Guide tidbits, club rumors and friends in need…

bosom.jpgGot a call from a buddy who lives on my soi who happens to be under the weather. He wanted to know if I could bring some movies over to give him something to do while he recuperated. I took him over a bag of movies being careful to remove any of the weird Saxondale like porn that I might possess. Later in the evening I sent him an MMS hoping to cheer him up a bit but turns out his crappy phone won’t do MMS. Photo to the left.

Added and modified a few guide items.

You may recall I mentioned that Genesis will be closing down to make way for another club.  I noticed a few weeks ago that Pizza Zannotti had cleared out and last night I noticed Genesis doing the same. Rumor is that the guys behind the Tunnel will be using the space to build another nightclub in conjunction with the Genesis management. Bar to be called Diva - but don’t quote me on that. As we have mentioned here before more clubs is a good thing and will continue to shake up the overall club scene and Suk Soi 11 in particular. I was told this is to be a normal hours club but so was the Tunnel.

Added the 2 new bars on Sukhumvit Soi 13. The Sport Bar and Oasis 2. I am not sure where Oasis 1 is. These are both bars that have relocated from Sukhumvit Soi 1 plaza. They are in the Trendy condo building which so far has not proven to be very trendy. Funny thing is - I talked to Trendy building management about 6 months ago to get information and pricing for the retail store fronts and I was flatly told no bars/clubs since they did not want that type of clientele. Looks like given all the empty storefronts they still have, management has changed their mind?

Most of the places are still not rented out and I hear biz is not too good for Soi 13 venues.

keep plugging away - smoke free…

Soi 13 is like dead: there is nobody, besides by night it’s a quite dark soi. So no wonder that business isn’t good…

When the Sports Bar in Trendy opened they put flyers in my building. I called a friend and suggested we meet there to check it out (about 3 months ago). As I was walking there he called me and said not to bother, as it was totally lame. He hadn’t even stayed long enough to order a beer.

yeah - when I was getting details for the guide I was getting hounded by girls from both bars. All ugly and all annoying as hell. I would not have bothered even going inside.

I was also very surprised when I saw the 2 beer bars open several months ago in the Trendy ground floor front shops. Beer bars don’t seem to fit in with the up-scale theme of Trendy.

Nice pool tables in the Sports Bar, and both bars were busy when I dropped in early January. I think many Soi 1 beer bar owners didn’t want to abandon their business because they had paid large key money amounts when they initially leased their Soi 1 bars.

Smitty, saw a few sprinklings, but nothing to write home about. There is an ugly lady boy in the booth opposite. Massive feet!

Smitty: You walk past Oasis 1 every day. It is above the Swan Inn at the junction of Soi 4 and Soi 6. You walk into the Swan restaurant and go up the stairs. It opened last November and stays open very late if there are customers. It’s a run-of-the-mill pool bar with a friendly mamasan and girls. There is an after-hours disco next to it which I assume has the same owner. When I popped my head through the disco door recently, there was music playing but not one person inside - not even any staff. Bizarre.

dj - I think they are basically now taking any tenant they have. THe few spots that are larger that I looked into who told me absolutely no bars or restaurants are still vacant. Good thai capitalistic values at work.

ex uk - many the ladyboys are well travelled.

on nutter - your right. I totally spaced it. thx

Update on Soi 13. They just opened a 3rd beer bar on the street level below Trendy. Simply called ‘The Pool Bar’, about 300 square meters on 2 levels.

Nice layout, but a good hike from Sukhumvit. They better hope the Trendy Condos fill up with mongers.

dj - given the current bars are not doing a roaring trade and a lot the retail space is empty - I don’t see that place ever getting really kicking but who knows.
