Back to the forgotten strip of upstairs bars on Patpong 2, The Rock is a beer bar and a karaoke joint, staffed by some surprisingly attractive ladies.
The Rock reminded me a little of Soi 33, but without the sanctimonious twats and the ridiculous prices. Beer goes for a very reasonable ฿100, whilst lady drinks (if you’re so inclined) will set you back ฿150 each. It’s not a particularly big bar, but the couches are comfy enough, and karaoke facilities are apparently available.
If this place was actually on Soi 33, it’d probably do very well. Hidden up a nondescript staircase on Patpong 2, it’s quiet.
I seem to remember the girls wearing tasteful dresses, a la Soi 33, but I was pretty drunk, truth be told. I do remember learning that the barfine is ฿600, and that the short-time rate is apparently fixed by management at ฿2,000 - one of my pet hates. I wonder how much of a cut they take from the girls.
A friend informs me that manageress Jenny will be hosting The Rock’s second birthday party this Sunday, September 23. I can’t see it being quite as wild as the last bar birthday party I attended, but it might be worth a look if you’re in the area.
The Rock is the second bar from the left on the upstairs strip of bars in Patpong 2, next door to Kob’s Place. The Patpong map has now been expanded to include these bars.
i have never known anyone go up the stairs in pp two. Its amazing that any bar up their can make money.

Agreed - it's taken me well over a year to bother investigating. So I was pleasantly surprised to find a couple of cute girls in The Rock, but I don't expect them to stick around for long. Getting phone numbers is a Good Thing.

My upstairs experiences are limited to the bar called "Sideline" above Chicken Devine. I'll be interested to read what you have to say about it after you've been there.

@werewolf: I visited Sideline with a pal recently. Review coming soon, but for the impatient, I'm not recommending it
