My bullshit meter still works…

One of the best things about being in the Tech World was the amount of bullshit that most technologists spew on a daily basis. I should know - I was one of the worst but being in sales I guess u could say I was one of the best. I could bullshit right up there with the rest of them. I could put together a powerpoint in 1 hour - made up from other people’s powerpoints and deliver it with very little prep. Customers would assume that I of course had made it and therefore had so much to say about it. Typically I would take my breath of air in between slide transitions so I had time to figure out what I was going to say. Hell - they even paid me for this.

From time to time I will read a tech mag or blog to make sure I can still play “spot the bullshit” - this is a very handy exercise for living and working in Thailand cause we all know how much bullshit gets spewed around here. Here is what I found today from an esteemed person of position at HP in Asia.

McWhirter wants HP’s software business in Asia to grow to its fullest
potential. “(Growing) by 20 percent year to year–if we can grow at 100
percent–is not a good result,” he said.

What the hell is he saying? That’s like saying. If I knew I could make a million dollars but only made 10 then I didn’t make enough money. Okay? Isn’t that stating the obvious. Anyway. As one of my buddies would say, this should go in the book.

Totally off the topic train but shit happens. Went to Tulip the other night to blow off some … Went to Tulip and my regular was gone. I know it sounds stupid but this is a depressing thing in Thailand. There are just things I have come to expect in Thailand - monkey’s for government officials, street food, pinch hitters and my regular at Tulip. Maybe I am pathetic but it works for me. Make a phone call, hit the skytrain and I was ensured of a good time. So anyway. She did not answer the phone anymore so I should have known but I went to Tulip anyway to see if she was there and was told she quit. Great. So I told the girl at the desk just pick anyone. She did. That was a screw up. First time I was ever let down at Tulip. I went through the motions anyway but it just was not the same. Back to the drawing board.

U meet a lot of people in bars in Thailand. U meet some good people. U meet lonely people who just talk your ear off. Dry humpers we call them. They don’t have anyone to talk to and I am sure their bargirl companions do not offer the depth of conversational accumen that is required so they go to their nearest pub and talk to the first white guy they see until they are blue in the face. But what I like most is honest people. Met an old aussie chap the other day while we were watching cricket. He said. I am a pretty lucky guy. I got divorced. Came to Thailand and met a Thai banker. She is pretty and rich. So I sit in the pub all day, watch sports, drink, play golf and meet her at home later. I say nice life if u can get it. Clearly I am looking for girls in the wrong places.
