Today is election day in Bangkok - don’t forget to grab your favourite election day poster from the street. We picked up one for the bar last night so stop by the Mango to check it out.
Yesterday, pre-election day, meant that there was suppose to be no
places to drink. Let me be clear on this so not to confuse anyone. From
6pm yesterday until 6pm tonight there is to be no alcohol served or
sold. Right… All over town yesterday there was a bustling happy hour
business right up until 6pm. Soi 7 beergarden was in full swing and so
were many of the bars on Soi 4. Then at 6pm most places closed or
stopped serving and we had a hard time finding a place with some booze,
but wait - Robin Hood over there on Sukhumvit near Soi 33 was serving
right until the wee hours of the night. However the boys in brown
appeared to drive by at the wrong time. Such is life in Bangkok. After
we closed down Robing Hood, so to speak, we walked home via Sukhumvit
to find that almost all of the normal street bars were closed - so for
the most part alcohol was not to be found. As it should be.
So while I am at it I must mention how pathetic the Soi 19
beergarden is. I think this is owned by the same people who own the Soi
7 beergarden but they need to do something about how dead the Soi 19
location is. It is just not even worth stopping by at this point. We
stopped by yesterday to find that although the Soi 7 spot was busy in
the afternoon, at the same time we bolted over to the Soi 19 spot to
find that we would be the only customers - I don’t think so. Let’s face
it. You are not going to walk into an empty bar devoid of girls and/or
customers. So I think they better start hiring some girls given that
the freelancers are not wasting there time if they know Soi 7 is full
or they better come up with a new idea because it sure looks pretty
dead to me.
Okay. Back to the real world.
Some bars can’t make the pad to keep serving? Don’t blame astute businessmen who can and do.
Soi 19 Beergarten pathetic? Some people actually enjoy quality food (beyond a greasy burger) and a cold beer without the noise and hassle. Plenty of quim about elsewhere. If availability is a concern, blame yourself.

add some photos… one of the poster, for example.

Yeah - the one poster I grabbed is a classic I just never carry a camera enough but I should.
As for election day. Some of the biggest earners in Bangkok chose to close out of respect for the Thai laws and customs which I think was the right thing to do. Robin Hood, who chose to defy the law, got nailed - as they should have. That was all I was pointing it out.
As for Soi 19 beergarden - good to know the food is good and since I have not eaten at the Soi 7 one I should try Soi 19 some time. I think that nice thing about a blog is someone can set us straight so I will make a point of trying the food saometime.
Thanks for the comments but not really sure why you seem to be attacking everything so negatively. Is it something we said?
cheers
