You need to spend some time researching as your questions could be answered many ways depending on what type of scene you are looking for.
You could only do the go go bar tour and hit up Nana, Cowboy and Patpong. Or you could do a clubby tour and visit RCA, Bed Supperclub or others and you can mix both or more. Be aware of late night options with the best IMO being Spicy right now on Ron Muang Soi 1.
Bangkok covers the spectrum of nightlife options from upmarket clubs or hotel bars to sleazy hole in the wall joints. Do some research and think about what you want and then ask the forum here for a more detailed answer.

One escort site I could see working here in Bangkok as it works so well elsewhere is http://www.craigslist.com. It’s a free service where pictures and phone numbers can be posted. You can of course get screwed, in the wrong way that is, if the pics are bogus or if somebody is trying to scam you. You have to apply all the security measures here like getting some additional pics, talking on the phone, meeting in a public place first, etc.
One thing holding this site back is the lack of English skills by Thai girls but there are many that aren’t so limited. There is also no Marketing of this site in Thailand so only a few people have posted so far.
To respond to Mochalover on why anybody would use these sites, there is some appeal to sitting at home, cruising photos and descriptions and then ordering in. It’s more discrete (spies won’t bust you cruising Soi Cowboy for instance) and just another way to skin the cat. The prices of Escort Agencies are outrageous but they do get the ignorant as you stated. Craigslist though gets over this by being free to both sides so the prices will be street prices IF you don’t give it away that you are loaded. Same BG negotiation skills need to be applied.
