Well folks - been busy, busy. Yes - the hunt for the new mango continues. Sorry we can’t be more open about the process but in normal fashion we will tell all once it is safe to do so. So don’t think because it is quiet that we are not looking for a place. We are. Have not been out much but went trolling on Monday. Tried to hit some places I had not been to in a while just to see how bad or good they are doing. I decided to save this for a larger post and will relate it back to Star Wars and the use of Tractor Beams.
Not sure if people remember the Mike’s Burger joint that went in on Silom soi 1 and went right back out a few months later. Business never really got going at all from what I could tell. Then the folks behind Tawandaeng brewery bought the location and turned it into a massive 3 story Chinese restaurant with real Chinese cooks. I know because I see them in the alley way near the dirty DVD pushers smoking cigs and chatting in Cantonese. Anyway - the first month or so the place was pretty busy but they never made use of the 3rd floor seating. Things have now gotten even quieter and they hardly use the second floor either. Strange. Tawandaeng is know for some seriously busy pubs so will be interesting to see how they do over the long term. Could that address just be jinxed?
I am just going to throw this one out there because it really bugs some people but my take on ladyboys is that the cut ones who have spent most of their life looking and acting like a girl are pretty much a girl. I have met a few non-bargirl ladyboys who are post-op and have been living like a girl for a long, long time. One of them I did not even know was a ladyboy until her one of her friends told me. I think this move by Spielberg to boycott the Olympics is cool. I hope he makes good on it by not even attending the events. I think the Olympic org made a big mistake by letting China host the Olympics. They have failed on all their promises for reform and I think the pollution is going to be a huge issue. I hope there are mass protests and that in general things get way of out of hand for China in controlling the spin machine. They need a wake-up call.
On to the thrust of this post. In writing this I hope no one who has a Thai girlfriend or exhibits some of these behaviors gets upset but I just have to discuss this. I will admit that in my early years in Thailand I also committed tons of bargirl crimes but hopefully I learned and I appreciate those who helped lead the way.
Let’s first point to wiki for a proper definition of Consigliere.

I grant that right off the top here I am probably going too far with this. So maybe a better term for what I am trying to describe is a “bargirl proxy”. I first noticd this behavior with the little things. Guy and Thai bargirl get out of tuk-tuk. To be clear no one should be using a tuk-tuk so right away one smells a rat. Guy asks how much. Girls asks tuk-tuk driver how much. Driver tells girl. Girls tells guy. Guy gets money. Hands it to girl. Girls hands to tuk-tuk driver. If there is change involved tuk-tuk driver hands it to girl and girls hands it to guy. U get the picture. The whole process taking painfully longer than it would need to but for some reason u see this scenario played out all over town everyday. When ordering food, when buying things, and so on and so on.
One of my visa runs I saw this example played out to a much bigger degree. An American dude shows up to the visa bus with his girlfriend and the visa company girl asks if he has a visa or not. He looks at his girl and hands her his passport. Visa company girl waits. BTW - the visa company girl speaks better English than his girlfriend. She thumbs through his passport and finds the visa page and hands it to the VCG. She looks at is and says it is expired. It is a single entry visa and has been used. American dude immediately loses it and turns to TG to say I thought I got a multiple visa. TG says she does not know.
What then transpires is a 3 way conversation where the VCG talks to the TG in Thai who then relays it to AD in broken English. AD flusters, formulates a response to TG and then looks at VCG. This goes on for so long that I want to grab the dude and throw him into oncoming traffic and then tell the girl to report back to the go-go bar because the holiday is over. Point is the AD could have directly talked to the VCG and handled it all in minutes versus the 15-20 it took. Let’s be clear - most of these bargirls never even finished High School so why is it guys rely on these girls for knowledge and trust over and above say a person who does something for a living?
What is it with some guys that all general sense of reason breaks down and they assume that a girl 10-20 years younger than them can transform from being a bedmate, translator and travel mate into confidant, counselor and head negotiator? Baffles me. I am not saying there are not good girls out there to be trusted or that one cannot be with a bargirl in a relationship but the idea of plain relying on them for everything seems weird to me.
Last observation from the visa bus. Saw another dude walk up with his bargirl tart. U could deduce the whole story by looking at them. Some guy on a holiday falls in love with #227 from bar whatever and decides to stay longer. So he needs to do a border run. This is going to be the first time they are separated since he started paying her barfine everyday. The window in the bathroom at Tilac bar — I just don’t understand the logic in putting in a window that is just normal glass, it is NOT a one-way mirror. It is kind of funny to see guys oggling the girls before realizing it is normal glass — but that isn’t why I go to Tilac bar, so personally I wish they’d fix it!

Your Thai girl friend can help you be understood by other Thais, but you should try to manage the discussion seeking assistance only when you are failing to get a particular point accross. I can see how some people give up and hand the discussion over to their proxy especially when they believe that they are not making any progress.
I can’t really do that in Thailand because I can’t do that in real life either - I don’t want someone to negoiate on my behalf because I tend to believe I get a better deal for myself than they will.
The only areas where I am happy to hand over the conversation is where the outcome doesn’t matter much. Recently I asked my Thai girl ‘friend’ in a restaurant to “try and see if they will do one of those Japanese curries that have lumps of potato in them” (I had potato withdrawal symptoms at that point) and lo and behold one turned up - I would have had little chance of conveying either ‘japanese’ or ‘potato’ to the waitress.
My advice is that if you are using a Thai person to help you get somewhere/something just use them to translate words or concepts but keep control of the direction of the conversation yourself.

p - some are a one way mirror like in AW pattaya. The Tilac window is so narrow though so not like one can see much. We had fun making fun of people trying to pee. I don’t mind it.

Didn’t the IOC award the olympics to China with a vote in which every country who has a delegate votes. China isn’t imposing these olympics on the world. As for Spielberg I’m sure the Chinese won’t be losing* any sleep. His boycott relates to china’s relationship to Sudan. If he had any balls he’d have never taken on the role on the basis of who was offering it.

yes - naive u are. Watch the girls dropped off at nana plaza, listen to who they call when they go to the hotel for a short time and observe the interaction with the Thai male staff. What percentage of them have real Thai boyfriends - I don’t know. I can tell you though that our old security guard at the Mango blew me away when he started pointing out all the girls in the plaza he had banged and how they paid for his motorbike. They may not have boyfriends but they are Thai and the Thai guys have an edge on us. I do not think there is much difference in behavior between Pattaya and Bangkok for the most part.

In my experience with girls and the odd ladyboy, if they ask to stay over (and you’ve negotiated short time before) they probably haven’t got a boyfriend.

I guess the reason I questioned it was most of my p4p experience is gfe. Taking a girl for a week then dropping her when i skip town.
