Mango Weekly - 30 July 2006

Low season has finally arrived which was delayed thanks to the World
Cup. However it’s not so low this year. A couple of possible
reasons…it’s further away from the year of the Tsunami, later closing
times, and a host of new and cool bars and clubs have sprung up. The
weekends haven’t really slowed down much and even some weekday nights
have busted through. In Bangkok the closing times have been
inconsistent but on average all bars are closing later and there are
far more after hours venues available. In Pattaya it was surely going
all night last year but this year the go-go’s are getting away with
more and many cool bars were added to the scene. It also has remained a
very affordable option. The low season may also have more of an appeal
for some punters since they generally have a wider selection and a
better bargaining position. Good trends for visitors and bar owners but
you never know when things are going to change. We shall see.

Big Mango Bar Update

Bangkok Bar/Go-Go Update
NEP:
Closing times stretching back to 2am. Some low nights but the popular go-go’s like all of the Rainbow’s continue to crank
- Hollywood (3rd Floor). The BIG news this week has to do with Hollywood 3rd Floor adding some major new talent to their lineup. Apparently they made a run down south and scooped up about six or seven stunners looking for peace and prosperity in Bangkok. Very impressive move that should start packing them in once again at Hollywood. They also have free food on Friday’s with Coyote-style dancing. Way to go Hollywood mgmt. team!
- Erotica
Cranking on all cylinders once again. Aussie John has done an amazing job at making this a top go-go in NEP. Many girls have returned since his partner hit the road and he now has over 50 girls working there with both floors going. Different than any other go-go in NEP it’s definitely worth a look. I still like the 4th floor but even the 3rd floor has gotten better
- Playskool. Continues to be the go-go that gets away with the most and the only one in NEP that is on par with Soi Cowboy when it comes to showing
- Mercury. A go-go in the dreads. No talent and bored staff. Death blows for any go-go.
- PrettyLady. Still closed

After Hours Update

- Soi Tunnel has added girls dancing on their covered pool tables. Nice touch. However, the Tunnel was mostly guys Saturday night so it appears to have jumped the shark. The weekday nights seem to be maintaining but this is not a good sign. The police have been in their shorts too. Their closing times have moved from 6am to 3am and have generally been inconsistent
- Tequila Dragon on Suk Soi 7/1 is cranking and going all night. They don’t appear to be on the Police radar…yet…so only a matter of time before their operation gets messed with. Oh the joy. The crowd here is a bit different than Tunnel. More non-working girls. Service at the bar is the only drawback. They haven’t adjusted to the larger crowds yet
- Sin Club on Soi 4 has been open but very inconsistent closing times

Tales From The Street

This week we have a rather amusing tale about how one guy remembers the special companions that "spent the night". Living in Bangkok and partaking in the various nightlife activities you may find it useful to come up with a system for remembering the ladies you meet, basically Girl Management. In the past most guys had a little black books but nowadays the mobile phone is where we mostly store this information. It becomes very important as you get those calls out of the blue. If "Noy2-greatbutt-metSoiTunnel-4stars" comes up you will be better prepared to handle the conversation. Preparation is one thing but most of the time this is done to remember the girls from the past. The amusing tale I heard had to do with how PunterA remembered his girls. Toothbrushes. Yep, he collected toothbrushes. Rather ingenious in my opinion. Over the years he had over 100 toothbrushes all with a profile attached. He intended on doing something with the toothbrushes like a website or book but one dark day a jealous ex-girlfriend threw them out. His ex-girlfriend has been blacklisted from ever winning the Big Mango Blog Working Girl of the Week award.

Big Mango Bar Update

- Big Mango Girls. Check out the new Big Mango Girls pics on www.bigmangobar.com. We are trying something new with rather well endowed Service/LadyDrink girls. We only have three girls right now but plan on adding many more. We still have a crew of Lady Drink girls as well
- One Year Anniversary Party will be on September 1st. More details to come but it will be a bash of a weekend so mark your calendars
- We lost our first game of our Pool League to New Bar on Soi 22. Michael lost both of his matches
- August Special: VB Beer for 80 baht
- Kitchen Special Of The Week: Roast Grand Mom Young Turkey with Potato Salad and Stir Fried Veggies
- Bar Manager Tip of the Week: It’s good that Customers buy your Cashier a drink or two but you but you know she’s had too much when she starts stapling receipts upside down on the drink order ticket. As a Manager you should relieve her so she can hurl in the toilet sink

Ouch on the pool thing. Looks like I am the fall guy.

Maybe my pool career has jumped the shark?
