I used to go to Tokyo a lot for business. Back in the boom days of enterprise software sales the main account I helped with in Tokyo was NTT DoCoMo. Our software was used for the back end that kept track of what the customer was using and helped to generate the bills. The more DoCoMo grew the more software we sold. The DoCoMo sales rep essentially would show up once a quarter and take an order. Sick money.
So one evening after a night getting the DoCoMo team completely pissed on saki the sales rep and I headed out to Nishi Azabu for some drinking off the clock. He said he had a new place to take me to. I honestly can’t remember how we got to the place but we walked down some back alley and came upon a non-desrcript door. He used a card with a chip on it and held it to a sensor on the door. The door opened and we walked into a hallway that lead to another door.
There was a video screen on the wall and we were looking at ourselves in the hallway. Then in Japanese someone talked to us and my friend answered some question in Japanese and they let us in. Turns out my friend was a member at some exclusive hostess bar with only foreign girls. Drinks were like 20 bucks a pop for us and 40 for the girls. We were spending DoCoMo funny money. I loved the exclusiveness of it all and the fact that without being a member you just were not allowed in. In fact I am not sure how anyone would ever know the place was there.
I have always wondered where a scene like this exists in Bangkok. In my naive days people would mention the Pent and the Resort and I used to think they were similar. Now though, my g club virginity popped, I realize that anyone can roll into these places. I still believe these places are different than say Cowboy or Nana but they are not the holy grail.
When I first started coming to Bangkok I had someone explain to me once about a go-go that was private and one could only go if you knew someone who had been there. At first I believed it but knowing what I know about the business now I don’t think a place like that exists.
About a year into coming to Bangkok regularly I had a friend who was quite clued in about the place tell me a story about what happened one night when he had closed Cowboy and was still looking to drink. He got the usual taxi driver telling him about some place to drink with ladies. My friend speaks Thai and told the taxi driver that he had probably been to every place he might mention. The taxi said okay but what if I take you somewhere you have never been but I can’t promise the ladies will go with you. If I take you though I want 500 baht. My friend said as long as you bring me back home then sure I will pay you 500 baht when I get home. This was 4 years ago so 500 baht was a barfine.
My friend was buzzed but figured they finally stopped at some apartment building out in the Ramkamhaeng area. The taxi got out and told him to wait. He came back later with a ladyboy carrying a binder. The ladyboy spoke pretty good English and told my friend that none of the current girls available accepted Farang customers. My friend was somewhat confused and asked for an explanation. So the ladyboy explained that the girls in her binder lived in the building and see customers from time to time when they need money. They were all uni students, did not work in bars and would not been seen conducting a transaction. The ladyboy keeps track of which girls need a customer and which customers she can girl based on what kind of girls the customers like. She brokers the deal but she repeated that they do not have Farang customers. She called some of the girls just to ask but they said no.
Of course my friend offered to pay whatever the girls wanted and asked if the ladyboy could double check. She made a few more calls but there were no takers. My friend asked to peek at the book and the ladyboy showed him a page or two but covered up the numbers. From what he could tell it was pictures, body and head shots but not naked with some notes in Thai, a phone number and probably an apt. number. All he could think of was banging some young uni girl but it was not going to happen.
He got back in the taxi and asked to go home. He was too drunk and confused to bother noting where he was but in talking to the taxi driver more he was told there are ladyboys like this all over town working the uni girls but he repeated that the Thais do not want the Farang banging these girls. He said the Farang can go to the go-go bar.
I had completely forgotten about what my friend had said but of course I always have figured somewhere there is a Thai scene with girls where the Farang are not allowed. Low and behold a few weeks back bkk22 sent me an email talking about how some Thai guys he knows started to tell him about where they go to bang girls. It ain’t Cowboy boys. It’s not the member clubs. It’s the uni girls. The ones you and I can’t get to.
I had been holding this one in the can for much longer than normal hoping to dig around and get a little more info. I did confirm through my girl that there is one of these agents at her school but the agent would not talk to my girl when she told her she was not looking to be put on the roll call.
So here is how bkk22 explains it. He verified with me he has seen the MMSs showing the girls.
Most people that come to visit Bangkok are familiar with the name Patpong, Nana and Cowboy, the red light area synonymous with foreigners. Some even venture up to the Thai dominated strip of Ratchada which is lined with neon lighted massage parlours most frequented by Thai men. It would be hard to find someone that doesn’t agree that sex, not to use a tired cliché, is in the air in Bangkok. From skin tight university outfits to girls plying their trade on the streets outside Lumphini Park you don’t have to try hard to see it, let alone find it.
For as much as it’s in your face there is also an underground aspect that foreigners will never see, let alone know about. This aspect relates to people called Agents. This is a scene in which university students who need some cash to pay tuition or just want some new shoes or the newest bag provide their services in an ultra-discreet manner.
Here is how it works, from the mouth of experienced player in this game, who revealed this information to me one day around the water cooler.
Most universities, even those well known ones that start with A, C and T have people called “Agents”. These Agents are usually ladyboys or gay guys who can make women feel comfortable and befriend them. They are usually good a spotting girls that might have money trouble or girls who are living beyond their means. They approach the girls and say they can make some extra cash if need be with very little time invested.
The Agent builds a roster of girls and when they are short of cash the agent makes a call to some of the people in his rolodex to see if they are interested in the goods. Girls can usually find the agent by going to a specified restaurant around the university and looking for a signal, for example a box a Marlboro Reds placed on the corner of a table A photo is sent by MMS and if the client is satisfied; time, place and price are agreed upon. The Agent gets 500 baht, the girl gets her money and the guy gets, well we know what he gets. After that the parties can agree for further meetings or it can be a one time deal, entirely up to them.
Price usually depends on the supposed pedigree of the girl. Factors included are what university they go to , where they are from and looks. The girls are usually from the Chiang Mai area or down south but there are plenty of Bangkok girls thrown into the mix. They of course, are fair skinned, since this service only applies to select Thai men who have the means to do this.
This is not a mia noi situation, they don’t support these girls (although it may lead to that) but more of a wham, bam thank you ma’am deal and that is why it is attractive to those men who are married and don’t want to put out the cash for a mia noi or the problems that may come with a situation like that.
As the conversation was taking place the reasoning behind why this was such an acceptable practice was the girls were in need and the money is going to a good cause, especially when it is for tuition. One time this experienced player set up an appointment and the girl came in her own brand new car. It was discovered the girl came from a nice family and had plenty of money. The player was not happy as the girl didn’t need the money and he felt it was waste. I guess it’s like making a donation to a charity for some people.
I used to know an agent just like this back in the States. He was a huge black guy who carried a straight razor and had fuzzy pink dice hanging from the rearview mirror of his tricked out Caddy DeVille. Damn, I wonder if he was really a ladyboy?

g - my friend paid. I did not and if I added up all the money I have paid cab drivers to find things I did not know about I am sure it is in the 10,000s by now but that is how u find new things and get off the beaten path. Small price to pay to find out that there is more to life than Sukhumvit.
I still plan on cracking the agent world further. Where there is a will there is a way.

3 - the plan is to take possession of the mango HQ this week and start construction. We are not projection an opening date since it is too early to tell. For sure though it won’t be april.

jb - I think some just don’t want to be with farang. as bf’s or as customers. Given these girls are part timers they probably don’t deal with farang as bf’s or lovers so why should they as customers?
Interesting thing is, in this example, the Thai guys for sure don’t want the Farangs knowing about this whole deal to begin with.
For me I have never seen it to be a big deal that a Thai girl, working or not, has not interest in a Farang. Why should they?

A lot of Thai girls won’t be with a farang for one simple reason, their families will not approve. Thai children, no matter what they like or how they feel will not disrespect their parents feelings and thus it is never an option for them. This practice goes for a lot of the big name families here.
The girls working at uni probably have the impression, as many Thai people do, that all farangs are big, hairy and smelly. To a lot of girls farangs are just plain “ngak liet” (scary).

Somehow many of us (including myself) are attracted to women that we cannot bang. If it is very easy to get a girl into your bed then the sexual excitement is a lot less. When i came here in the late 70’s, every local girl was after a farang guy..it was either a way outta poverty or out of the country to a ‘better-life’.

@anon: Maybe it is not the Thai girls’ personal preference, but rather the personal preference of the Thai market (meaning men and middlemen (sorry: woman, sorry: man)), they are supposed to be targeting. I also don’t buy this big C0ck argument to avoid farang either.

@jb - why wouldn’t it be up to their personal preference? it may not have anything to do with physical size/girth/whatever. perhaps they prefer other thais/asians because looks, experiences, cultures, and backgrounds are similar and they are hesitant to venture into the unknown. some may avoid farang as to not be mistaken for a bargirl. some may just simply dislike farang foreigners.
for example - black chics and arabic chics don’t do anything for me at all and it’s my personal preference to not be involved with one.

yes it does jb, unfortunately not all people in the world are like you. some people are racist/biased/whatever. which is why thais are so obsessed with making their skin as white as possible. believing that dark skin is “dirty” which is why most of them dislike blacks.

Reading through the thread…it seems obvious that some people here are hurting because there are Thai women (uni girls) who are not interested or easily lured by farang dollars. Are the uni girl the next holy grail for seasoned mongers?
Thai and other Asian men see a huge difference between women who will go with farangs (NEP,Cowboy etc..) and those who specifically just go for Asian men, and prefer and will pay a premium for the latter.

msb: the Uni girls are just another flavor. You are still paying for ice cream but Uni Girl ice cream taste a bit different. I don’t mean that literally although that is up for debate as well.
Personally, at my stage here in Thailand I still like the bargirls and freelancers but as it is so available and the “script” is very similar each time it does make pursuing other options attractive. The Uni girls are everywhere but unless you have a pimp connection in like described here it’s more of a challenge to land one which is in of itself more fun. Are they better in bed? Probably not in most cases but it is different and more of a mixed bag.
On a related not, at the old Mango we reserved Sundays for the girls to wear Uni outfits. It was popular with some customers but the girls hated it. Probably because it reminded them that they never went. We dropped it eventually but I must admit that it was fun going to MBK with three of the girls and watching them try on the outfits.

And psi100th just proved my point. We talk about the girls’ preferences, but do they really have them or is it the preference of the venue. Remember, the girls choose their venue based on where their friends have directed them. Perhaps, the girls in this equation are “encouraged” to go with only ONE type of male, but at the end of the day, they are there to make money.

As a group we have had much more sanook all night with girls from the NEP and local Nana bars we visit. Maybe its different if you are with a couple of mates. It is all about having a great time. Horses for courses and it wouldn’t happen in our local bar in Oz, and that is for sure.

t - on the uni outfit. I am not sure there is a standard size since you can buy the outfits all over town but most girls will get them shortened, tightened and even get some buttons removed to tighten up the bust. My girls buys hers and takes them right away to get them worked on.

With so much interest in Uni girls (or is it just their uniform?) I’m surprised that no-one has opened a bar to cater for this.
pmmp, I never made it to the old Mango bar but would have loved to have been there on a Uni uniform Sunday. Also it’s interesting that you say that the girls didn’t like wearing the uniform, I wonder if this is a problem throughout the bar scene.

I was also once taken to a place by a taxi driver after falling out of Soi Cowboy at about 3am. Unfortunately it was nothing like the ones described here. It was somewhere in Yaworat (is that how you spell it?) in a multi-storey car park. I was ushered in to a place where girls were chained to beds. I immediately sobered up and pleaded with the taxi driver to get me out of the place which, thankfully, he did. I think this was my 3rd or 4th day in Thailand and I was shitting myself.
