Progress is being made folks. The final push is always a pain. I spent the morning with TOT to get the phone line and DSL in. That was after spending 2+ hours at the TOT office getting a new account. They said they would come in a week. But they called yesterday to say 11:00 am today. Of course they don’t show up until about 1 pm and then decide the building is not wired so they try to leave. I throw a farang hissy fit which seems to freak them out more. I told them I just need the line brought to the building and dial-tone. We would do the rest. So he relunctaly does it but mumbles the whole time about it. Anyway - brand new line in and DSL testing soon. We put in the biggest pipe TOT has so hope it will be good internet sailing. No offense to the Thai, god knows I love em, but sometimes they are just lazy.
“they try to leave”…. “he relunctantly does it”… Did you ‘incapacitate’ one of them to motivate his colleague?

So what speed is the biggest pipe TOT has to offer?

smitty? just a question about the phone setup… can’t you delegate some of this stuff? surely you can get a trustworthy thai person to do some of this for you? i understand its your start up which is very importantant, but surely you got some useful “normal” connections? or maybe all the rules change when doing business around lower suk? i dont know…

Chuckling as I imagine some of the Twitter entries: “Nong Nui is in the house - yo Sven from Helsinki, eat your heart out, she’s already been shorttimed by Mark from Ottawa…”

suk - I thought of tying up one of the TOT guys and not releasing him until they got my line in!
inver - I think it is 2mb. Oh boy. Makes the real world seem like a better place doesn’t it?
mr carpet - there were a lot of moving parts here. One the construction is not done and I knew these guys would make an excuse. I also wanted to verify the number. Make sure they put it where I wanted and there was some confusion with the landlord trying to get me to use the old lines. I wanted new line strung for this. So rather than taking 2.45 minutes to explain this to someone else - it is just simpler to be on site. Most people in a biz, any biz, in Thailand make the trade off all time between explaining and wondering or just doing.
julian - we will have to see how this evolves but yeah - it might get interesting.
jd - see. slowly working it back. nice one.

julian - I think you are on to something.
I am working on the big mango twitter terminal
a web page accessible in the bar that staff, customers and girls can use to say what they need to on the bigmangobar channel.
it may be interesting and I see messages like what you describe easily happening. I also think twitter short time bargaining and so on is very possible.
he he

Yeah, I was also thinking about a channel type of thing, maybe on Facebook, or sms.ac, or your own newsgroup. Girls post their photos, guys post theirs, leave messages, suggestions, birthdays are stored, or if someone has a bottle in storage, etc. Maybe a message of the day on twitter, scores if you guys do a pool league, listing the day’s food/drink specials, etc. I’d definitely be checking that out - “oh 35 baht burger AND Chula hottie #3 just arrived? I’m going!”
