Mango Weekly - 9 July 2006

Monday and Tuesday were days off here in Thailand. Monday was Asarnha
Bucha Day which commemorates the first sermon delivered by Lord Buddha
bringing about the ‘Ratanatraya’ of Buddhism. Tuesday was Buddhist Lent
Day which marks the beginning of the ‘lent’ period for Thai Buddhist
monks. Also a customary period in which a Thai becomes ordained and
enters in to monkshood, coinciding with the tropical rainy season. Many
farang though used this time to pursue a different kind of religious
experience. More info. below on what life is like around here before,
during, and after a 2-day holiday like the one we just had.

The 2-day Holiday
Life is certainly interesting around here before, during and after a two-day break like the one we just had.
Before: Everybody goes into "I need to hook up for the next two days because everything will be closed" mode. It’s a strategic battle between desperate farang and skilled bargirl not always ending up with a balanced compromised. You can probably guess who comes out on top. I personally like the challenge and desperation that comes along with going out during the two-day shutdown. It’s like using a metal detector on the beach. You probably won’t find anything, you look stupid trying to find something, but if you do find something it can be quite the little treasure.
During: It’s different every year on who can stay open and why but on paper everything is closed and nobody can sell alcohol. In reality you have to get out on the street and find out what’s open and what’s not. This year’s surprise open bar winner was Suk Soi 7 Beer Garden. They were open and serving both days, although the second day they closed at 7:00pm. It was packed with farangs and freelancers looking for someone special to spend their holiday with. Other than that there were a few bars open but most not serving alcohol. The action was on the street for the most part.
After: Some people who didn’t hook up were very well rested. For the other 95% they were dragging pretty hard. All is back to normal though in the kingdom.

Bangkok Bar/Go-Go Update

NEP
Bars are doing decent business in the low season. The Rainbows are always packed. Angelwitch is cranking and others seem to be maintaining.
- Erotica’s 4th floor remains open and John is trying to add more girls. This is still one of the most accommodating go-go’s for a discreet pull em and poke em experience
- Hollywood remains a Dead Zone. It’s like Chernobyl a month after the accident
- Carousel’s dance stage by the bar continues to get good reviews and has some hotties up there dancing
- Pretty Lady is still closed
- Farang Connection has hit the bottom of the list in NEP. Low talent and loud music are keeping this baby down there
Soi Cowboy
- Spice Girls is doing some great stuff. Full nude on second floor, first floor no underwear, underwear stays off when they come over for a visit are among the attractions. Much like the NEPs Pretty Lady. Not a boat load of hotties but a few gems and all very friendly
- Rawhide had some extraordinary talent and great grindingly popular shows going on this week, all in the buff I might add

After Hours Update
More 1:00am crackdown nights made for an unstable after hours scene. Turmoil for World Cup viewers. Tequilla Dragon remained the most consistent staying open every night everyone else got shut down. The 1:00am hard shutdowns appear to be related to the World Cup over-activity after hours and some shakeup in the Police department. We will see how it goes this week.

Tales From The Street
Our "Working Girl of the Week" (WGW) award winner is the muse for this week’s tale. The tale begins with drunk off his azz Punter A taking WGW home after meeting earlier that evening. Realizing that he had whiskey wiener they postpone their romp until the next morning. The next morning the romp ensues and lasts for over an hour without a happy ending for Punter A. They try many different ways of getting to the happy ending but finally Punter A throws in the towel. Punter A didn’t have a problem with this and appreciated the effort. He went to pay but oddly WGW wouldn’t take his money. He insisted but she insisted back saying that she couldn’t accept the cash because he didn’t finish and to save it for next time when she will try harder. He was astounded as I was which is why she wins the WGW award this week. This lovely lady will receive two weeks in the Caribbean courtesy of Sawatdee Condoms…okay maybe not.
