Coup Madness!

Coup_madness_1Well - I am sure everyone has either written or has read a Thailand Coup Blog post by now. Who gives a fuck since I write to hear myself think so I will post anyway. :) Just kidding…

As we mentioned in the Coup Weekly the only proper thing to do was drink and stare at tits but fortunately due to my divine hooks to the pre-cogs back at my apartment I knew the coup was coming and at 7:30 I was already at Tulip experiencing what could have been the last shag in Thailand. I prepaid for a 90 minute “rubdown” and afterwards I laid there with my chosen one to discuss our last moments on Sukhumvit. I was out of there by 9 and headed over to the Mango just in time to turn on CNN to see that my timing was damn near perfect.

So yes. There was a Coup and apart from every Thai on the planet using the mayhem as a chance to take another holiday, the Thai’s will use a Solar Eclipse they can’t view as a chance for a day off, life in Thailand continues to go on. As it did before and as it will continue to do. Maybe in theory things will get better or back to the way they use to be, pre-Thaksin. Prior to Thaksin we use to party all night, every gogo was mostly nude and the Full Moon parties were not based on redbull/vodka. Let’s hope we get back to those days knowing that more tourists will come and the naughty nightlife business will start to grow again. I know though - u come to Thailand for the temples, spas and street food.

The only thing I care to really comment on is how the media just loves to blow things so far out of proportion that it is almost comical. My picture is example of the huge military presence in Silom - an empty Humvee but yet the news said stay inside, don’t go anywhere and if u were planning a trip to Thailand that maybe u better rethink it. Of course this was coming from stodgy ex-government people who used to work in Thailand and who have not been to Bangkok since they teared down the beer bars on Soi 10. My point is these people have no better sense of what is going on than anyone else outside of the country but yet the choose to act like pillars of authority and discourage people from coming to Thailand. Thailand needs tourists more than ever and the thought is that without the Thaksin regime that Thailand may return to actually courting and giving tourists what they want. A good time. I love how if u watch the news today there is barley a mention of Thailand but only 24 hours ago they claimed that Thailand was decaying into anarchy. Right. I think the shit in Budapest looks a little bit worse since most western oriented societies tend to resort to violence all too quickly. Thailand endured weeks of street protests with the only casualties being heat exhaustion. Let’s get some clarity on the situation folks.

Thailand is unsteady and unpredictable that much we know but this environment also fosters the Nana Plazas of the world. Clean it all up too much and Thailand will lose the edginess that so many of us enjoy - street food, street vendors, motorci taxis, cheap eats, cheap digs and some of the most interesting culture(not always highly evolved) on the planet. So sometimes u have to have a coup or two to keep things moving along. It will be okay. The Baht held up, there was no violence and we kept the bars open. So go forth and enjoy. Keep your trip as you first planned and prepare for brighter days ahead.

    dude!

I love your positive outlook on things. It seems that Thailand is a civilized enough country to have a military coup to go so smooth so far. I remember similar shit in Russia in 1991 and 1993. It was very different from what you describe…

In any case, I thought I would write a comment to your post dated September 21, since Equinox signifies balance in nature. Hope, people of Thailand will find equanimity in their lives too.

    Keepin’ diggin’ your blog,
