Responding to waves of negative publicity created by the release of a new Belgian TV drama on Pattaya, City Hall today made good on last week’s promises to crack down on scantily clad girls and bars soliciting customers from the street by closing all of downtown Pattaya’s afternoon bars.
Shortly after noon, Banglamung district officials swept through the city, ordering all the bars closed until 6 p.m. with no working talent allowed on the street. By 2 p.m., Soi 6 looked like a ghost town, with many bars closed and locked. Others, however, remained open with girls quietly poking their heads outside to alert passers-by that the bars were still open, but that all the girls were inside. What I am actually getting from your post is that you are frustrated with US political initiates that promote and support “Women’s Lib,” and the resulting change in male-female relations. Now I also agree that what the system is promoting is not true equal rights; with a some notable exceptions, the female activists seem to be pushing for all rights and privileges that males have, real or perceived, without the responsibility and WITHOUT forfeiting their historical privileges. And it seems to have many men up in arms, especially those that realized they have been passed over to jobs/positions in favor of less qualified females in the name of “affirmative action.” (This is happening on a constant basis in governmental positions, which is probably where such occurrences are most frequent.) In many venues, the animosities engendered by EEO and affirmative action programs are a constant source of friction and discord, and it seems to be getting worse. Further, it has changed large proportions of the female population’s attitude toward men and life. And we as males have to admit that many of us have responded in kind. It is frustrating that, in the US, it is hard to go through a single day without hearing females bashing males or the other way around. I mean, in restaurants, grocery stores, and there is always a related news story.

As a blogger, there’s something that started bothering me sometime in the past year, and now it’s positively starting to drive me crazy, like an itch in the middle of my back that I can’t reach and can’t make go away.
Part of writing a Bangkok blog is to write about the nightlife. Some would say that’s the only reason for writing a Bangkok blog, though I would disagree with them intensely. For me, it is about trying to make the experience of life in Bangkok come alive for others; to offer a glimpse into what it means to live here. I see politics, work, personal relationships, transportation, language and many other topics to be relevant topics for me as a blogger. But that’s a different discussion.
For today, I want to talk — not about Bangkok nightlife directly — but about the act of writing about Bangkok nightlife.

With what many consider the worst low season in more than a decade coming to a close, the question on the lips of more and more Pattaya business owners is “will there even be a high season?”
The expectation that the winter months would see the return of tourists to Fun Town was a encouraging light at the end of this summer’s long, dark tunnel for owners of many tourist-dependent companies. So they did what they had to do to stay afloat during the past five months, betting that their fortunes would improve in November.
The odds on that bet seemed to improve as oil prices began dropping in late August, leading airlines to lower fuel surcharges. But hopes began to fade anew after an anti-government group took over Bangkok’s Government House, the U.S. financial sector went into meltdown and local and national government officials started talking about bar and alcohol crackdowns. Drinking is an inevitable part of whoring, and beer is your basic entry-level drink. I eventually found my way to Beer Lao, after adopting Beer Sing(ha) because I thought the label looked high-quality, and then Tiger, which friends assured me was better than Sing (DISCUSS). Beer Lao remains a favourite. It’s a good, dry-ish drink which actually tastes of beer. Thais relegate it to the unfit-even-for-animals league on cultural grounds. How can anything made in Lao be any good? The label is butt-ugly, too. But give them a blind taste test and they’ll take it over Sing and Tiger every time.

3.] Makati (P.Burgos). Burgos is another spot where many bars relocated after previous purges and it’s pretty much wall to wall gogos and freelancer pickup spots dotted with a few hotels and eateries stretching from Makati Avenue up until the next main junction – where there is now, I can proudly report, a new place offering lady boxing and midget wrestling (I didn’t go in…). Just beyond this junction after Montana and High Heels, you come to a place called Jools next to an English Pub called the Woodmans Head.

More party details soon folks but pencil in this Friday for the Top O the Month Mango Party. This will be your last night to drink in the bars until sometime late Sunday - if at all. I expect this prohibition to be strictly enforced since it is the Bangkok elections. Bars are suppose to stop serving Saturday at 6:00pm and may be able to re-serve at midnight on Sunday. No one has to close but there will be no booze served.
As to the party. Expect Happy Hour all night, air-conditioning and free music. The rest I am fuzzy on but never fear. We will think of something.
