Mango Weekly - 18 June 2006

A very rainy week in Bangkok but business maintained for the most part thanks to the World Cup. The World Cup is just beginning and the fever burns hotter every day. The Group qualifying rounds will come to an end soon and then single elimination time. I have to say that the English fans are by far the most serious and seem to be pinning the greatest hopes on their team being victorious. It will be a mess if England loses or wins for that matter but I think a victory will mean less broken furniture so go England!

This week:
Bangkok Bar/Go-Go Update
After Hours Update
Tales From The Street
Big Mango Bar Update

Bangkok Bar/Go-Go Update
NEP: (staying open til 2am)
- Playskool added a few more new girls and is still rocking
- My first visit to the new Hollywood on the 3rd floor. The redecorated the place and added some more neon outside. They even fixed one of their older neon signs but it strangely reads "HOLLYWOOD STRIP THEOUE 300 GIRLS". You gotta love their attention to detail. Talent was light when I visited.
- Carousel was same as usual. A few nice girls and others. Shows are okay.
- Erotica on the 3rd floor opened up their fourth floor on Saturday and added a few new girls from the country. However, other nights are 3rd floor only until John gets enough girls every night, about 40, to fill both. There is still one ladyboy there that I saw
- Pretty Lady was crazy as usual. I don’t know, I just like the place. Just the right amount of raunch
Soi Cowboy: (staying open til 1:30ish)
- Long Gun shows were really good. Don’t know if they are still doing the lame World Cup show
- Paid another visit to 5 star looking for my friend’s ex-wife with the huge tatas. Still no sign of them
- Cactus and Jungle Jim’s were weak but I still haven’t stayed long enough to feel the friendliness of the girls
- Cowboy 1 did have some friendly girls working and made for a fun time
- Shark rules. They added even more beautiful girls putting them way ahead on the talent rankings. Apparently they are paying better which accounts for the talent
- Our Place, worse that I have seen unless you like chubby girls with no boobs
- Baccarat is still horrible. Girls have the worse attitude in Bangkok

After Hours Update
Visited a few new after hours places, Grottino’s, Foodland Level 2, and Tequila Dragon. Will also recap the After Hours offerings
- Grottino’s (Suk Soi 19). Visited this place with much anticipation and to also watch the 2am World Cup game. Took me 5 minutes to find since it’s off soi 19 and then make a left at the FamilyMart. There were 5 guys and 1 girl looking pretty bored. It’s a restaurant with a bar area. Nothing to see here…move along.
- Foodland (Suk Soi 5 level 2). Pretty cool bar with a big screen and two plasma’s. They have the S. African satellite so games are in English. No real scene here though and they have to keep the volume down since it’s open air but it was a good place to watch the game
- Tequilla Dragon Disco (go to the end of Suk Soi 7/1 and it is the last bar on the right. lights are out but go into the first floor and they will show you to the 3rd floor.). Open 11 pm. until 6 am?. Friday night’s are ladie’s nights with cocktails being 99 baht but I am not sure if this is everyone or ladies only. They play hip hop and house but I heard mostly funky house and it was pretty good! 3rd floor has some tables, some lounges seating and a small bar. not big but okay. At 2:30 in the morning there was about 25 people. Place has only been open a month has potential

To recap some After Hours offerings in addition to the bars listed above:
- Suk Soi 1 Josephine’s. Lost out in the past month because they got greedy with their prices. Other After Hours offerings came up so the crowds moved on.
- Soi Tunnel (Sanook Bar betw Suk Soi 5 and Suk Soi 7). Rules After Hours still.
- Sin Club. Floors 2 and 3 are back in business and cranking. The World Cup broadcasts in English have helped get people back.
- Suk Soi 19 Country Road. Top floor has two pool tables and food. Consistently offering a good After Hours alternative
- PennyBlack in Soi Cowboy. Still cranks until the wee hours. Has two pool tables and many chances to meet that something special
- Old Dutch in Soi Cowboy. Number one for World Cup viewing. They have been cranking this week. Packing them in for the Cup. They have many screen, food, and PJ
- Nana Disco in the Nana Hotel Suk Soi 4 open until 2am
- Suk Soi 11 (hip hop, middle of Soi 11). Still a yaa baa haven but interesting nonetheless
- Sukhumvit street vendors betw Soi 4 an Soi 23. Serving all night
- Various hotel bars/restaurants like Nana Hotel, Woraburi and Swan 2 on Soi 4
- Patpong has two Hip-Hop/Dance clubs open until 3 in the center of Patpong
- Silom Soi 6 has X-Boom and the club next door. X-boom is a gay club and the club a few doors down is mixed
- Boss Bar by Pratunam/BigC. Lame and packed Hip Hop

Tales From The Street
This week’s tale is about "sleep boxing". A friend told me how he woke one morning and noticed that his company from the previous evening had a pretty nasty black eye . He didn’t remember meeting her like that nor did he think it was a byproduct of his physical lovemaking skills. His company enlightened him saying he rolled over and clocked her during the night. She didn’t wake him and just took the 10 count…what a pro.

Big Mango Bar Update
