Opening Day and more coups…

June 3rd is the day folks. Excuse the 2 day blunder and the lack of blogging. Just a ton of stuff going on I have not been on the keyboard much. So Tuesday June 3rd is the day. We will open that day at 4:00pm. This will not be a big party but just merely getting open. As if that is not hard enough. We will be making plans soon for a grand opening party sometime during the month of June. Stay tuned for that. If you are willing and able though - come by on the 3rd and buy a beer. We need to pay rent.

If you look down soi mango now you should see a big Heineken sign and as of tonight the Big Mango Bar sign. Hopefully you can’t miss where the place is now.

After we get over the opening hump we plan on being open everyday from 10am.

Here are some general announcements about the bar:

  • The kitchen is not open yet. Give us a few weeks.
  • The original Happy Hour will still be in force. For those who need a refresher the list is here. However there will be a slight change to this. Happy Hour will now be from open until 8:00pm. Once we get going we plan on opening at 10:00am. So Happy Hour will be from 10:00am-8:00pm. You heard it here first.
  • We have draft beer now. The draft beer will not be on Happy Hour though - the regular price will be 89baht a pint for Tiger and 99baht a pint for Heineken. All the time. Living the dream.
  • The pool tables will be free for the month of June. Get in there while u can.

I think that covers the basic stuff for now. We are working on the freelancer program that has been discussed over the last few posts. Obviously this is a work in progress and will take some time. We have started to hand out the cards and will be doing flyers soon as well.

Slowly but surely the Mango is rising from the dead.

Given all this I have not been out much at all. Basically zero. Not a massage, not a soapie, a go-go run or even a drink. Have to stay focused. :) Hopefully soon things in general will get back to normal but right now it is all about the Mango. So I will admit the blog is suffering for the moment but please bear with us. Randomly click on some posts you have never read, dig deep in the archives for that special moment or if you really are something - send in a reader’s submission.

So Thursday I was talking to a vendor about having a meeting on Friday and he told me he could not make it into Bangkok. I was asking him why and he told me he was staying out of Bkk for the weekend for fear of a coup. Yes folks - it seems to be that time again.

With all the action around Jakrapob Penkair, Thaskin’s Class 10 allies and the ruckus over the constitutional amendments - the natives are getting restless indeed. The last few protests got a little violent which always starts to kick things off a bit. Who knows. SCMP.com in HK said to keep watching the Military Channel 5 since it is the first station to go off the air and switch to all music when the shit hits the fan. Now Asia Times is back to discussing the possibilities of another coup. Personally I hope it does not happen since things are just barely getting back to normal around here.

Okay. That is it for now. Carry on.

“we plan on being open everyday from 10am-4:00pm”

Closed at 4:00pm! Now I know for sure: this is not a bar, this is yet another school for try-to-retire bargirls :D

Good luck on the opening day,

I will try to pop up there also for a quik drink, I wouldn’t worry about another coup to much the last one made it very fun in the nightlife areas again as most bars began staying open till morning during the coup :)

    Free Pool , I’m there.. ( cheap bastard that I am ) sound’s cool.

I spoke with your Block Captain the other night for a few minutes while chatting to his sister who happens to own that little market across from you ( right behind the Tavern bar ) she is thrilled to have a new bar there as she expects a lot of added sales..

    Cheers

I saw the template of the freelancer card. I’ve yet to see the proposed flyer (yet to be posted). Question: What do they or will they actually say?

jb - the cards were explained in this post

    http://www.2thebigmango.com/main/2008/05/23/the-new-way-forward-part-2/

the flyers are going to tell the girls that a new bar is opening, the name, where it is and that the pool is free for a month, bottled beer is 40 baht and the food will be discounted 30%. Later we will be having some sort of party in conjunction with empower but no date set.

the goal is to get open. then market to the girls and see how we sit. tweek accordingly. We have no illusions about this taking some time but we have to kick it off at some point.

    Did someone say no kitchen?

Ok to bring in a bag of Lay?

And a Heineken sign. Was Budweiser not available?

Here’s an idea. A free t-shirt to any john, i mean customer, who brings a freelancer in with him. That’s a win-win, isn’t it?

jboy.bkk: I really hope the block captain’s sister takes advantage of the extra flow and increases her inventory. I want to give her business but she doesn’t have much to sell. The last three trips she didn’t have what I was looking for so I had to go to 7.

smitty - too bad. I was expecting a typo but not this one. I was expecting 4am. The big Mango: the new ‘Lucky’ on Suk. For all NEP girls freelancers of 2am.

suk - late night is a fickle beast. We have entertained the thought but for sure it would not be smart to be the new kids on the block and gun for the late night crown. for sure it is duly noted though.

Thanks Smitty, I must have missed the post reference you gave.

I am sure you guys have read about the Pattaya Beer Garden doing something similar in the way of freelancers… have they had any luck? Sure, it’s only been a month either way for them, but it might give you an indication as to what to expect… and maybe pre-tweak vs. post-tweak.

Good luck on the opening day.

I am guessing that three months from now or thereabouts, I will be chomping on a nice Mango burger, but first the ones made of beef…

jb - people have said things are not too busy at the beer garden but I have not been myself. However I still think the model is different in that I have not heard of the beer garden guys offering the girls anything special - other than venue. Maybe things have changed though.

One of the after hours bars in Pattaya actuall does offer things to the girls and it seems to work well for them.

We also expect to get a big chunk of our old customer base back given we already had a bar. SO that should help and we will work on ways to get our customers to bring fl girls with them to introduce them to the bar.

    slow ramp.

    :)

So some of the ‘chaps’ have been round for a cold beer.

Does this mean that the Cash Registers are all installed… or are giving free beer away?

Why don’t the Big Mango people join the protest to show the locals a bit of a support? It is just a bit of decency. As I gathered, Samak threatened to disperse the huge number of the rally. But those he was trying to scare are standing strong. It is very gripping right now.

Maybe I shall recommend this crowd going to show you guys a bit of a support on the opening day. Is that a good idea?

Is there a Condom machine in the bogs? Or does the little lady in the soi sell them?

I can’t be walking all that way to 7/11 or Family Mart.

    Too far.

First there was this comment above….

ONEDITORIAL - “Why don’t the Big Mango people join the protest to show the locals a bit of a support? It is just a bit of decency. As I gathered, Samak threatened to disperse the huge number of the rally. But those he was trying to scare are standing strong. It is very gripping right now.”

And then the very next comment on the thread was….

DAY WALKER - “Is there a Condom machine in the bogs?”

I’m absolutely confident that no other blog can claim this range of diversity.

    art - thanks

bkk - why don’t u stop by the google campus and find us some investors for the next bar. thanks

mr carpet - so we are doing u a favor then by giving u a place to go to? seems fair. sounds like u pulled a yp. start a fight with your girl over nothing for purposes of getting out of the house. nice.

dw - they all claimed to know u. so we put it on your tab.

one - I am big fan of the local political scene but I tend to mix it with the bar biz. seems safer.

dw - what do u need condoms for? I hear u are all bark and no bite.

tosh - make it a patron please.

julian - for sure the staff that want to will be online. at one point we want to build the fl portfolio system complete with ratings but give us time.

oah - it is a special place indeed.

Smitty, you guys should use ‘mangoes’ to rate the girls (like the ‘diamonds’ used to rate Elliott Spitzer’s entertainment providers). And frequent customers could be ranked by the girls - perhaps, by using ‘nambas’ (you can find an explanation for big nambas and small nambas here: http://www.janesoceania.com/vanuatu_tanna_visit/index.htm).
