Want to do business in Thailand - need an Idea?

I recently came across this company and wanted to at least share it with our readers:

http://www.ideacon.biz/

This is NOT a paid advertisement nor was I contacted by the company but rather I came across the site and thought it might be of interest to people who are considering setting up shop in Thailand. Usually people end up working with brokers and buying an existing business. Or people come here and try to build a business from scratch - which is not easy but can be done. Ideacon is a new company focusing on helping people research ideas with a goal towards starting a new company based on a new idea. It is a new concept and there are no success stories but I think it something worth noting. I also think it is important to support business in this space to encourage the overall expat/entrepreneurial landscape. I have encouraged the owner of Ideacon to share any future success stories here and I invite anyone who has experience with Ideacon to share as well. Following is a letter from the founder of Ideacon.

Book Review : Bangkok Haunts

Just a quick one folks since I know many readers live outside Thailand but love to read stuff that gives u that good old Bangkok feeling. John Burdett is at it again with Bangkok Haunts. His first book Bangkok 8 started off the series about a Thai detective whose mom owns a go go bar and his dad is an American serviceman. The second book - Bangkok Tattoo was a follow up, a very bizarre one, and now Bangkok Haunts continues the story of the detective grappling with life in Bangkok. These are great books. They pull off first person pov very well, they are set in Thailand but dwell on much larger subjects than the just the bar life and they get into some pretty heady situations. The books are fast reads and really get u into the Thai mindset from a fictional prospective. The great thing about Burdett’s books is you should be able to find them just about anywhere in the world - unlike a lot of books set in Thailand that only seem to be sold in Thailand. I won’t get into the details of the book but all three of these books make for some fun reading. Enjoy!

At least he invented the Taxi meter!

Well folks. How can an article with a title like this not warrant some discussion?

The telecom minister who doesn’t use e-mail.

So many ways to take it but before we even try to make sense of this I need to know what is happening on Suk Soi 3 lately. It is like a metamorphosis - Bamboo bar packed on a Monday night, girls lining the streets of Soi 3 and tons of girls getting primped to hit the Grace. The Soi towel-head area is hopping lately - did I miss something? Has this been going on a while and I just did not know it? I must say though I did not see any hotties since it seems this crowd is in a different weight category from the normal girls hanging around working the freelancer scene in lower Sukhumvit.

New Bar in Patpong?

Went to Nightbeatz the other night but I did not get to stay long enough to do a proper review. As u head down Asoke before u go over the little bridge that connects to Petchburi u will see Nightbeatz on the right. It looks like a dinner place/coyote place/small nightclub. I only went to the nightclub. Techo, no cover, decent priced drinks and a small layout. I did not see a freelancer scene and most people came with a girl or where in bunches of groups that were not too talkative given I was one dude on my own. I did like the tunes though, there were some hotties, and I think they are staying open late but this is for sure not a spicy like scene. Must do further research. Anyone else been?

เอา นวด ไทย - but hold the oil please…

I wanted a massage. No I was not looking for sex. I was tired, a little sore from my renewed pledge of hitting the gym everyday and I just wanted a rubdown. At first I thought I wanted a foot massage but usually I fall asleep during a foot massage and I did not want to sleep. I thought about an oil massage but I did not want to get naked and I wanted the invigorating feeling that I usually get after a proper Thai massage. So there I was on Soi 8, not because of Lolita’s, and decided to hit one of the small, normal Thai massage places to get tweaked back into an energetic mode.

Biz 101 :: The Books

The main Biz 101 section of the blog is here:

http://www.2thebigmango.com/biz-101/

When we first started out looking to build a business in Thailand, I went to the book store hoping to find something along the lines of Thailand Business for Dummies but nothing like that existed. I was possibly hoping to even find a book that might share some bar owner war stories but mostly all you will find is bargirl war stories. Maybe someday this section of the blog will spawn the Thailand Business for Dummies book but in the meantime we have a few suggestions for books that may help you in your quest to move to Thailand and start a business.
