Many times in the morning I watch BBC or CNN – mention Fox News and I might leave the room – and the talk is constantly of McCain heading towards the right (huge mistake) or Obama trying to focus on the center (probably a smart move). BTW – Farina – Obama not only uses email but he twitters. Shock and horror. As I have alluded to many times before, life here in Bangkok is a journey and when I look back now on the journey it looks like I have been walking around in circles not really knowing where the hell I am headed but more and more I gawk at the white meat. I could be moving to the white but I don’t think it will affect my chances of getting elected at all. I am starting to soak up the subtle differences between the Isaan girls, the Bangkok girls and the mixes that make this place so much the ridiculous heaven it is for guys. Also don’t worry folks – no bout of morality here I promise.
Let’s cut over to current business. Hard to give a definitive answer but I think most bars will be open Today and Friday. It remains to be seen since these things can change at any moment. I think the naughty areas may be closed but it sounds like a lot of the basic bars and pubs may not be. Don’t quote me on it but this is what we are hearing as of right now.
Mango update. Business keeps improving – thanks to all of our customers and those online that support us. It would not be the bar it is without all of you. The new menu is basically up and running. Expect some tweaks and breakfast soon. I have been on the English Muffin hunt and so far the best I am finding is the Villa ones – even had a bakery try to make some for us. No dice. So the Mango McMuffin should come to life but it won’t be cheap, cheap given the English Muffin issue.
So stop in and check the new menu. The burgers are there, some Mexican, lots of snacks and some new stuff. There have been a few comments about some changes in pricing and I will tackle that right here. Every single item used in food preparation has gone up - everything. Add gas and electricity and there is just no way to make it without raising the prices. Happy Hour is all day folks so still plenty of good deals. As always the draft beer is 89 baht for Tiger and 99 baht for Heineken. All day – every day.
I will preface this section that I am still digesting the nuances of this beautiful but wonderfully flawed country. The Entourage post had some great comments about how to deal with the flaws and turn them into precious moments. Great stuff but like many people have said and will continue to say – without the women this place would go down the tubes. Simple as that. Say what you will but most of us are here based on the fact that the women here are in huge abundance and can be very available.
Not just for p4p but p4p is a big part of it. This p4p thing is so nebulous though since it is not just straight pay and go but it can be more nuanced than that. I always struggle with this one and have written about it before but the shades of gray are massive. I won’t get into here, again, since we have many times before.
I was out with a long-term Bkk veteran and we were sitting in a G Club chatting away before the action hit. We were sitting alone waiting for the Coyote honeys but started to chat up two of the PR girls. One of the girls is also the singer. She is gorgeous – half Japanese and half Thai. Love the combo. The other girl was from Bangkok – equally gorgeous. Tall, white and well dressed. We offered them drinks, which they finally took providing we understood that once their Thai customers came, they were reserved, they had to go. No problem. One drink, quick chat, and they left.
This is not about the girls though – my question to the veteran was about me struggling with the gray areas of p4p. He summed it up in a nice way that makes sense for me. Men make the money and women generally get taken care of by the men. That leaves men generally doing whatever they want which is usually trying to get women – lots of them. There are some guidelines to follow when it comes to how you pull things off but generally when you take care of the girls, they take care of you and you can pursue more than one. That is the point of being here isn’t it?
We touched on the sponsorship thing in the last post and I am sure it means different things to different people but for some it simply means you take care of a girl – school, apartment, and whatever and she takes care of you. Given this deal one should get a hot, young girl who knows the score. Anyone sponsoring a non-hottie should reconsider his options. Those who can manage to bag a hottie without paying while still pursuing all their other escapades get extra points. Please tell me how you do it though but when I mean sponsorship I am not talking about the huge sums that get bantered about on the blogs. Those paying ten of thousands of baht per month better be sponsoring a super model is all I can say.
Here comes the kicker though and I learned this from the Thai guys - not motorcycle taxi guys – we are talking well off Thai guys who have big businesses here. Sponsorship means the girl is loyal to you – she doesn’t fuck around. This goes back to the days of the King’s harem and so on – guys takes care of the girls. Guy has many girls. Girl only has one guy. Deal.
I had this conversation just a few weeks back with another guy who used this as an example of how the Bkk girls sometimes, but not always, differ from the bargirls. He said bargirls would get many guys on the go and try to get as much money in – usually driven to this by their moms. He said generally the Bkk girls who get sponsored would not fuck around and know that fucking around is a big loss of face for them and their family. It usually means the sponsor will stop sponsoring if he found out. He went on to say that among the girls there is usually a decent amount of peer pressure to keep girls who are being taken care of from messing up. Ah – isn’t Thai culture grand?
So what does this mean? Play it cool and there is an opportunity to have your cake and eat it to. Now maybe this means nothing to some folks – they are all p4p and nothing else. All good. Or they have their girlfriend or wife and they stay loyal. I am not knocking it but for me Thailand offers the chance to have it all. So I am trying to have it all.
More and more p4p is becoming my fallback position – the sphere I turn to in times of need. I may have a bender now and then and barfine at the go-go but I don’t go seeking it out much. People laugh at me but the less I depend on p4p the more I got game for the other tasty nuggets of Thailand. The uni girls, the g club girls and all the others I come across from day to day.
Not sure if this current transition makes for good blogging since I may not be partying as hard or having as many crazy episodes but I have always written the truth on the blog. I blog my real experiences so I see no need to change that now. Of course I could burn out on this new direction by the weekend - I am only human.
Despite what some may think I believe one of the ways to get closer to some of the Bangkok girls who you may have a chance of banging is at the G-Club. Do it the Tricycle way, the BBK way or your way but there are some nuggets in the G-Clubs – just like there are some nuggets in the go-gos. Obviously you have to go to find them but they are there. Some bang for money and others don’t but if you want to get close to some of those white skinned honeys that actually don’t need your money the G-Clubs is the place.
I reckon it is at the very edge of combining some aspects of p4p with educated women you might not be able to meet any other way. You can go to the clubs or try to meet them online but the interaction is different and I like meeting a girl who may not directly be available for p4p but who understand how it works. I may have to do a diagram of this theory some day but I could go meet a normal girl and let her chain me to the apartment or I could meet a similar girl who gets than men go and party. My theory is still percolating. Any advice greatly appreciated.
Either way I have an itch for the white meat but just like at Thanksgiving I usually end up with some dark meat on my plate and I am known to eat everything on my plate.

I prefer the white meat and almost exclusively go out with them, but again like you I don’t dislike the dark meat and most definitely do not discriminate. That’s the great thing about being a foreigner here, where the Thai guys shun the dark, we (as in foreigners) embrace all colors thus making the pool of available women that much bigger.
As an aside, I had a friend(a white skinned banker) pick me up from the airport at midnight, stay the night (wink wink) and in the morning before she left to work tell me “welcome back to Thailand” with a big smile. welcome back indeed.

Speaking of journeys… I took one into the reflection pool on the smoking deck at Santika last nite. So if you see the young-ish Aussie nursing a beer, a black eye, a burger and a slightly bruised ego at the BM today..that’ll be me!
BTW. Have thoroughly enjoyed my time at the BM this week. Great bar. The photos on the net don’t do it justice - looks a bit dark and minimalist in some of the shots. But once inside, it works. Chilled atmosphere, cold brews, great staff, good clients. A haven away from the Mos Eisley Spaceport Cantina-style bars out on the main drag.

Just a note to the guys wondering what the G-Clubs are like there are dozens of videos on YouTube…. just search like Pent Club Bangkok etc. There’s a interview and 20 minute video in Eden on Dailymotion….. Gonna go there on my Birtday……great way to start the day I think.
I was out in Hawaii the other night……..dam that place was rough. No offense but it was full of zombie morons or gangstars fighting. I went to one club and there was about 20 cops 3 Ambulances and 5 guys cut up. Only stayedone night and now off again. 6 days left……and there dragging.

The idea of ethical fooling around is a hard one to wrap your head around but I am discovering/learning/enjoying that is the Thai way.
I am learning you can have multiple girlfriends if you take care of your end and the girl takes care of their end—-and taking care of your end doesn’t mean you are monogamous or give the girl a free ticket and it does mean the girl is monogamous. There is no lying, no scamming, and no unmet expectations.
One way of thinking about G-Clubs and G-girls is an introduction or training in the Thai way of fooling around. The G-Girls you meet, take out, and develop some sort of relationship with are in a grey area between GoGo girls and mia nois/girlfriends.
You could do the same thing meeting Thai girls in normal life but patronizing G-Girls stacks the odds in your favor. G-Girls are working at the G-club specifically because they are actively looking for and are amenable to such a relationship. The G-Clubs also let you meet girls and find out something about them before you get into anything and are a lot cheaper and uses less time than meeting girls around Bangkok, getting their phone numbers, taking them out to dinner, etc. And, of course, the fact that most G-Girls are hot has to be thrown into the mix too.
You are sponsoring them in a limited way and they are loyal and take care of you in a limited way. At any time, either of you can end it and go your own way, and you can have several going at the same time—all while honoring your commitments and behaving ethically.
What limits you is the time available to party, the money you are willing to spend, and how much variety is enough.
Of course, you have to be willing to leave The Reservation, spend some money without the guarantee of getting laid by a particular girl that night, actually talk with the girls a little bit (learning a little Thai is necessary), and do a little follow up, but, personally, these are not a downside because I enjoy it.

The G-Club fascination continues. These Posts and Comments are really clearing it up for me.
G-Clubs are expensive, very expensive, but the gems you meet are precious. Provided you put a premium on white skin and less “hardened” girls. I don’t.
For me it doesn’t work but that’s just me. I went to the Pent last night and it was AWFUL. A hundred guys, mostly young Thai guys, and no girls. I was also overcharged for some stuff and the service was non-existent. A sharp contrast to my Resort visit last week where I met a lovely hostess girl who was beautiful, sexy, educated, and not shy. She even called the next day and wanted to pursue.
The Resort was fun but serious baht was being thrown down and nobody was getting laid. It takes time and money but if you stick it out you will get some. Again, not for me.
Maybe I will pursue one or two of these girls in the future but right now I still need instant satisfaction. I don’t remember the last time a first date didn’t end up in the sack. Courting involves agreeing on the price and you’re done.
The G-Club girls for the most part are about suss’ing out a good recurring provider. In return you get a lovely companion. Good to have that option available for sure but the p4p options are almost overwhelming and there are enough dark and exotic gems that give it up faster, cheaper and better. To each his own here in bkk and thank goodness for that.

With all this talk of progressing onto different levels of hooking up. I think it’s time we devised some sort of belt system for just such a thing. I’ve taken jits for a few years back in the states and i thought the regimented way of distinguishing the level of students by their belts was a damned good one. And all this time i thought they were there to hold up your pants.
So I say all Newbies and those that can only get laid by paying only the ugliest girls or are used only as a last resort for hot ones are the white belts. The highest level of black belt can just walk into any club and say, “where all the bitches at!?!?” only to be swarmed by girls of all shades with the lowest girl being a 7. All others will fall in between. I’d spend time going into details about this but i have better things to do, like play warcraft and paint cheech and chong movie covers onto Chinese porcelain.

On the After Hours scene, I would have to disagree but again it’s a matter of personal taste, of which I have very little. I was at Spicy last night and it went past 6am and was loaded with p4p action. Pure heaven for me. Yes, there were some losers there but not as bad and crowded as on the weekends.
Yes, I was a bit tipsy but that only helped as I chatted up a dozen or so girls. As usual, the hardest part is picking the right one. I ended up going with a 30 year old, half Thai/half Chinese girl who was a cute and tiny little package. Didn’t take her home because I was too wasted, just breakfast, but very promising.
Anyway, After Hours is very much alive for me. I could have continued on after Spicy to Lucky which just gets going around 6am.
The Tunnel on Lang Suan Soi 5 is at least going again and will probably be a good weekend option. Although, it seems to be closing at 3:30am. Spice on Soi 11 seems to be closing 3:30ish as well.
So, closing times have moved later again but not as late as they were a year ago. Spicy, Spice, Tunnel, Funky Dojo, Patpong 2, Boss, Lucky, Scratch Dog, and good ole Sukhumvit Road. All going strong right now.
Service guy at Spicy told me last night that they will be open tonight fyi but will probably be too packed.

If you are only tossing a few thousand Baht a month for sponsorship, the girl cannot be faithful unless there is some other income source - it costs money to live in Bangkok:
Room - 5000
Electricity - 500
Water - 200
Food - 1400
Transport - 700
Uni fees, uniform etc. - 1100
So that is 9000 to live in a small room (saving short time fees for you). Cheaper if girls in your apartment is an option (probably not if you are thinking multiple girls). And this is *before* spending money, which is an absolute requirement or all her friends will think you are a sticky shit (and she will bow to peer pressure and agree at some point). And before keeping the family happy or her family will think you are a sticky shit (and she will bow to peer pressure and agree at some point). The extreme end is sponsoring a working girl into a new life, because there is 0 income from other sources and the family burden is generally high - expect up to 30k per month if she likes you and isn’t with you for profit (and that might be money well spent if you get a genuine porn star, a much better option than a supermodel imho). There is a huge range there though, and something for everyone.

Agree fully with Smitty - a girl I know was sponsored 40K baht a month by a Japanese man, but she definitely wasn’t faithful or loyal at all because she ‘not want marry Japanese man’, so it was perfectly ok in her mind. Just from my observations, there is some (very little) peer pressure from friends for the girl to stay loyal, usually just a ‘hey! you have (name) already!’ or ‘don’t forget (name)’, which is usually dismissed by the sponsored girl. The biggest pressure comes from the mum though, and she pressures the girl into finding the sponsor that will give the most per month, which means being disloyal is ok. I just can’t see the point in sponsoring someone full stop, let alone thinking that just because you’ve sponsored them they’ll stay faithful - if you live in another country and only come to thailand for a few weeks a year, you can’t expect the girl to not get lonely and not want to go out. I’ve never met a Thai girl that is sexually satiated from getting sex just a couple of weeks a year!
As for After Hours, I went out last Saturday night and was turned away from Spicy, Boss was closed already and Lucky was at about 25% capacity with very little on offer girl-wise. I left alone at 6am. The Thai after-hours scene has been shut down early too - I was at a Thai after hours club, not sure of the name or location, but was shut down at 230am, much to the uproar of the Thai patrons who refused to leave until the police arrived and kicked everyone out. Soi Cowboy has been closing down around 1am for the last few days and will be closed on Friday 18 July.

Thursday Update: Mango and a few soi 4 bars like Jools, Chequers, and Hanrihans still open but we may get the order any time now to shut, or have a “pay to stay open” option. Nana Plaza shut as is Big Dog’s, Morning Night, and Golden Bar.
Soi Cowboy is open and I hear they are shutting at Midnight.
Patpong bars are closed but the market there is open. The Duke of Wellington is open.
We are not sure about tomorrow yet but we may be closed. Fun Fun.

@S - After readin this post the best way I can describe what you are going through is the “honey moon phase”. That means still thinking one bit of Thai-Puss dressed up in a different wrapper is any different than any other one. Some work it out fast and quickly reach enlightenment. Others never get it. The ones that do eventually work it all out then realize the only real difference in the stock here is price and hassle factor. The rest are superficial distractions used to confuse the consumer on what the product really is. A ham sandwich in a paper wrapper or a ham sandwich on a gold plate is still a ham sandwich.
But none of that is really important. The only thing I am interested in is how were you dressed when you went to that G-Club? Plenty of bling? Did you lay your cell phone down on the table for all to see?

I would say that G-clubsAce’s point of view is way too simplistic. If you’ve been out or had conversations with thai girls from different social class you will know this is not true. That’s the same as saying a prep school east coast girl is the same as a farm girl from kentucky. Yes they both have vaginas but they are not the same item in a different package.

I have been fascinated with the whole G-club scene since i first stepped into Forte. There is something about the challenge that suits me, I like to see how much game i really have so far the answer is none.. ha ha too little time to cultivate anything. I have bagged some numbers and made dates but the time i have in Bangkok is limited so it just does not work out. I think with more time and effort it would be a fun game to play.
The P4P Gogo scene has wore out on me, i still go to massage parlors, BJB’s, and AH clubs to look for my action but those thumping lights with “how are you hansum” calls dont get me as excited as before, sure i still go because i want to get off but the allure is no longer present.
As i see the G-club thing its all about your attitude (and the right jumpsuit) with the girls, have fun dont press just enjoy the scene, i think sometimes its best when approached by the girls, that means there is some kind of connection. I dont force anything just go with the vibe and if that means only lookie lookie and no touch… then off to the AH clubs i go to get my fill.
The thing about LoS is that no matter what kind of fun you are looking for its there, be it a high roller or cheap charlie there is fun at all levels … and that is why i keep coming back.

The Pent is the worst of the foreign businessman G-Clubs near Sukhumvit and is atypical in many respects. It is the most run down of the lot, has the worst entertainment, has the most farang patrons and, consequently, the girls have the worst attitudes and are the most difficult to get anywhere with—unless you like being strung along with a endless rounds of “I have to go home to take care of my sick mother tonight but will you buy me another double round of B-52’s before you leave.”
I know there are those who think they are saving money by not paying a Pent hostess and just buying the Pent dancers drinks to sit with them but at most G-Clubs and all the Thai G-clubs, the dancers sit with you for the same rate as the hostesses. They have to leave your table to dance once an hour but frankly I like a 10 minute break once an hour.
Besides most of the Pent dancers ask for two shots of tequilla or two B-52’s when they ask you to buy them a drink and at 400 THB (?) per you could pay for almost two hours of a dancer/hostesses time at a Thai G-club and they are happy drinking off your bottle—if they feel like drinking at all.
Like I wrote previously there is no way to beat the system at G-Clubs—there is no happy hour, you can’t wait around until closing to avoid barfining, you can’t try to get a girl to sit with you for free by not buying them a ladydrink, etc. etc. etc. There is no Cheap Charlie bag of tricks to reduce costs.
The Pent also has the fewest girls relative to the number of customers and about half the times I have been there, you are reduced to hanging around the disco room trying to get one of the dancers to sit with you even if you are willing to pay the time charge—-which is for 30 minutes rather than the normal 40 minutes.
I know several regular posters have memberships there but my advice is once their memberships run out renew at one of the other clubs.
If want to patronize a club near Sukhimvit try The St. Moritz. It is just as convenient to Sukhumvit, is way nicer and classier inside, has almost no farang customers, has a better stage show, has more girls and always has girls in the Girlpen, and the girls are much much much more amenable to going home than the Pent hostesses.
The St. Moritz is also unique in that the entrance is completely screened from street view. It doesn’t matter to me but to those who are married, have girlfriends, work at sensitive jobs, or for whatever reason don’t want to be watched and reported on by the GoGo girl network you can enter and exit discreetly.
Better yet is patronizing one of the Thai G-clubs away from the farang areas. They are way cheaper, the girls are way more plentiful, the girls go home with you way easier, way cheaper, and are way excited to even get a shot at having a regular customer. Overall the management is way more grateful for a regular customer, and the general vibe is way nicer. You have to take a 15-30 minute taxi ride to get there but the cost/benefit calculus is way way way better.
Thai G-Club memberships are 10,000 THB for 6 bottles and the girl fees are 250 THB per increment–usually 40 minutes. The imputed cost of drinks is cheaper than at GoGo bars and what you spend buying drinks for the girls is about the same as at a GoGo. What you can do to/with the girl inside the club is also about the same as what GoGo girls let you do to.
Thai G-Clubs are not that much more expensive that GoGo bars.

@GCA: I can’t agree with the ham sandwich analogy. If there’s a gogo or FL spot tucked away somewhere where the girls are as smokin’ and sexy as the girls I’ve seen in my (admittedly limited) g-clubbing experience, then for god’s sake, give up the info, bro!
So, to me, the focus of an evening’s activities should depend on your goal: (1) if you want a sure-thing nut bust, and are willing to settle for a 6-7 instead of a 9, troll the gogos or FL scene; maybe you’ll wind up with a 9 anyway…good on ya! (2) if you want to hang and get drunk and have fun with and grope and grind on 9s, and are willing to run the (high) risk of not breaking it off in her ass that night, go to a g-club; maybe you’ll wind up getting laid anyway…and good on ya! The calculus comes out close to even for me; it just depends on what the primary goal is for that night.
Either way, as a tourist and not an expat, I find that having an afternoon sideliner soapie (let’s call it “ASS” for short, just because the acronym works so well), really takes the edge off. A daily constitutional, if you will. After having some ASS earlier in the day, I’m much more copasetic later on if I either score with a gogo 6-7 or strike out with the g-club 9s, b/c I’ve already scored with a 9 that day anyway.

@Smitty RE close rate: actually I sat down one time and went over every single encounter I’d had and computed the overall close rate. I came up with something like 25%, maybe 30% if getting to the 3rd base is included. That was, alas, before I discovered SEA.
Right now I’d say I have been much more successful with non P4P in Indonesia; since I spent less time there than in Thailand, and my skills are equally (good or bad) in both places, I have to assume Indo is less jaded towards farangs. pepsi - I don’t think my attitude has changed. If I am sponsoring a girl I would not tolerate her screwing around. Never have and never will. NO change there. No I have been known to partake by banging girls who are being sponsored but not my problem.
The uni girl was being caught with her primary sponsor. She had just always claimed not to have one or need one. fender: Went to Pegasus a while back. The write-up is here. They did have the sex more built-in to the process which is probably why I was so surprised when going to places like Sopranos and Pent later where you play the get phone number and date game. There was a “taxi to the short-time hotel” option available since they don’t have rooms on premises. Nice place overall and different than the more contemporary and flashy places today. More of a lounge in the 50’s feel.

pegasus seems direct but super pricey. u can take a PR girl or Coyote girl out of most joints by making their ladydrink quota. like 2500 baht or so but of course that is not going to lead to banging for sure.

If i lived in BKK, i would first visit several G-Clubs and see where my Mojo works best then invest in a membership and work one of them rather than trying to rotate, i think this would increase your odds of bagging numbers and girls because you are a regular.
You that live there have greater odds than us three week warriors but i still enjoy dropping in… so far fun factor I think the Forte leads followed by Resort and The Pent is 3rd… now these are the only 3 that i have visited or remember visiting…

Love all this denial about the G-Clubs. Guys paying huge money for drinks, bar fines, dinner dates, and then finally (maybe) getting laid after all that work while thinking it wasn’t P4P. That is the game that those girls work by. They just play it differently with higher aspirations for higher dollar payouts than your average bear. They don’t part with their box so easy and guys think they aren’t hooking. Also, when girls are not spinning around a chrome poll or swinging a purse walking up and down the street, guys all of a sudden think they are not hooking. If you want to invest that much money and effort into “trying” to get laid then why not date normal girls? Seems like a better option rather than twisting the G-Club thing around in your brain into thinking it is actually a real pick-up on some level. It just confirms that so many guys are still confused about what a hooker in Thailand really is. And that goes brings back my ham sandwich in a gold wrapper theory, but on another level. ca - I would never pick a girl for sponsorship that would need me to be supporting the family. Just puts u on the hook for way too much money and drama. The occasional emergencies I get but let’s face it - most of the Isaan crew are pretty lazy and could work but choose not to if the girl can bring in money. For me I will never enter into that situation. Our next door neighbors at the bar are in the 70’s. He still works 4-5 days a week. Good Bangkok Thais who understand that you have to work.
