The ying and the yang

As always there is good and bad in this world and it is interesting to see the balance of it all. I was reminded of both sides of it the other day all in the same night. I was leaving Silom, the big project continues, and was heading back to Soi 4 when my Vespa ran out of gas. It seems to be leaking gas and therefore I was not expecting it to be out of gas. Anyway it was empty and I was sitting on the side of the road trying to figure out what to do.

It was past 11:00 PM which means that all the gas stations are closed. This is another leftover irritation from the Thaskin era and frankly I still cannot figure out why it happened in the first place. I don’t think it forces anyone to save fuel and I don’t think it has stopped the racing issues either but for some reason the gas station curfew is still in force and highly irritating. So there I was on the side of Rama 4 without fuel.

The first tuk-tuk pulls up and offers to take us home but I had no plans of leaving my bike on the side of the road. The next taxi pulled up and I had told my companion to go back to my apartment and see if my ever helpful(I give them beer often) security guards had some fuel laying around. However this taxi guy offered to give me some fuel out of his taxi but I was not sure how he was going to manage that.

He pops the hood and proceed to work around the fuel injection area. Engine off but a cigarette dangling from his month. This should be interesting. We looked around and found a water bottle and he pulled off the fuel hose and handed it to me. I got the drift. Hold the hose in the water bottle. He goes back behind the wheel and starts the motor. Fuel starts flowing into the bottle - rather quickly. I was worried that it would overflow and start a fire somehow but I managed to let him know when it was close to full and he stopped the motor. Nice. He came back around to the engine compartment, still with a cigarette in his mouth, and proceeded to put the fuel hose back on. I was sure we were all going to blow up but we didn’t. Topped off my motorbike and headed home. Paid the taxi guy 100 baht and he seemed okay with it all. This was such a reminder of how cool the general population in Thailand is and something I would have never expected late at night in most parts of the world. Quick tidbit. 20% of the people in Thailand control 59% of the GNP. The bottom 20% of Thailand control only 4% of the GNP. Thailand is still quite poor but the normal folk are amazingly generous. I am touched and reminds me of why I moved here in the first plus. It is not all about the chicks.

Moving on. About the chicks. Was out with a buddy pulling a late night bender and we decide to check out the club underneath the Windsor on soi 20. Windsor is a large hotel with a few dining joints, a beer garden and a massive basement club. We got there around 1:30, grabbed a bottle and a nice vantage point. This is a late night place catering to the Thais, decent music and rammed with people after 2:00 am. This was a nice change of pace. Sure it is not the normal Suk crowd negotiating short time rates on the dance floor but it was full of nice looking people and plenty of women. On the way out my friend pulled a number from a girl with just a few minutes of conversation so I am sure one can hook up here quite easily but it won’t be like meeting bar girls but I think the change of pace is nice. I suggest u check it out.

I would like to talk about what happened on the way into the club though. Thailand is blessed with many beautiful women. The average looking women beats most hotties from around the world. Take a Thai hottie and u have a stunner. So walk around places like Silom, RCA, and Sukhumvit and u see tons of gorgeous girls. Thai men are pretty lucky since most aren’t that good looking and sometimes tend to treat the women like shit. It bugs me. So there we were going into the Windsor seeing some asshole Thai guy roughing up a nice looking Thai girl. I know I have no context to the situation but no one, especially women, deserve to be roughed and outnumbered. So as we walked by I decided to ask if there was a problem and if she needed some help? Of course she did not speak but the guy stopped touching her and focused on me and my friends. He was trying to start shit but really most Thai guys in the normal world won’t take a swing or start something with a Farang unless they are justified. Of course he had no leg to stand on and he was all talk. I was buzzed so I did not care and we told him to leave the chick alone and bugger off. During this time she walked into the hotel and he stood there and looked tough. I laughed it off - to his face. I may be asking for it but hate seeing the girls roughed up. Onward ho.

Side note. To dudes working outside of Thailand who have girlfriends in Thailand. Control your buddies. There we were, after Windsor, in 7/1 partying it up and I ran into a girl I knew. We got chummy quick and it was nice to see her. We had some drinks, caught up a bit and she was getting kind of warm towards me. I should have remembered our past and just told her to go away but she is cute. About an hour later some dude comes up to me and tells me he is a friend of her boyfriend and I should take off. I told him to fuck off and that it is not my problem. He started to push me around a bit and I told him we should take it outside. Of course when he saw I was angry, drunk and with friends he backed off and snuck away. As he should have. I said my goodbyes to the girl and told her I was tired of her games. Once and for all. I left the place and went for a sandwich run. She kept calling me but I did not answer. As I have stated before. If she wants to fool around a bit and keep the boyfriend thing going then I am game. But this tweener mode thing bugs me. What bugs me more is this dude starting shit with me when I have done nothing. He may be looking out for his mate but let’s face it. When his mate is away his girl plays. Simple as that. Both of u should get a big clue.

back to the big dig…
