Just a week…

Well. We made it through a week - almost. Business is not bad considering we are opening up in the dead of what some people are calling the worst low season so far. Read Stick for more proof of that and also a very nice mention of the Big Mango. We have seen a lot of our regulars back, some new faces and a few girls. The freelancer thing will take time but we have handed out a lot of cards and have explained to a lot of guys the program. Some guys have brought some girls by and yes - we have a few uni girls making the rounds. The hope is to get the basic biz back, layer on the food and then keep evangelizing the model. I think we will be okay but you can always swing by and buy a beer to check in on us.

We are opening every day at 10am with happy hour going from open until 8:00pm. The draft beer is always 89baht for Tiger and 99baht for Heineken. Draft beer sales have been pretty decent. The kitchen is in progress - we know getting the food back is a huge deal.

In the meantime - we have been ordering some Pizzas from one of our friends with a pizza delivery service.

http://www.pizzadeliverybangkok.com/

Other people can attest to the pizzas since they were in the bar at the time when we tried 3 different pies but these pizzas were pretty damn good. I had a slice of one of the white pizzas and was loving it. Give it a whirl. The owner’s name is Chris.

First Pattaya column from Ghost yesterday and I thought it was some good info.

Yet another ranking list for Thailand blogs. Get in there. Seems to me these are just blatant no content sites for attracting advertisers who don’t know better.

Okay. Back to the NBA finals.

You have set a new low for buzzwords.

    “Evangelizing the model”????? WTF?

You have re-written the “Bingo Buzzword Game”.

OTOH, you guys ARE doing it the right way. Best of luck and I look forward to seeing you in the not-to-distant future.

CHEERS! (I’m raising a Dewars toward BKK as I type this.)

ab - a new low? Ouch.

Well - I used to be a tech evangelist. Nothing to do with church here. So basically it means to spread the word. THe model is the FL thing.

    Is it that out there?

Come on over. Dewars - what the hell is that?

    :)

Unrelated. But, interesting to see a Thailand/women-related article making it to the mainstream US media. Even more interesting are the comments. Any cross-posters here? :)

Yeah, the Lakers-Celtics game tonight was great. It makes me go warm all over in particular to see the Lakers lose such a heartbreaker. Couldn’t happen to a nicer bunch of guys…..

You mean there’s another pizza place other than “Pizza Company”?

    Who knew?

The white pizza was amazing and the crust for all the pizza was top notch. Chris from Big Pizza http://www.pizzadeliverybangkok.com/ said he could have shot a documentary on the past two years and getting the crust right. Glad to have an alternative to the limited pizza delivery offerings here in bkk. Pizza Company is pretty good JD and their delivery service is the fastest but this is the best delivery pizza I’ve tasted in bkk. Still need to try Pizzanotti’s.

As for the bar stock, we obviously can’t stock everything but if somebody requests it we will keep a bottle on hand. We’ve always had Capt. Morgan’s regular black label but don’t stock the spicy label. Dewars we don’t stock either just because we haven’t been asked about it. Give a head’s up your coming and we’ll stock the booze you like.

mart - wifi on both floors free.

3 computers on the second floor - free.

Think of it as an internet cafe but free. And a bar - soon with food.

    :)

I confirm that “Evangelizing” is an IT thing. It basically means: “to convince people that something they never need nor ask for will change their life forever, and that they have to deal with it”.

It is usually done by tech or marketing gurus, which makes it a bit religious though :)

Congrats on week #1, guys. I hadn’t read Stick in eons. Loved this line.

“I got a new job. They just offered me a load more cash. Not a lot of difference between stockbrokers and Nana bargirls…we go with the highest offer!”

I went to college in New Haven, CT, the home of what I still think is the finest pizza on planet earth, so I tend to avoid it when traveling, but it sounds like he’s doing things right. Just having white pies is a great start.

No tomato sauce. Your hardcore east coast Italian pizza place will expect you to order everything, even cheese. So what you might think of as a pepperoni pizza will be ordered as ‘red pie with mozz and pepperoni.

I always thought a white pie was when you spluff your muck in a girl’s lovepocket before she squirts out the load onto the bed sheets.

Maybe that’s why I’m banned from all the pizza parlours in New and Olde England.

‘Bitch, I’ll show you a white pie alright…’

dr007: what else is on your try list? Does it look something like:
    - Pizza Bianco
    - Ball Massage
    - Ramk University Library
    - Sleazy shortime hotel across from new mango
    - ???

    :)

    @ pmmp - ha ha
I think I discounted myself from the Uni visit - everything else is fair game… including of course spending wads of cash in my new favourite bar…. maybe even ringing the bell (at 10.01 a.m naturally)

suk - I swear they needed the stuff I was selling. That is as long as they never heard of open source. :)

    milo - that;s disgusting.

bond - a bunch of people keep ringing the bell in the morning. It could be that I put in the doorway and they don’t see it when they smack there head on it but at that hour they are only buying a drink for me and seem not to complain to much.

    living the dream.

Auk - That short-time hotel nearly opposite the BM is like a David Lynch nightmare. I paid at the desk once, went up to the room, turned on my heel, walked out without asking for my money back, fighting my dinner back into my stomach. I felt soiled for weeks. It makes the short-time rooms in the NEP look like the Marriott (sp?). BBB told me he wouldn’t even take a hooker there, that’s how bad the place is. Words fail me. Check it out!

(YP lives there, by the way - I only know this because BBB told me)

@Pants Elk - well noted. Maybe the boys will take it over one day, then they could build a bridge from Mango to the Hotel. Something like the Bridge of Sighs in Venice perhaps?
YP lives everywhere by the sounds of it! DW told me so.

Stopped by the new Mango on Wednesday. Enjoyed the ice cold beer, free wifi and the sound system was set just right.

    Things are shaping up guys!

Just waiting for the kitchen and the new Mango menu.

P.S. Get the contractor on that leak in the bathroom, or at least have a boat and fishing tackle available for the trip to the stall (will the lake be stocked in time for the kitchen opening so you can fry what you catch?). ;)
