The FARANG Speaks 2 Much

A buddy of mine sent me this link to a female Thai blogger discussing why a man looking for a wife in Thailand should try to find one that is not too hot. At first I was not sure where she was going with this but she makes a pretty good case and points out why men from around the world love Thai women in the first place - the average looking Thai girl blows the doors off most average white women from Western countries. It is nice to hear an educated Asian woman telling it like it is - a lot, not all, western women are overweight, not very feminine, and generally not that sweet. I don’t want to bash the white women since an attractive white women is an amazing sight but when it comes to the average women that most of us mere mortals deal with, we tend to find that the average Thai girl is simply more attractive. From her mouth - not mine:

I traveled other places like New York, New Orleans, Seattle and there people were even fatter than L.A. The girls that became my friends were very nice. But so many others I met were not, especially the way they acted and the way they talked about men. If any western ladies read this and get upset, sorry. I’m sure you aren’t fat, hairy and sleazy. But I saw plenty of that when I was there and I don’t see much of that here in Thailand.

That is generally the case from my experience as I traveled around the world but was usually pretty impressed with certain European countries like Spain and Italy but I must say that nothing turns my head more than being in a place like Japan or Singapore where the 1000’s of women one sees on a daily basis are attractive. As for Bangkok - my honest opinion is the ratio is even higher but I like the Thai girl look - maybe others don’t.

A lot of her post is spent discussing white men looking for a wife. I think she makes some great points about age, looks and so on. I must say I have always thought it is a dangerous thing for a white guy to meet the young hottie of his dreams in Bangkok and then whisk her away back to big girl land. Why? Just about anywhere else in the world - besides Asia - your new hot Thai wife is going to get hit on everywhere she goes. And chances are back where you come from you are an average joe with an above average wife and that might be harder to maintain back at home than in Thailand.

Before I get a lot of comments to the contrary - yes I know people do this and for some it works. I have also heard many a story of when it doesn’t work because the Thai girl is suddenly living in the world of what I call “the reverse Spicy”. As one of my friends likes to explain, going to Spicy is like being the hottest girl at the High School dance - everyone wants you. The hot Thai girl from Bangkok now living in High Wycombe is probably the hottest thing around. Like we are all when we go to Spicy. Hopefully she is a good girl and the new found attention won’t phase her but if she came from the bar world chances are she may start putting her thinking cap on while pondering the economics of butterflying in rural England. Maybe I am just to hardened but believe me it happens.

My philosophy has always been that if I am ever going to get married or settle down - I am going to stay in Thailand. Just seems easier than doing the export thing but I am sure others feel exactly the opposite and have stories to the contrary. However if you are going to take her back I think Asian Sweetheart hits on some good points to ponder.

You need to find a woman who is ugly enough. See, he meant that in Thailand ALL the women are beautiful (well, we are you know) and if you pick one who is too pretty you will have nothing but trouble when you take her back to your country. She will be constantly “hit on” by almost every man she meets and made such a fuss over. If she is young and not strong enough character she will turn rotten fast.

All in all it was nice to see a well articulated female stance from a non-feminazi Asian woman.
