A guide to Bangkok Nightlife part 5 of Many! by mbkknowsp4p

On to part 5!Massage Parlors

Bangkok is world famous for its massage parlors. Here you can expect excellent service, a huge choice of girls, a very good massage and a guaranteed happy ending in the style of your choice (HJ, BJ, FJ meaning Hand, Blow and Full). There is every style of massage available as well, including Thai Oil, Thai Soap, Japanese, Korean and other varieties. You can choose from a variety of looks, including ‘Models’ and ‘VIP’, and can choose more than one girl in most places. Every male visitor (and perhaps even some of the lady visitors) has to experience the special Thai double soapy massage at least once. This involves two Thai girls covered in soap, with you as the sandwich.

Every street in Bangkok seems to have a massage parlor. Not all of these by any means offer a happy ending, but most will. You can tell by the layout if extra services are available. If you can see people having their massage, then it is unlikely that extra services are on offer, unless there are private rooms available.

The size of the massage parlors also varies from small shopfronts with a few girls up to massive hotel-sized establishments on Ratchada with over a thousand girls on their books that cater to coachloads of tourists from Asia.

All over Bangkok you will see small massage parlors, often with the word “Teen” in their name, which will offer full service massage (including ‘ball massage’ or ‘testicle massage’). There are at least two Teen massage parlors on Sukhumvit Soi 33 and a couple on alleys off from Sukhumvit Soi 26. Sukhumvit Soi 24/1 has a line of several smaller massage parlors including Angels at the end.

Certain massage places are worth noting as they are very close to the P4P scene in Sukhumvit, these include:

Annies - the closest massage parlor to Nana (Sukhumvit Soi 2 near back of Sin Bar on Sukhumvit Soi 4)

Darling – on the right sides of Sukhumvit Soi 12 about 100 meters down from the main road, and specializes in two girl soapy massage

Tulip - on Sukhumvit (the even Soi side) by the Thong-Lo BTS. Always a good service and popular with Big Mango.

There are dozens more major massage parlor complexes, many of which have large ‘fish bowls’ or glass-enclosed seating areas where you can relax and choose your girl as she sits with her friends watching TV:

Emmanuelle - Ratchada

Poseidon – Ratchada, this is one of the largest massage parlor complexes in the world, with multiple floors of fish bowls, topped off on the 3rd floor with the ‘models’ lounge

New Cleopatra – Asoke-Dindaeng Rd.

Caesers - Ratchada

Utopia – Rama 9 Rd near Ratchada area

Amsterdam – Junction of Ratchada with Petchburi

Catherine – Rama 9 Rd.

Chao Praya 2 – Ayudhaya Rd.

Plaza Entertainment complex – Sukhumvit Soi 3 and Makkasan Rd, not far from the Nana night life zone, and includes Cupidys Massage

Hi-Class – behind Emmanuelle

Mona Lisa – Petchburi Rd.

La Defense – Rama 9

Colonze – Rama 9

Colonze 2 - Ratchada

J One (Chao Praya 1) – Next to Decha Hospital on Ayudhya Rd.

Love Boat – on Rama 9 opposite RCA junction at Soi Soon Vijai

Mirage - Ratchada

Meree – Petchburi Rd

Akina - Soi 33

These links detail practically every significant massage parlor in Bangkok, but some of the information might be a bit dated:

http://www.bangkoktonight.com/massage/

http://www.bangkokcompanies.com/categories/thai_companies_p752.htm

Girls in massage parlors can be met outside of the parlor and phone numbers can be exchanged – but this is quite unusual. Most girls working in the parlors do not speak great English, and frankly I don’t rate their looks compared to other P4P options either. The parlors are very popular with Asian clients, but most other foreigners prefer to actually know the name of the girl they are with and have had at least a brief conversation, and prefer girls that (a) can choose their customers (massage parlor girls cannot) and (b) have not necessarily been with 3-4 other customers already that day!

    Yo sampreap - could be you but I am for sure not seeking that level of knowledge. ;)

    Folks - been some email about the Bangkok Guide - many more posts to put up. So please comment as we go. Once they are all posted we will put up a finalized guide in some format or another an encourage people to keep it up to date. Just not sure the best way yet.

    Stay tuned…

    This is pretty useless waste of space. What’s the use of naming places without any review or additional info. Mind as well just list that one link. I expected this to get more in-depth but here we are onto number 5 and still feel like i’m not getting anything from it. And please, Annie’s has nasty chicks. Don’t even bother listing it.

    A price breakdown would be helpful, both for the massage and for happy endings.
    Its sad when they get you all excited and then quote you double the price of the last place for a happy ending.
    Why wasn’t I warned about it?

    Not sure what I can say to some of these comments.

    The plan was this. Take Mochalover’s guide, break it into posts, solicit comments and additions - then re-edit and post as one large overview guide. For the most part I would say, other then these comments, it has been working. We are getting a tons of comments and this whole series is in the top 10 of most read posts pretty much daily.

    Granted there needs to be more drilldown but was hoping that could be community driven - rather than only written by us. ultimately a community driven info site would be the most interesting and reliable. I would add it would be hard for me to personally review every venue listed in this guide given it had covered hundreds of places.

    Also I will add - we get tons of email from Thailand newbies and lots of searches for things like this guide - so we had to start somewhere. Hopefully we can mature it into the real thing and can get more readers submitting content and comments for it.

    Appreciate the feedback folks and thanks for reading.

  9. 9 Mochalover Jun 16th, 2007 at 1:23 pm

    Just to add to Smitty’s comments. This was originally written as one long piece, and I accept that small extracts from it (such as Massage Parlors) may be just a list of places at this stage, but there is more to come and the idea was to have a launching pad for community-driven feedback and you have to start somewhere. The intent of the entire set of articles is to provide a framework for that feedback. I have even held back a lot of in-depth content in order to get the basic information out there and then add to it later.

    I also accept that long time residents and very frequent visitors to Bangkok may get less out of just reading this series of posts than others….but the point is that we were hoping that these folks would be contributors as well as readers.

    JoeBkk: A better response from you as an obvious long-time resident would have been your comments on some of these facilities, including Annies. Your response is like someone reading a restaurant review and saying “why even review this restauraunt - it is crap”. Well…unless someone does, then how does anyone know it is crap? And try to put yourself into the minds of someone who does not know Bangkok that well - would you then still think the series is a ‘waste of space’?

    I remember reading a post on the web a few years ago that said something like “went to Annies and had a good time”. At the time I did not know if Annies was a bar, restaurant, massage parlor or club. I did not know where it was. My intent with this first set of postings is at least to clarify that much for as many of the night life options in Bangkok as possible.

    Just today I was reading some recent reader submissions on Stickman, and had to laugh at the lack of knowledge of basic things about Bangkok night life you see posted there ona regular basis. One guy was surprised to learn that the girl he had met three nights in a row in a Sukhumvit Soi 7/1 bar was a ‘working girl’ when he finally put a move on her! Another could not make up his mind if he should go one night to Thermae or Bed Supper Club because he had read good things about both of them on the Internet. Those of us that live here know you can’t get two more polar opposite places in the city, but it seems obvious that guys arrive here every day from around the world totally clueless about the various types of entertainment options there are in Bangkok and where they are located. Seeing the number of guy tourists in Patpong on any night is testament to that. A later post in the series discusses Escort Agencies, and I feel they only exist in Bangkok because guys are just poorly informed about where to go.

    If you read the first posting in the series it tries to position the entire series as a basis for reader feedback to ‘fill in the blanks’.

    So - a plea - if you know something about any place mentioned, or had an experience there (good or bad) then let us all know.

    Mochalover/Smitty: A small suggestion — perhaps reprinting the first-post text inviting reader feedback at the beginning of each ‘part’ would help achieve the intent of reader contributions.

    I had a quick glance at the comments from parts 1, 2, 3 & 4 and there’s very little in the way of reader contributions to “fill in the blanks”. There were a lot of comments on part 1 but they were mostly about the 14-level heirarchy of girls in Bangkok.

    Mochalover: I have my own ideas about what is interesting reading, and I find that frequently my opinion is not shared by others, so it is not my intent to put shit on you for your efforts; it’s obviously taken time an effort to put this series together.

    At the same time, I find little of personal interest in the series as written(though I did leave a one-line comment on part 4). It took joebkk to break the ice, but you can see from 2 successive comments that not everyone finds the series interesting and informative, but people are also generally polite in this forum by following the old adage that if you don’t have something nice to say, don’t say anything at all.

    Certainly people don’t always agree with MY idea of what’s interesting; in fact I’ve submitted two posts to this blog in the last couple of months that weren’t posted. In both cases I thought they were fairly brilliant pieces of blogging. :) Obviously I’m not an expert.

    Its best not to get too bothered when people have a different opinion than you do about what’s interesting — according to the old cliche “that’s what makes the world go round.”

    Smitty: If you want to develop the nightlife review section, then I think a strong option to supplement mochalover’s post would be to have an “open posting” section broken up by categories (that can follow mochalover’s breakdowns). Categories might include:

    * live music venues
    * beer bars & pool bars
    * go go bars
    * after hours clubs
    * dance clubs
    * massage shops
    * restaurants
    * on the street

    Maybe stick in a button on the top of the blog page that says “Press here to post a nightlife review”, along with a dropdown box by category.

    I think this would maximize the likelihood of reader contributions. It would be great if a venue, once it was reviewed, could only be posted one time, then updated and expanded upon by subsequent comments. You’d have the Wikipedia of Bangkok nightlife!

    Yeah, I know… there are limits to blog technology. :(
    I’m just thinkig out loud here.

    Anyway, personally, I’m happy to get you started with 30 or 40 reviews that you could stick into this sort of space that you are welcome to copy and paste from my blog’s nightlife reviews. I’m sure you have hundreds of readers who would join in and create the ultimate up-to-date nightlife review page.

    Anyway — smiles all around. mochalover has done a champion job creating a post that brings traffic through the site, and is obviously of interest to tons of readers.

    Me? I love what Smitty & Nick do here, at the Big Mango and The Duke of Wellington. It’s all great work and very successful.

    I’ll keep visiting and commenting as long as you let me, and I’ll be sure to read part 6 when it gets published.

    Cheers!

    WW: Thanks for sharing. It’s all good. From my perspective we get tons of emails and people in the bars asking about Bangkok. So the guide started out of that. What is this place anyway - I hear that a lot.

    Obviously it is not perfect and we have a ways to go. My goal is a user-driven guide but it will take some work and some tech. I thought Mochalover’s writeup was a nice start.

    Anyway. Not all agree. It’s a free world with free commenting so I take my medicine - good and bad. ;) We have never edited or deleted a comment unless it was totally out of line or hurtful.

    The Wiki model is interesting and I played around with it some but it is too techy for some people to update and does not show aggregate feedback. So been working on another idea - Amazon inspired but need to hack more. However lately the slow season and managing Thai employees has set me back a bit since the bars come first.

    Appreciate the feedback and the growing community. Hopefully will see us through to a better website for the users.

    @Mochalover: There is way to much going on in Bangkok for one man to ever authoritatively catalogue, as I’ve found out myself. If you were to go into specific details on every single venue, you’d never get the thing finished. There is a happy medium, but it’s going to take a community to achieve it.

    @WW: Some good points. The Wiki approach is the perfect approach - in a perfect world. Sadly, in reality it’s a dangerous one, in my opinion. Wikipedia copes because it has thousands of active users checking for accuracy, spam and vandalism. The Bangkok nightlife scene is by definition going to be far smaller, so I suspect it would end up being a constant battle against the spammers and trolls.

    I still think the best approach is to have a site-approved review of each bar/venue/etc, and to allow comments from readers underneath. Update the articles over time, as things chance. Like on, er, another certain Bangkok website ;)

    Mochalover, my apolgies for not expressing my frustration in a more positive way. The list is quite exhaustive but I think it would be overwhelming for a newbie and still not point them in the right direction. Certain parts of town are good for certain kinds of fun. We really shouldn’t encourage people to mix and match. Sukhumvit area gogo yes, freelancer yes, oil massage yes but soapie is a big no. No use being lazy. My theory living here regarding food can also be applied to the girls. When there’s so much good food to be had around why tolerate an average meal?

    I’ve never been in Annies but have walked by a million times. Based on the women I’ve seen sitting outside eating their lunch or dinner while waiting for clients I’ve never been encouraged to enter. I have no idea about the personal taste of the person who gave it a good review, I remember reading it myself, but I’ve never been able to believe based on the girls outside. Besides Raja Hotel is way past it’s heyday. Only thing of interest is it seems to be the location of lots of asianstreetmeat shoots.

    I have been to Darling and the selection there was quite nice by my taste. Also, been to Colonze 2 on Ratchada for a friend’s bachelor party. That place is way expensive, ie 3,000 to 5,600 for a 2-hour session with some of the part-timers but they looked great. We had a suite of 4 rooms with a huge hottub and karaoke. The gay papasan would bring around a group of 3 or 4 girls to choose from every 15 minutes or so. And inform us of the price per head. All in all, with 7 guys drinking and 4 guys indulging and a two-some for my friend with drinks for the night it set us back about 40,000 baht.

    Overall, I wouldn’t recommmend any soapie in the nana vicinity because the girsl are mostly older and over the hill. Petchburi road soapies are okay but still in the mid-range. For the best young part-time/sideline girls, I’d recommend Utopia, Poseidon, Colonze, Amsterdam and Plaza Entertainment Complex near Makkasan station. I know it’s hard not speaking Thai in these places but best thing is to smile a lot and grease the palms of the papasan with a 500 baht tip. This will help you get a hot girl.

    The massage places around Sukhumvit are only worthwhile for the massage/handjob/bj thing. If you want to have sex mind as while barfine a hotter girl from the bars.

    Hope this helps steer people in a better direction.

    Being one of the more greener regular readers here, I wish I had had this guide before my first real trip there.

    I don’t know if it would have changed much, but I do know that I really really lucked out. If I had not been so lucky this guide would have been incredibly useful.

    I really wish I had tried a massage place, but not knowing the basics of how things worked I never did.

    I did wonder about the place around the corner from the Landmark and almost went in a few times on my way to NEP. Anyone been there?

    I’m not a newbie to Thailand but I am a newbie to Bangkok as a visitor. Having reread all four parts I can see the value of such a teaching/learning guide such as this.I failed to remember the overall purpose of the articles as I read them individually from week to week. When I made the comment that I thought Part 4 was just a bland read I wasn’t taking into perspective that it was just part of the whole. If I were on an extended stay in Bangkok then I would certainly use the whole as a learning guide. It is overall well written and serves a purpose. Thanks.

    Joe Bkk: Thanks for the detailed response. I guess we all have opinions - I had the worst massage experience ever at Darlings and refuse to go back but that is the way it works sometimes though. I agree - not a good massage/soapie in the nana area anymore but still some people love Annies. Great tip on asianstreetmeat shoots - no wonder I hate that place. ;)

    SmittyUSA: Good points and will do a better job on this going forward.

    Jack: Not sure why that is so silly - developing a relationship with the papasan can make a huge difference at thse places. I can now call ahead and reserve girls, I always get good service and he calls me sometimes to tell me about new girls. I would say that 500 baht is some money well spent.

    Joe Bkk: Great, insightful post….just what we were hoping for to make this series really useful for all readers.

    I am rather stunned to admit that I had my first two girl soapie in Darling 20 years ago this month (just realized this as I read this series of posts). Back then, Darling was one of the top P4P spots in Bangkok. As I walk past Darling on my way to Cabbages & Condoms (a good place to take visitors to Bangkok for dinner BTW) it looks to me that is has not changed one bit in those 20 years, and maybe still has the same girls in it. But only about 6 weeks ago, out of sheer curiosity, I ventured in and was pleasantly surprised by the quality on offer and indulged in a 2 girl soapie which brought back good memories….

    I also agree that generally, the quality of girls available in the MPs around Sukhumvit and Patpong is not as good as it is on Ratchada or even Petchburi - but that may also be simply the fact that there are far more girls in the fishtanks and on sideline in the huge complexes on Ratchada and Petchburi. With that many more girls, there are bound to be more lookers.

    I had my 1 & only soapy back in 1991. I have no idea where I was taken but the girl was cute & enjoyed the experience though I remember being shocked by the price. In fact I didn’t have enough money on me to cover it. The taxi driver finished up negotiating a lower price for me. I have often wondered if he had to take a lower commission or they were trying to touch me. Should have asked I guess.

    THE DARLING

    Years ago it was Ok. The Darling has gone down hill.

    2,500 entry fee old towels, cold brown water in the tubs……The girls are tired…go for the quik handjob usually….and I tipped 500 and they look disapointed and beg for 1,000… tell me I’m cheap..ruins the experience.
    I don’t need that crap…
    ….and could that Mamasan in the lobby be any more rude? What a bitch. Over the years, I’ve spent thousands in there$$$$. You think she could be nice or at least fake it.

    I refer to it as;

    Had very good service at a Japanese style place in Central Chitlom the other night. Akane I think it was called. A wank on the water bed first off, followed by a most excellent sensual massage, then another bird joined to help provide BJ & rimming services. All for 1650 baht (or so). Girls not the prettiest, but young, sweet & fun. There are even a couple of sisters if that’s your bag.

    There’s another one on Soi 33 I believe.

    The lines about being able to choose clients and the rarity of giving out numbers are deceiving. The MPs are great sources of talent, especially the sideliners. These girls inevitably regularly have to see boring clients which they are obligated to wash down, etc. In walks you a smart clean and fun farang. If she likes you you’re going to get friendlier service and you’ll get a number. And the fun is just beginning. Think of the service you’ll get outside the MP. This is the girl’s choice.

    So, on the surface it looks like the girls don’t choose their clients, but actually they do choose. And getting numbers is no more rare then with an equally cute and in demand BG or FL. In either case, they choose whether to see you privately or cater to the boring but plentiful clients who have heaps of money but are no fun.

    chris - akane is on soi 33. there are 2 branches. The other one is in the chit lom area. for soi 33 go down the soi from suk and look for the peep in. A short time hotel about halfway down. Akane is on the car park area of peep in. They use the peep inn for service delivery.

    Not sure the best time. I have only been once. I think afternoons are the best for all of these places.

    @Cheapolay: An interesting site and thanks for the link to it.

    Teen Massage Parlors are just a branded chain of small massage parlors. There is nothing teen about them at all. Two I know of are on Soi 33 and Soi 24/1 (next to 26). They are usual MPs but they have no fish tanks being quite small (probably no more than a dozen girls on shift at any one time).

    Yeah, no one’s luke-warm about those salt scrubs. I figure skin (as a cleansing organ) takes a real-work out in this (let’s face it) incredibly polluted environment. There just has to be loads of stress on its filtering, waste elimination and protective capacities. So I reckon it doesn’t hurt to give nature a little shove once in a while.
    But the scrub’s not everyone’s cup of tea.

    I’ve also heard the Chidlom atheletes are not as cute as the soi 33 gals but I’ll tell ya, they do the business. I just let ‘em do their thing. There’s no running of the clock. As for sex? A couple of ‘em are so ready for an engaged grapple at any point during the session sometimes it’s like a freakin’ cage fight. ;-)

    Chitlom Akane gals give a head to toe scrub, shower, wrassle, other stuff, wrassle some more, other stuff, shower and send you home squeaky clean.
    I always feel invigorated after that scrub.

    Akane Chitlom is a full-on spa for, um, like, GUYS!
    You can mix and match. And they’re happy to have you. You can have a lot of fun if you’re a tipper because the Japanese . . . well I dunno.
    I’ve always found the treats to be “on my side.”

    So, Soi 33 (I guess) for emphasis on cuter athletes, Chitlom for that multi-disciplinary Nurse Siriporn stuff :-) (easy guys - no S&M ;-)

    Because of the locker thing I just go with four or five K in my jeans.

    ts - must try chidlom then. I think the soi 33 is less the spa but maybe I did not order the right thing. But I picked something involving 2 girls and was whisked away to the peep inn. I had a great time but I think I need to try the other branch.

    Hi everyone,

    Having spent a lot of time in the Philippines and Vietnam, I’m not a newbie when it comes to visiting asian countries and spending quality time with some of the local girls. This website has been huge in my ability to better foresee what to deal with when I visit Bangkok in March. However, I must agree that this has been more of a phonebook list of places to go rather than a serious review..and with the various postings saying yeah or nay to particular places, it’s hard to get an understanding of what really is the best spot for your time. I will only be there a few days, thus do not have the option of time…which seems to be important when wanting to meet a fantastic lady for a few days. I originally went for the escort service, since accoriding to the photos, they have a good variety of very attractive women. Very expensive and I finally declined since I couldn;t get over the price knowing there was so much more so much cheaper when I go out adn about. But that brings me back to square one…where to go. Can anyone give me the bottom line (and I understand it is based on their opinion):

    Where is the best place to go for:

    Full service massage with a good variety of attractive women
    Go-go bar with the same happy ending and variety of attractive women
    casual meeting place for the potential same ending (I think I get that Looky-Looky) may be the place
    A call-in massage service with, again, the same happy ending with an attractive girl.

    Understand that I am not opposed to spending cash and know that spreding it around (esp. to mama-papasan, goes a long way). I someohow get the feeling that the creaters of this site were trying to give us an idea of how well someone can do for the least amount of cash…again that works when one has the luxury of time.

    Thanks

    LBG

    lbg - no we did not create a site looking for the cheapest fun. I am sure you got to this post via google or something and this whole thread of posts is just one big overall doc. Very hard to boil it all down to a few good places since my guess is your idea of beautiful, fun, good and so on is nothing like what my idea of those some attributes are.

    best to look at some current posts:

    Where can I get the down and dirty regarding Bangkok such as the best hotel to stay and meet some freelancers in a hotel bar. Also if leaving the hotel where is the best place relative to talent. Your advise would greatly be appreciated.

    You could try the Grace hotel, Sukhumvit soi 3.If you don’t mind being surrounded by Arabs.
    Or Nana hotel, soi 4, with Angel’s disco downstairs.

    @Jack: Stay in the Sofitel Siam Square. The hotel bar (well, club really) is called CM2 and has plenty of quality freelancers.

    Though it’s not what it used to be. It used to be happy madness in there with smiles all round, but now the sullen white mingers (Uzbecks, Russians etc) appear to be gradually launching a takeover bid.

    Thanks DW. I still need to know if anyone can refer me to some info or a person that has frequented SiRacha. I really need to focus my job search to an area i want to live. Bangkok may be my only option, not sure. Was also curious….i drink bud light and miller lite….and alot of it lol….do they sell western beers over there and if not…anything comparable? costs? I have the feeling my social life may cost me alot more than my living expenses in thialand :) thanks Len

    Len: You can start here, and work your way through the internet:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sri_Racha

    I’d like to suggest that if you’re going to make a change as big as moving from America to Thailand, you may want to open yourself to some new experiences — like different brands of beer.

    Very little of the nearly alcohol-free beers you mentioned will be found here, although there are dozens of brands of beer on offer. You won’t be drinking most of them in the same quantities, however, as they will mostly have an alcohol content considerably higher than bud light and miller light.
