Mango Weekly - 06 August 2006

Bangkok nightlife continues to thrive and especially so on the
weekends. The rainy season is here but relatively dry and it’s been
seasonally cool. NEP and Soi Cowboy doing good business, Patpong is a
pit. Pattaya is also doing okay. No real significant Political or
Regional news. I guess that’s good. One thing I have learned about
Thailand though is that just when things seem routine or mundane they
change dramatically. There is a strange and uncontrollable mystical
undertow in Thailand that sometimes sweeps you up unexpectedly and
spits you out a few days later like poop out of an elephant.

This week:

Bangkok Bar/Go-Go Update
After Hours Update
Tales From The Street
Big Mango Bar Update

Bangkok Bar/Go-Go Update
Queen’s Birthday is Saturday August 12th. As usual bars will not know if they are open or closed until a day or two before. It’s looking like bars will be closed. If they are closed then Friday night will be holiday eve which can be quite amusing around here. Punter versus Bar Girls negotiations are at their peak as holiday hours look to get filled. It’s mad…I love it.
NEP:
Closing times still stretching back to 2am. Hollywood on the 3rd floor still sporting some very attractive ladies. Pretty Lady is still closed. No other significant updates
Soi Cowboy:
Closing times are a little after 1am. SC is still the place for nudity plain and simple. Rawhide has the raunchiest shows at the moment. Sheeba’s, Suzie Wongs and Long Gun also have great shows. Cactus is always a fun visit but only after 11 when they bare all

After Hours Update
Soi Tunnel is dying. Why are owner’s so stupid sometimes? The death move…they added coyote-style dancing ladies on their tables. What this essentially does is bring in more guys which worked and is why the place is in decline. It’s the usual drunk idiots too. The last few visits were the same, mostly guys. The good times are over I’m afraid. However, this holds mostly true on the weekends. Weekdays still looking good. Tequilla Dragon at the end of Suk Soi 7/1 now has the title for best After Hours destination but they have recently raised their prices and still have a pretty unfriendly wait staff so it’s probably just a matter of time or until a better alternative emerges. The only freelancer discos where the women far outnumber the men are CM2-Novotel and Nana Disco but they close 2am. Sin Club on soi 4 sports a mostly guy crowd but is just as good now as the other After Hours places. Slim pickins I’m afraid but still some action.

Tales From The Street
This week’s tale is from the Malaysia trip report at http://www.2thebigmango.com/2006/08/day_1_keep_your.html . I got such a kick out of it myself that I had to make it this week’s tale. The excerpt from his trip report:
“Off I go. I was met in the lobby to the rooms by an older Chinese lady. 50+. Sure. 60+. I can’t be sure. Between 50 and 60. Sounds about right. But all in all I am sure she can give a good massage so that was all that mattered.
Jumped into the private rooms which clearly were not just for massage and I was asked to undress. I did. Hopped on the table just in time to see granny take her skirt off. What? Okay she had these huge grizzly adams like underwear meant to go over underwear shorts on so I breathed a sigh of relief. I don’t need trauma at this tender age. She started rubbing me down. Firmly but not too much so since i did not feel like screaming. Not yet. Damn. This was good. Probably one of the better Chinese style massages I have ever head. I was digging in. Flip over. More. Head massage. Arms. Heaven. Good choice. Dozing off.
Awake. Okay. All done. U want me to rub here? Grabs my meat and potatoes firmly and holds them for a sec? What? U want me to rub here? Feel good. Happy happy. I think I am okay but thanks. What? U no want? Only 20 ringit. I promise. U like. Alright. We all make decisions in life. Go left instead of right. Say yes when we should say no. U get my drift. I thought for a sec. 20. It was a good massage. Her hands are good. I bet she knows what she is doing. So I closed my eyes. Sure. Carry on. Oh my.
She did. Probably 20 minutes of the best happy ending I think I have ever had. I did not know one could be rubbed, pulled, tugged and massaged in that way. And I worked. Images of Old Faithful come to mind. I think she was even suprised but she did not lose a beat. Not one. Almost clinical in her quest for my supreme happiness. I was exhausted and took me a few before I was ready for the shower. I also felt funny but I did not let it bother me. A happy ending is a happy ending. Whether it was by someone’s Chinese grandmother or not. I kept my eyese closed. It felt great. Quick shower and out before someone I know sees me. I need therapy.”

    Ed from hawaii,

Just my luck as I arrive on september 1st at 11:30 pm. I will try to make it before 1 am. even to have the last beer there will be an honor since the big mango has been a major contribution to what I know will be a balls deep experience in Tailand. But the Nana Hotel keeps dennying my reservation. How can Nana Hotel be fully booked? My first choice for staying at the Mana hotel, with the scent of freelancers lingering outside Angel Disco parking port are shattered. I am searching for the next best place and i’ts not easy. This will be my first time in Tailand and don’t want to miss the whole Bangkok experience.

Hi Ed. Bummer on the Nana Hotel. There are a few options close by: Majestice Suites (http://www.majesticsuites.com/ closest to Nana Hotel and I’ve stayed here before, nice hotel), Omni Tower on Soi 4, and Woraburi on Soi 4. Omni and Majestic are minutes from the Nana Hotel. Woraburi is down soi 4 a bit. These are all nice hotels 1200 a night or better. There are cheaper hotels in the area like Swan and Swan2. If you need a few more names just let me know. On the 1 year Anniversary we will most likely run until 2am…that’s if the Police let NEP stay open until 2am that night. Have a good trip Ed.
