The Pattaya Ghost - Issue #15: Fashion Club: G-Clubbin’ Pattaya-Style

Fashion Club is as out of place in Pattaya as a rose in a bed of poison ivy.

Posh, expensive, sophisticated and stocked full of stunning women you’d never find in any Pattaya go-go bar, Fashion is Fun Town’s only Bangkok-style “G-Club” and, despite a number of failings, a nightclub that has earned a place on The Ghost’s list of favorite places.

If by now you still don’t know what a G-Club is and isn’t, there’s lots of background here, here and here. But, in simplest terms, a G-Club is a Thai-style nightclub with a live band and Dj, where whiskey is king, and where you’ll find huge numbers of drop-dead gorgeous coyote dancers and hostesses who do not go with customers. Some people hate them. Some love them. But even detractors have to admit they’re a complete change of pace from the usual go-go/pub experience.

While you’ll find G-Club all over Bangkok, the best examples are found away from the farang/tourist areas of Bangkok. The Ghost has been to The Resort and Sky Club and saw the Caribbean Club featured in the movie Bangkok Dangerous. Using these as a yardstick, Fashion Club measures up pretty well and, in a few respects, better.

Located just north of Soi 6 between Beach and Second roads, Fashion Club is of only five businesses actually operating in the all-but-failed Pattaya Dragon entertainment complex. The 1.2 billion baht development launched in 2006 was slated to house the SLIM Pattaya disco, an “ice bar,” and outdoor events area called Moonlight. Construction began in 2007, but came to a halt in early 2008. About the same time, SLIM closed and reopened at Fashion Club.

The club is comprised of two sections: “The Lounge,” on the right as you enter, is a large music venue with live band and “PR girls,” or hostesses. On the left is the “Fashion Zone,” a small pub with about 16 small tables, bar and two small stages featuring four coyote dancers and “models” each.

Setting Fashion apart from its Bangkok cousins is its design. Both sides of the bar are opulently decorated, almost to the point of being gaudy. Deep wine fabrics with gold tassles and lace, overstuffed sofas and chairs and finely-detailed silk pillows are everywhere. It has the feel of Bourbon Street in New Orleans or, for a Pattaya-centric example, similar to the over-the-top interior design of the Penthouse Hotel. Dim lighting similar to The Resort enhances the atmosphere. For groups, or simply a bit more privacy, there are a number of VIP rooms on each level of the two-story club, some with a locking door that, club managers said with a wink, allows to happen whatever the customer and his hostess(es) want. There’s also a cigar bar on the premises.

Another big advantage Fashion Club has is its hours of operation. Fashion closes every day at 6 a.m., vs. 2 a.m. for the Bangkok clubs. And, depending upon musical acts or party bookings, the bar can open as early as 6 p.m. Typical for Pattaya, the coyote pub doesn’t get busy until after 11 p.m. and really starts roaring around 2 a.m.

The biggest difference between Fashion and the Bangkok clubs, however, is price. For non-members, a standard-size bottle of Chivas Regal is only 1,200 baht, vs. about 3,000 baht in some Bangkok clubs. Lady drinks run 250 baht each, mixers 60 baht and most snacks at less than 150 baht. If you wish to have a dancer or hostess sit with you, it will cost you 500 baht for the first 40 minutes and 250 baht for each 40-minute increment after that. VIP rooms cost 1,000-1,500 baht per hour.

Memberships offer better deals. The 10,000 baht “bronze” membership includes 10 bottles of whiskey, vs. six at Sky Club. Mixers come at a 20% discount and lady drinks drop to 220 baht each. There’s a “silver” membership at 20,000 baht and “Super VIP membership” at 40,000 baht, but the 30,000 baht “gold” membership seems like the best deal with 40 bottles of whiskey, 50 lady drinks, free mixers and one free three-hour VIP Room rental.

While physically separated, the format of both sides at Fashion Club follows Bangkok’s lead. On one side a live band plays while patrons sip whiskey and chit chat with hostesses. On the pub side, four coyote dancers work the main stage at one time while up to four “models,” decked out in sexier clothes and no bras, shake things up behind the bar. A big-screen TV plays Fashion TV while coyotes or models not dancing sit with customers.

What Fashion Is Not

While at first blush Fashion would seem to be a high-end, hassle-free Bangkok nightclub experience, the comparisons end there. After a short while in the coyote bar, the differences - and shortcomings - quickly become evident.

From the talent pool and customer base to the style of entertainment and petty drink scams, Fashion Club is - perhaps inevitably — influenced by Pattaya’s seedy, “cheap charlie” nature.

For starters, the mamasans are either older ladyboys or obvious lesbian ‘toms;” something I hadn’t seen in the Bangkok clubs. Secondly, the entertainment is notably more salacious than in the Bangkok clubs, with “models” who dance more like a horny go-go girl working the pole than a the usual hip-shaking coyote dancer. And, several times a night, the models hit the main stage for well-choreographed “shows” in which they strip off part of all of their fancy costumes.

Not that nudity is a bad thing, especially when the women look as good as they do in Fashion Club. The coyote pub employs about 30 dancers and models on any night and, during my visits, at least half of them could work in any G-Club in Bangkok. In fact, many did. I met several tall, very fair-skinned coyotes who had previously worked in the Caribbean Club and other G-clubs around the city. Many of the models work during the daytime for the nearby “Model Club,” a nude showbar go-go owned by the same company and open daytimes only and just for Asian package tourists.

Others dancers, however, are a little too short, too dark, too old or too plump to work Bangkok’s big stage. Some lack the university education of their Bangkok dancer sisters. But despite those “drawbacks,” all of the “second tier” coyotes would rank among the superstars if they worked in any Pattaya go-go bar. It’s just a matter of degree.

Who Let These Losers In?

If the girls are sluttier, the customers at Fashion Club are definitely scummier. While Bangkok G-clubs won’t let anyone wearing shorts or sandals in the door, Fashion Club has no such restriction. During Friday’s visit, three British louts in swim trunks, sandals and t-shirts milled around in the middle of the pub while staff tried to get them to take a seat. (Fortunately, they left.) Later on, two older Americans in jeans, sandals and polo shirts sat in the middle of the pub sipping 280-baht Heinekens while brushing off coyotes and service girls. Meanwhile, Koreans in tiny gym shorts propped themselves up around the bar gawking at the models.

A Fashion Club manager explained that while the club would prefer to have a higher dress code, the club has had to make a concession to its environment. Korean tourists comprise a big portion of the clientele and many, oblivious to Fashion Club’s existence, come on package tours without nice clothes to wear. Farangs, meanwhile, make up only about 25% of the overall customer base and many who end up inside the coyote bar are guys in their 50s and 60s who’ve blundered into the G-club thinking it was yet another go-go bar.

The reactions from guys who clearly don’t understand what a G-club is all about get pretty severe.

“Totally ludicrous prices for drink and how they got away with calling it a nightclub is beyond me!  It’s an upper-class go-go bar if you ask me,” a poster by the handle of “Saraj101″ wrote a few months back on the Thai Visa message board.

“We asked for a bottle of wine: “Sorry we no have any wine left.” OK then, we’ll have two vodkas and Diet Coke. “Sorry, we no have Diet Coke.”  It’s probably just as well they didn’t have the wine anyway since the bottle of Jacobs Creek was going to set us back 3,000 baht!

“So we eventually ordered our two vodkas and full, fat coke and got the bill: 1118 baht! I thought they had made a mistake but read the receipt and saw they charged us for the two glasses of water they put on the table as well as the ice! I told them that there was no way I was paying for things that I did not ask for and she came back with my revised receipt which was still 500 baht. Unbelievable.

Next door was exactly the same. We went through and bought a bottle of vodka for 2,500 (cheap Russian stuff.) The manager came over to speak to us and we told him that the prices for drink were way steep and we found it unbelievable that they would charge for ice. And while we were there we saw a guy almost fall of his chair when he was given his bill.

Don’t get me wrong this place is lovely inside, the decor is really nice and I don’t mind paying a little extra for drinks in a nice establishment, but definitely not as much as they were charging. This place may be for some but not for me.

As I mentioned, those familiar with Bangkok G-clubs will find Fashion Club to be a more economical choice. But the club’s pricing system does have one wallet-gouging feature.

(At least as I understand it), Bangkok clubs have PR girls (hostesses) who sit with you for a fee based on the amount of time while coyotes can sit for free, but you must buy them drinks. In the coyote pub, which have no PR girls (only dancing coyotes and “models”), you are charged for the coyotes’ time, even though they must dance 15 of every 90 minutes. The clock keeps running while they’re up on stage.

Management will tell you can stop the girl from dancing by buying her five drinks, but managers don’t make clear they are referring to five additional lady drinks and not the “drink” you automatically buy every 40 minutes. The Ghost, unfortunately, didn’t understand the distinction between the “timed” drinks and the “extra” lady drinks and ended up with 1,250 baht added to my bill. Adding insult to injury, the five-drink “buyout” is for only one turn of dancing, not for the entire evening, another point management fails to explain in advance. I doubt I’m the only newbie to have fallen for that little trap.

Beware the Scams

Prices, slobs and sluts aside, the biggest drawback to a visit to Fashion Club, however, may be the drink scams you have to endure. While I’ve got just a couple of Bangkok G-club visits under my belt, I couldn’t help think some of the following petty, annoying crap pulled by hostesses there would never happen in Bangkok.

  • Lady Drinks - The coyote that sits with you earns credits for each “drink” she gets every 40 minutes, but also must get a minimum number of extra lady drinks (”cocktails”) per month. Hence, while she’s sitting with you, drinking your whiskey on the clock, there’s the occasional pressure to buy additional cocktails. The menu says they’re 250 baht, but the cocktails are two shots and end up seting you back 500 baht. More pain on my first bill.
  • Drinks for Friends - Frequent go-go bar patrons are used to the “can you buy drink for my friend” routine, but I do not expect that kind of crap in a G-club. But several times my hostess coyote asked if friends - those sitting with beer-drinking customers at another table - could have a whiskey from my bottle and then return to their customer’s table. Madness.
  • I Can Say Hello to My Customer Before? - Another thing I’d expect a Bangkok G-club girl to get fired for happened twice on Friday. My hostess spotted a customer that plied her with drinks on a previous visit and felt the need to leave and chat with him for a few minutes. In one case, she ended up having a lady drink off him. More pure Pattaya go-go crap that mars an otherwise enjoyable visit.

The scams above may be the work of just one or a couple girls. And, to his credit, the ladyboy mamasan (or would that be “papasan”) was visibly angry when told of the friend’s-drink antics. But if it happens with two girls, then it’s likely happening with most of them.

If you keep in mind the potential scams and pitfalls, though, a enjoyable evening can certainly be had at Fashion Club. Just be sure to slowly survey the field to get the hottest girl and ignore the pig in the wifebeater t-shirt.

At Sky Club and Resort, you pay for coyote dancer drinks just like for hostesses, but you don’t pay during the time they spend dancing.

The extra ‘plush’ decor you describe sounds a bit more like Pegasus:

    http://www.pegasus-grand-sukhumvit23.com/gallery.html

I’ll never understand why people think that anything that doesn’t end up in a barfine or a blowjob is a waste of time. It’s as though they never went to dinner or a show back in farangland.

At the club you see good quality live music, choreographed dancing and coyote dancing, you drink, you can eat if you want, and you can spend some time with a pretty girl. Back in ‘the World’ most people think of that as a pretty good night out.

I find member clubs an especially easy place to entertain out of town friends or people I’ve just met or don’t know very well, as we can have dinner then go to the club for a couple of hours, share a bottle of whiskey and head out… nothing required at the club but my signature on my bottle card at the beginning of the night.

It might not be my venue of choice daily, but it’s got it’s place in my life, just like a night shooting pool, a night at the movies or a day at the beach.

Not everything enjoyable in life is measured by how many times you get laid doing it. If that’s the only measure of fun in life it’s probably time to get a new one.

What an educational and comprehensive review of the place. Nice job.

I was expecting a Pattaya G-Club to offer more explicit options for sex, like perhaps a bar fine. Is that not the case here? Same as Bangkok where you get the phone number and work it over time?

not only a waste of time, but a monumental waste of money. who in their right mind wants to put up with all this drink scams crap while clock-watching how long they’ve ‘talked’ with a girl? ‘Tis all just bollocks desinged to make losers part with their cash. Anyone who pays for it under the guise of ‘enjoying themselves’ is fooling themselves.

Interesting report. You mention that the 3 “losers” are sipping beers. This is something all the reports I have read on TFS2M about G-clubs don’t really make clear: you can have a drink and just a drink in a G-club, no? Overpriced, but I mean you don’t have to buy a bottle and/or a member card, right?

@SukPsycho: You can indeed just have a drink, and there’s no reason it can’t be beer, apart from the arse-rapingly expensive prices.

At Bangkok G-Clubs, you can in fact alter the membership packages to includes bottles of beer rather than bottles of whiskey.

There exists a set of people who will tell you that this is not “proper”, and that if you’re going to sit in a G-Club then some unwritten law says that you should drink whisky, but feel free to treat them with the scorn you would treat anyone who makes it their business what you choose to eat or drink.

Other than what to include in your English breakfast, there seems to be no topic here that divides people like G-clubs. Having lived three years in Japan and enjoyed hostess clubs there, I have found myself to be in the “pro” G-club camp. I like them.

The night I had at Resort was a very memorable one that has yet to be matched by trips to Sky Club or Fashion Club. But I’m eager to keep looking. I have no problem with paying for time and, once the whiskey has been purchased, the cost is not that outrageous.

@pmmp — Yes, same as Bangkok. No barfines. Although, as the story implied, some hanky panky may indeed take place in the upstairs VIP rooms. As for phone numbers, I didn’t even get that off my hostess for the night, although I gave her my card and she said she “might” call. We’ll see.

The one thing that did not make the story is what happened AFTER I left the club on Friday. Sexually unsatisfied by the G-club, I headed down to Walking Street where the harsh reality of Pattaya’s true nightlife reinstroduced itself in a hurry.

WOrking my way through throngs of shaved, tattooed football hooligans and chocolate-brown, broken down streetwalkers dressed as such, I went into Gulliver’s Walking Street to use the toilet and check out the offerings. One drunk Buriram go-go girl I know crashed into me then started shouting in Lao. In the toilet some Neanderthal was puking in the urinal.

Then it wsas off to Insomnia where midget-sized bargirls with badly bleahced hair and over-tanned turks in tanks tops thrashed about in some stoned-out impression of dancing. It was all just to horrible to bear after the “civilized” evening I’d spent around well-educated, fair-skinned, well-spoken girls, a nice bottle of whiskey, doting service and a stylish environment.

My bid for the night (including the bottle which was only half used) was 5,500 baht and worth every satang.

ssB — That’s it? I’m hugely disappointed. I thought you were The G-Club Man. I’m sure I was off on some of my BKK club assumptions (pices?). Plus I thought you could shed some light on whether the scams / ladyboys / etc. would be seen in your fave places.

Of course, maybe you’re busy. But come on Dreads, lets have some insight!

btw — If I can ever get another customer down here (freakin’ Team Commando), I might have enough money to buy a membership.

    PG

my thoughts. I have not been to the place so this is just my takeaway but I for sure want to check the place out.

    1. design sounds cool but I am not sure it is really a big deal. Ever seen Resort with the lights on? Night much to look at since it is all about the quality of girls.

    2. Open late. Serious plus but I think super quality girls don’t work late. The truth - a lot of PR girls in the G clubs in bkk go to school. they could not work past 2 regularly. So maybe being open late seems cool but that leads me to think the quality of the girls is lower than what I am used to.

    3. the pricing I am not totally clear on. the bottles and stuff sound cheaper. That makes sense but that also means just about any joe blow off the street thinks he can afford the place. couple that with the lack of a dress code and I am starting to think it is like a high end go-go with bottle service. The lady pricing sounds confusing and it first it sounds about the same as bkk. however bk had pretty different line between PR girls (time on the clock) and dancing girls(no time on the clock - just ladydrinks).

    4. Layout thing sounds cool. Does this mean there is always coyote action or not? If so that is cool. my biggest beef at any bkk g club is the cycle of dancers and then cycle of entertainment and then no dancing. Pent club solves this with the disco room but they just do NOT have enough coyote girls anymore. so if this layout means there is always some dancing or coyote action. that is cool.

    5. mamas. ladyboys should not be allowed in unless they are nice looking make up counter quality LBs. I doubt that is the case. I do not know of any of the good g clubs with ladyboys. I do know of some lesbian like mamas but they are not toms. so this sounds like a big negative.

    6. there should not be any non hotties. end of story. period. no debate. One pays for and expects the quality. otherwise why go to a g club? U seem to praise the hotties in the post and then mention they have non hotties. big minus. my take is I could send any one of my friends to resort and say send me a coyote girl to my room. sight unseen I am sure I would be okay. it sounds like this place would not pass that same test.

    7. This all sounds horrible.

Meanwhile, Koreans in tiny gym shorts propped themselves up around the bar gawking at the models

Here are 2 signs at sky club. seems like fashion club could take a cue from this?:

    8. the coyote girl dance and drink rules sound confusing. the possibility you could take her out of dance rotation is cool but seems costly. Thonburi plaza - another place no one should go to - has the same type of thing but pretty clear cut. PR and coyote can be time on the clock but the coyote is more pricey than PR girls. so maybe fashion club has something unique here but hard to tell.

    9. Drinks for Friends - sounds like some BS. In BKK g clubs the girls will almost never do this but they will bring over their friends from time to time and if they are hot it is cool but the begging is pathetic.

    10. I Can Say Hello to My Customer Before? is this a coyote girl? If so I would expect this. they are not on the clock and doing the rounds. if this is a PR girl then maybe to say hi but not for long and not for drinking. otherwise I would kick her to the curb if she is on my clock. remember folks - the timer?

    http://www.2thebigmango.com/reader-submissions/2008/07/11/tricycles-guide-to-really-working-the-g-clubs-on-the-cheap/

so my overall take is a pattaya g club cant compete with bkk for quality with the type of rules they have. most girls would not want to be subjected to these type of customers. there is a reason for places having premium pricing and dress codes - keeps the losers out. Bkk is a huge uni town - that is where a lot of g club girls come from. not the same in the pattaya area.

I think this place would need to strive for some higher standards for girls and customers but maybe that won’t work in pattaya or they could innovate with on site banging, barfines and sexier shows.

    tough call.

ssB — OK, that’s more like it!

I think you are correct on pretty much all your conclusions. My bet is you’d not like it, would spend your entire evening thinking how bad it is compared with Resort and would not return.

For us locals, though, it’s what we got :) Some thoughts:

Re: #2 — My Friday girl and I were discussing working hours & shifts. I mentioned how the BKK girls can work whenever they want and get paid accordingly. She said that used to be the case but that recently changed management has put all the girls on a tight gogo-type schedule/pay system. Contrary to Thai labor law (like all gogos’s) they get only 3 days a month off and must work until 6 a.m. All of them. So the girls are there late at any time. They also must come as early as 5:30 for meetings, some afternoons for show practice, etc. She wouldn’t state the salary, but I’m guessing it would rank at the high-end of go-go salaries.

#3 — The coyote/PR timer mixed priced thing is screwy and a beef of mine.

#4 - Layout: The “Fashion Zone” is a coyote bar. 4 dcaners up on stage at 3-4 models on the second stage at all time. No live band. The other side has music and a DJ, but no coyotes, only PR girls. Coyote side has no PR girls, which leads to that screwy pricing thing.

#5 — The Katoey mamas are definaltely not hot. Nor the “toms.”

#6 — Some of the girls were flat-out amazing. Pure BKK quality. The ones I said were not were absolutely not UNattractive, they just didn’t fit the Bangkok white-skinned uni girl type. In the piece above, the photo of the second girl was there the night I was. Hot in your opinion? She was of the “second tier” type I was referring to. (The top photo girl was not there and would rank below the best I saw there.) My Friday hostess would not get a job at Resort. She was 28, only 2-year college education, no children, but a little soft arond the middle. But a beautiful face, impeccable makeup and terrific English. I’d do her. (And maybe I will.)

Hot or Not is truly a subjective thing, so don’t wnat to venture too far down that branch only to have people visit and come away very disappointed. But, for sure, every single woman there was better than 97% of those any Pattaya go-go bar.

#7 — It was really bad. I was stunned they were let in the front door.

#8 - As mentioned, this sucks. But next trip I’m going to see if I can simply drink my bottle and wave over girls for the occasional drink. My girl was, indeed, a coyote, but I still had to pay for her time. I did see a couple guys (maybe Ruskie) that were drinking beers alone but occasionally had a girl wander over for a tequila. That feels more “go go” than “g-club” though and takes away from the experience, expecially at 250 a short.

#9 — Agreed. I tried to get my girl to explain why a) the Korean guy drinking the beer didn’t buy her a drink she wanted. Got no real answer. Then I asked why she thought I’d even consider giving a drink to a girl who wasn’t sitting with me. Blank stare. Very Pattaya-like scam.

#10 — OK, so maybe not so bad. She was a coyote, but, as mentioned, she was also on the clock.

For sure, I need to speak to the male Thai manager about the whole coyote-on-the-clock thing again the next time I go. It probably is the difference between me buying a membership or not.

Still, with its flaws, I liked it. Very nice change of pace from Walking Street.

I’ve been to Fashion Club some 2-3 months ago during my last Patts holiday. Been there only once, mainly to see Da Endorphine’s concert and I have only one word for it: MAGIC (…maybe because I enjoyed the concert so much…). I didn’t have the time to check the PR girls as I had 3 gogo girls in tow. But I have to admit that the PR girls looked very different compared to the average Walking Street girl. For someone like myself - holidaying in Patts, I think that Fashion Club can be a nice change from Walking Street /Soi7/etc… you name it. BTW their site is: http://www.fashionclubpattaya.com

I recently visited Soi 6 and I am disappointed to report that it has become a haven of thieves and clip joints. Several friends have been cheated on paying a bill. Change of 500baht, not 1,000 etc, and another for a ‘Lady Drink’ he knew nothing about. In ‘Betty Boop’ another friend had his wallet stolen, $740 and credity cards.
I for one ain’t going back there. I’ll stick with a few good bars in Soi 8.

Well, I’ve just come back from my 4th visit to the Fashion Club in the last week. I go there quite often (for one particular reason).

I normally get one of the VIP rooms upstairs, which by the way, go for 1,000 baht for the night, not the hour. The rooms on the main floor go for 1,500 baht. You can lock the door on the upstairs rooms, close the curtains and turn down the lights, but if you think you’re going to get some extra “action”, don’t be surprised if it isn’t available (or is very expensive). These aren’t (for the most part it seems), general, run-of-the-mill go-go girls that will shag almost anyone for a couple of purples.
If you don’t lock the door, expect the service staff to poke their noses in every couple of minutes to see if you need anything.

The main stage hosts from 1-20 girls, depending on the schedule and special shows. The secondary stage (by the bar) normally has 2-4 “sexier” dancers (but no nudity, and yes, they wear bras/bikinis normally. For the “special” shows, they normally have “pasties” over their nipples).

The customers are primarily Thai (hence the no nudity, as you never know who is in the crowd). Asian tourists and “Farangs” made up about 30% of the crowd the times I’ve been there.

They do seem to have the most gorgeous women in Pattaya, and from what I’ve seen, more than a couple have had experience molesting a chrome pole in their past. Quite often some of the girls are invited to Bangkok to try out for Penthouse (or other magazine) photo shoots. Also, some of the girls will travel to another (affiliated) club in Bangkok, or Phuket (or elsewhere) for 1 month (or more) stints. Last spring my friend was on this cycle of 10 days in Phuket, 10 days in Bangkok, 10 days in Pattaya, 10 days in some other place (Korat or Udon Thani or something), and then start over again. This summer she had to go to Hat Yai for a month.

They’ve added some (3) Russian girls to the line-up recently (from Galaxy I think). Not sure if this is a short term experiment or a permanent feature for the future.

They do have a bar fine, but get this, it’s 12,500 baht !!! No joking. 12,500 !
It makes sense though. Without the steep barfine, the club would be empty of dancers within minutes of the doors opening as horny customers scooped up some of the hottest babes in Pattaya.

Whenever I go there, I spend my time with a certain someone (I’ve known for a long, long time). Lady drinks are 250 baht. I buy two and she doesn’t have to do her next normal dance rotation. She still has to participate in the choreographed “special” shows (which are some of the best choreographed shows I’ve seen outside of a music video). The other night I bought her 10 lady drinks (2,500 baht) and she didn’t have to dance any more regular shifts. I have NEVER been charged any extra for her “time” spent with me.

They do have a drink quota system, 50 drinks a month. For every one they are short at the end of the month, they lose 100 baht from their salary (which is about 1,000 baht a night I understand, for some of them).

Fashion Club opens at 10 pm, and closes at 4 am, but the girls stop dancing around 3 am (but apparently can’t leave until 4, even though they aren’t dancing anymore). They often have to show up for meetings and to practice new routines in the afternoon, then have a couple hour break before going back to work.

You rarely see any “sleeveless shirts and sandals” types in there, and the ones that do show up rarely stay for more than 1 drink (especially after seeing the bill). I think the high prices are (in part) an effort to weed out the usual “beer bar” types.

It’s definitely not a place for those looking for cheap entertainment, or a place most people would go on a regular basis (except for people like the owner of a local cable TV company, or the owner of a popular karaoke club). My bill, on average, works out to about 6,000 baht (including the upstairs VIP room rental, lady drinks, snacks, mix, ice, etc). A bottle of Jack Daniels goes for 2,000 baht. If you don’t finish it, they will mark it and give you a card. If you don’t come back within a month, they keep the booze (resell it, add it to the bar stock, drink it, I don’t know).

    The prices are high.
    The girls are gorgeous.
The chances of getting one out of the bar are slim, and it won’t be cheap.
