I thought I’d go and see first hand whether recent events have affected the nightlife which is the main focus of this website. Under martial law, can we farangs still go and see naked ladies, and take them home, without getting mowed down by tanks?
Indeed we can.
Numbers were definitely down, though - I had my choice of seats on the Skytrain, which was a welcome change. Walked through the MRT underpass beneath Asok junction, and up into Soi Cowboy. First port of call, Long Gun. This is probably Soi Cowboy’s busiest bar, thanks in no small part to the exotic (and explicit) shows on offer, and last night was no exception. I did manage to get a seat, but had to share it - numbers may have been down, but they were still enough to just about fill this bar.
As I took my seat, two pretty young things were disrobing for our viewing pleasure on the main stage, and over the next half hour, as I supped on my Heineken, I was able to watch all manner of revealling shows take place. When they brought out the blowpipe and the balloons though, it was time to drink up and move on.
I crossed the street to Sheba’s, where the dancers were unusually covered up - minimally functional skirts and panties obscured the lower delights, whilst either flimsy tops or glued-on stars obscured the top-half attractions. I was alarmed at this sudden display of censorship, until the shift changed.
The next troupe of young ladies still had the stuck-on stars obscuring the funbags, but were otherwise completely naked (aside from shoes). And next up was the a rather graphic and explicit demonstration of the sapphic approach to physical intimacy between two very nice (and this time, completely naked) young ladies, with more doing the same sort of thing on the glass ceiling. Only in Thailand…
I had also intended to wait and see what time the bars would be closing, but unfortunately received a far-too-tempting offer from two of the cuter dancers. Gatherings of five or more people for political purposes may be currently banned by the authorities, but the gathering of three people in my bed was enthusiastically accepted by all. The things I do for you lot…
