Happened to pop into Nana last night on my way home from a long walk down Sukhumvit. I love the just after the rain weather. Clears up the air and things feel nice and cool for a short time. The new mango gets an exterior wall. Nice. One thing I never understood about the plaza is why they shut the escalator down when it rains? Weird. Moving on.
First stop in the plaza was Rainbow 2. What is it with this place? Used to be so good but to me this is where all the Rainbow girls from 1,3, and 4 go when they don’t make quota. The place was full of ugly, old chain smoking bargirls. One drink and out.
Then popped into Mandarin Table Dance. Music was kicking and the vibe was okay. Place was pretty packed but I did not see a hottie among them. Also the mamasan can be extremely annoying. One and out.
Quick Nana rumor. The small spot, right next to the old Mango, that was left empty after the construction of Table Dance is getting worked on now. Not sure what it is but I think it may be the NEP outlet for Jupiter 2000 on Suriwong.
Then I popped into Mandarin. Not sure if this is a trend but for the meantime this place has gone to shit. Lots of new, not so hot girls wearing way too much clothing. The security guard known for roughing people up is back as the DJ and playing the worst go-go music ever. The hard rock of cover of the Tata Young song - Temperature Rising was my cue to leave.
Then I popped in Rainbow 4. Was not rammed with hotties but was better than the rest of the places. Unfortunately some ugly girl tried her hardest to win me over while not taking any of my polite hints that I was not at all interested. Then - I shit u not - I spotted what I assume is a girl who must have some slight case of down syndrome working the pole. She was talking to herself and looking completely distraught. I could not take it so I blew out.
Last stop was Carousel. First off the prices have appeared to go up again. My Jack coke was 160 baht. The one ladydrink I bought was 200 baht. Ripoff comes to mind. Then - just after I got done watching the shower show where they got completely naked - I was witness to one of the new shows they are doing. A ladyboy cabaret show complete with one of the ugly ladyboy comedians who lipsyncs Isaan songs. It was horrible. The service staff even let people know they could barfine the ladyboys. A new wave of shark jumping in Nana?

Today I was walking up soi 4 and I see 2 good looking, young guys from some Nordic country. They were each holding hands with overweight, poorly dressed girls that they must have picked up from Nana Plaza. I mean I don’t even like doing the walk of shame in Nana with some hottie I may have pulled but walking down soi 4 in broad daylight with urchins like this makes no sense to me. Then to act like they are some sort of trophies just kills me. This is like saying you are a real fisherman when you fish at one of the stocked ponds. This is not a sport folks. Any one with money can have one. Why not pick a cute one? Or at least one that does not look like she just rolled off the pole.
Enough of the girls. Let’s pick on the guys now. Alright. So you are middle aged, overweight and never cared about what you wear. Okay. Fine. You need help in the fashion department and that is why you never get laid back in Arkansas. So you book a flight to Bangkok knowing that even here, as bad as u look, you will get lucky. Wow. Living the dream.
But first - how about spending a measly 2000 baht and get over to a salon. Get your hair cut. Shit - even washed for that matter. Get a facial - after they shave you properly. Yes - they will locate that part of your neck you can’t see and have never shaved. Then let them give you a manicure and god forbid - let them hack away at those huge yellowish toenails that some people might mistake as abscesses on your toes. You will feel good and the rest of us will appreciate it as well. Hell. After the transformation you can try for one of the cute ones at the go-go rather than the girl with a beer belly who says she likes you just the way u are.

suk - I don’t think it was that many places but I have to move around. The Tourism Authority of Thailand gives me 5000 baht a week to spend and promote Thailand’s nightlife via this blog. I am not suppose to use it for short times but occasionally I do.

We were getting to 5 bars per night easily, alternating nights between Cowboy and NEP over past week, depending on the rain. Add to that the Sukumvit crawl back from Cowboy means a few coldies are consumed on the way back, and then the Car Park capers. 4-5 am finishes a couple of nights.
Will add a few reviews when time permits. Had a great visit in wonderland as usual. One of us still there for a week or so. We get consensus before we give stars on the Guide.

yr: The more polite way is “phom ah rohm dee krap” which is like saying “I’m in a good mood” but in a sexual setting it’s like saying “I’m feeling a little frisky”. The less polite way to say it is “phom ngiian mak mak” which is like saying “I’m really horny babe, let’s eff”. This was from an old weekly/monthly here.
I’m no thai language specialist by any means but this is what I heard from various people (i.e. bargirls) and those are the dictionary definitions as well. Go in peace with this knowledge.

it is not that simple. the whole thing in effect is falling apart based on my earlier predictions. unequal enforcement throughout the town.for instance - baccara bar upstairs appears to be smoking now. most of patpong is back so smoking. nana never stopped but parts of soi 4 have. frankly it is mess and there are rumors of a pullback or some strategy of smoking areas within non-smoking establishments.
for the most part the police, in areas, have opened up to payments for smoking. which pretty much defeats the while law on face value.

In particular no Japanese people smoking foul smelling tobacco(??. Much cleaner at Cowboy. But Cactus John has no problems… does not care. All nude dancing all of the time. If You haven’t been there, tell Cactus John we 3 aussies sent you! Great beers but a paing!
At NEP smoke is still less. Worst place by far was Carnival, but we stil had a great time with the girls. Early stop so less backup smoke.
All bars in Soi #4 and #6 we had a drink in (from 2-8pm)had the rule that guys had to go outside to smoke. Still didn’t seem to concern customers. Everyone needs a break from feelng a good Thai…. at some time. Yes/No ?
Alex from Alex Bar seems to believe that it will all end ( early closing and smoling ban) next month. Don’t know where he gets his info from but that is what he tells the girls anyway!

The Ladyboy show in Carousel sounds like the one they have in Cascade (lb bar on the 3rd floor). Must be the same act but they have different performers every time playing the fat ugly builder in overdone clown make up and a frock.

The cabaret ladyboy show is a traveling show that goes from one katoey bar to another.
When I was photographing them I thought there was two different troops, but found out there was three separate groups of performers, mostly lip synching in costumes and makeup.
