I was denied entry into rainbow 4 last nite. the doormen didn’t allow me in because i was all by myself.
Then i tried rainbow 3 and was again denied entry. the doormen told me only members could enter.
Can anybody fill me in on these recent developments? I’ve always visited the rainbow chain. being denied entry is a shock.

I have heard of the “members only” line being trotted out to certain ethnicities before.
Thailand IS an extremely racist country; whites and Japanese are catered to in these establishments - everyone else is taking their chances. Male Thai customers are certainly not permitted inside.
Perhaps if the bar is full, or nearly full, the door staff will select what they perceive to be the “wealthier” races for entry.
Rainbow 3 is usually empty though, so something is definitely not right here - especially since you say you’ve visited before.

Just visited it last night and I have to concur - there are many, many girls there and some are just stunning. One girl told me she was a student working nights in this alternative line of work to pay for her studies. She was absolutely gorgeous, too.

@Ed: Buy me a drink?

Whoever designed the stage setup in Rainbow 4 must have been drunk. There is no vantage point to see all the dancers at once.
Rainbow 4 is one of my least liked bars because of the prima donna bar-girls. Two other bars where the BGs have bad attitudes are AngelWitch and Dollhouse in Cowboy.
At least the Rainbow bars and Dollhouse have hot dancers but I don't see what's all the fuss about AngleWitch. Who told these "showgirls" they were special? It only raises the price when they cop this superiority complex.

@KMS: "vantage point"?!
I have a mental image of you climbing high above the bar to a rocky outcrop, or clinging onto a bending branch of a tree breaking under the strain of a thousand punters.

@Combover: There is a Hong Kong flag beside your name. Can we get a review of some bars in Wan Chai?
I met a pretty Filipina in Jukes bar in Soi Cowboy about 10 years ago and she was my BGGF for a couple of years but she left Thailand to work for more money in Hong Kong.
Kowloon bars had some good looking pros from eastern Europe but I didn't want to pony up the 200 US dollars they were asking for.

@kms: Hong Kong, and indeed Wan Chai, is actually next up for the "Elsewhere" category. Keep 'em peeled.

Ohmygod! Sometimes I think I have the ability to prognosticate. The sick buffalo will be keeping his peepers open for the Chai Wan report!

Did visit Rainbow 4 in the recent visit to Bangkok, Ya their were many girls, too small a place to get around and take a look. And too many girls on the floors, no free movements their.

im gonna give rainbow 4 a try tonight as i never ventured in there….. not being racist or stereotypical, but japanese are like fucking kids when they are drunk pulling goofy faces and acting like 6 year olds- its embarrassing to watch so i tend to steer clear, but all i hear is praise for rainbow 4 so will check it out and let you know how it went

Too small? It's surely the largest gogo bar at Nana Plaza. And that's the first time I've ever heard anyone complain that a bar has too many girls.
Everyone's different, I guess…

i tried to go here last night but the guy on the door said i was too young?!?!?!?!? i said he didnt know my age, i told him i was 23, and he said ‘25 over’

Weird I've never heard of refused entry here. I was there at the weekend. Maybe try and enter with a shirt and trousers on next time.
Although some of the girls have their heads up their arses I still like this place. And the mamasan looks like James Brown.

James Brown eh? If she'd pair up with the mamasan at Kings I or II (i forget which - but the one where the mamasan looks like Marilyn Manson) then we'd have the beginning of one hell of a band.

the mama/papasan in lollipop (katoey that formerly worked in mercury) looks like ozzie osbourne minus the tattoos and sports a razor fringe - i stumbled into the toilet there from a nearby beer bar at half time of football and as i was pissing i hand a hand grab my john tompson - to my horror i looked up and it was ozzie with my john thomas in a chokehole "i suck for you - no pay - toilet now" id of gladly paid for her not to……… cue swift exit

How much is needed to spend with a girl for the night?

Maybe I'm getting a bit jaded on the Go-Go's, but the last 3 or 4 times I've gone in to the bars in Cowboy and Nana (just for a few beers and the entertainment mind you) I've been quoted with three thousand baht for long time. Keep in mind that fee is on top of the one to many lady-drinks that are almost standard procedure, plus the barfine. Add it all up and thats a hefty chunk of change.
Being a bit of a night owl myself, it's hard for me to justify paying all that money for an average girl with an attitude. Freelancers are more my thing. Most of the time, 1.5 to 2K baht seems to cover the cost of a freelancer spending all night and most of the morning.

@Heckler: I smell an article in your comment. For me, the point of bars is to meet available women. The advantage of gogo bars over beer bars or freelance hangouts is to act as a more effective filter.
Remember, some of us work day jobs, so pulling freelancers in after-hours clubs doesn't really fit with our schedule. But I can wander into a gogo bar and very quickly find a suitable girl with a decent attitude, no stretch-marks, and a good sense of rhythm, who looks good in a bikini.
I'll buy a couple of drinks and pay the barfine for a test run, but that's it. If it was good, I get her phone number, and there's no need to visit that bar again until I get bored of her.

I've never found long time to be as good as it should be. It also goes against the Whoremonger's Code - that you don't pay a whore to come, you pay her to leave. Sometimes (oh, okay, nearly always) I don't feel up to the early morning riser, and have paid the girl to sleep in my bed, which seems a tad unfair. Plus (extended metaphor alert), I've often had the tatse for a late-night snack after the main meal has been digested, and I prefer getting something fresh (ish)(to me, anyway) from one of Thailand's many bustling street markets than reheating a dish from earlier. Pick up something spicy from the street corner, or give what's left of the pot noodle a bit of a stir? In Thailand, the choice is yours! Bon appetit!*
