the girls drink, and I don’t want to make anyone drink alcohol unless they want to. I buy them a drink because I know thats a way of tipping them and playing the game, but I sometimes just give them a cash tip. I know the 7up trick is happening and it usually doesn’t bother me too much, but it does anger me a little that they lie about it and charge so darn much. I have seen this happen at long gun also, and the part that bothers me, is not only the price, but the speed. It is very easy to down a bunch of 7up shots in a short period of time and milk the farangs money at warp speed. The whole game of putting 7up in a shot glass is just a little over the top.
I had an incident at Metro bar last week that pissed me off. I have been to this bar many times and have been quite pleased spending my money there. I have always liked the low pressure, and laid back atmosphere. So anyway, I took an instant liking to one of the newer girls. I walked back to one of the pool tables in the back, and without being asked to, I ordered a soda for me and lady drink for the cutey. I am about to pick up a cue stick, when one of the older girls walks back and TELLS ME, I have to order a drink,(alcohol) for myself. I tried my best to be polite, and told her that I only want a soda, and asked if she would like me to leave. She tells me her ‘manager’ says that I need to order a drink for myself. I can see from her expression that resistance was futile. The lady drink was already made, and in cutey’s hand, so I walked out and threw some money on the bar for the lady drink.
The attitude, I think is what makes me so angry in these circumstances. I often spend a decent amount of money buying lady drinks and overpriced sodas and playing pool and paying barfines. This has never has been a problem before there, or in other bars. I also spend money on good vodka or whiskey when I do want to drink. My point in all this rambling, is that its all about the attitude. We know we are going to pay, we are willing to pay, and willing to play the game, but atleast pretend to respect the fact that without the customers niether the ladies nor the bar makes money. The high season attitude is alive and well in some bars. Why care about a customer walking out when another one is walking in?

all - Is the sky club in this same area? Just curious.
Seems like a fun place to check out. I imagine there must be some after hours action in the area.
There are a few of these companies in town that manage PR and Coyote girls for some of the smaller clubs. Seems to be a trend. Kind of cool - more variety and u won’t feel bad as u work your way through the girls in the club.
May take on the drink thing is that it is wrong if it is a bait and switch. To be clear - u are buying the drink so the girl makes money. 250 is pretty standard for a ladydrink at a coyote or member club. However what sucks at these places is they don’t have a 2 tier pricing system. At the Mango we had different prices for ladydrinks based on whether there was alcohol in them. Cheaper drinks obviously. did not have alcohol. These coyote places don’t have that so the girl is trying to do her job without getting smashed. I get that but they should fix the system so the bait and switch does not happen.
Then it would not seem like they were doing something wrong.
Metro has lost their long time manager and I have heard of issues. Bummer. Was a great bar last time I checked in there.

Wow. They throw a good customer out of the Metro Bar ?
How stupid!
Not suprised though.
The Nana area has turned into a tourist ripoff area, just like Pat Pong.
The reputation is well deserved.
I used to spend 40,000 - 50,000 on that Soi every month.
Not now.

500 for 2 shots of 7Up?
The girl slugs it down in 2 seconds and abandons the client?
You’ve been in Thailand too long if you think that’s OK.
View all comments by khun j
@khun j - actually the longer you live in thailand, the cheaper you become. the free spending tourist days are long gone as you become accustomed to local prices here.
i think werewolf is saying that he understands the LD is a tip for the girl and he is paying for her time so he doesn’t care that it’s a shot of 7-up instead of tequila.

anon: thanks for the assist. Yes, that was exactly what I was trying to say.
Also, in this instance, the girl didn’t abandon me, she was right next to me (and on my lap and dancing with me and… well you get the picture) all night as she drank my whiskey. The same girl is the one who walked me to the taxi at the end of the night.
In the end, I was very unhappy at the switch, but not outraged. I made it clear that it wouldn’t happen again, I got multiple apologies and wai’s from the girl (who knew though, that she’d gotten away with it) and we moved on as though nothing had happened. It was the only dark moment in an otherwise great night of fun.
I had fun, and that was the most important thing to me.

http://www.backstagebkk.com I went here to look as I have never been to one of this clubs and wanted to see what I was missing. Sure the women are hot but they hardly look Thai. Why pay the higher drink prices to talk to white women. or clearly I don’t know what I am missing.

I went back to Vclub with a friend last night. We arrived at 10 pm and we were the only customers. That was cool for a while because I called all the girls over, but around 10:30 or so all but two of them disappeared (one girl each for me an my friend). I asked mine where all the girls had gone and she said they had a meeting. I’m not sure what that was all about, but the party atmosphere of the place was defintely down a few notches from last week. Also, I saw only one girl (Game) who I recognized from my previous visit. We stayed less than an hour then left the staff to entertain themselves.
yesman: I think you’ll find that it’s common for Thai women to have photos that rely on lighting and makeup to make them look lighter-skinned than they really are. I took another quick look at the website, and I certainly wouldn’t say the girls “hardly look Thai” or describe them as “white women”. Having met a lot of these girls at VClub in my two trips there I can say that they all look very Thai. At V-club, at least, I don’t think the drink prices are very high. A bottle of whiskey for 1,500 baht plus mixers is probably cheaper than a typical go go. Obviously there are other clubs where the prices are at more of a premium.
