Keeping the Dream Alive by bkk22

In these times when some rag-a-muffin, badminton playing, hand clapping protesters can close one of the busiest airports in Asia for almost a week (at the time of writing) we could all use some cheering up. Last night a pal and I decided to turn CNN off and hit the clubs. We headed off to our normal stomping grounds way out in the wilderness of Ekkamai/Thonglor. For those unfamiliar, this is where a large majority of hi-so Thai clubs are.

Mid-Weekly update by pmmp

Been quite the busy week, eh? The Thanksgiving party was great fun. Thanks all for coming out. We also had our Charity Event party with thailandfriends.com last night. Not many thailandfriends.com people showed but many Mango customers and bloggers turned up which made for a fun and busy night. We donated 20% of our evening take to an orphanage associated with thailandfriends.com so thanks all for running up some nice bins.

The Muslim joke, the gym sauna, and well - the airport…

I won’t even guess what will happen next. Word is from CNN that the fucking PAD was able to run the few remaining police out of the airport. Let me repeat that. The PAD is getting rid of the police. Yes - all of you sane and rational people around the world probably think it is a typo which is why I typed it twice:

Anti-government protesters occupying Bangkok’s international airport forced police into a hasty retreat Saturday after officers tried to stop more demonstrators from joining the thousands whose siege has brought air traffic in the capital to a halt.

The 100 or so officers left behind nine police vans. Protesters promptly let the air out of the tires.

Turkey Day is Over!

Thanks to all who came out to the Mango yesterday. This was the first Turkey Day at the Mango and despite some hiccups it went okay. We still have some Turkey left- reduced price and all so stop by if you are still hungry. Yes  - the airport is still closed. It is insane. I was thinking coup last night and I was wrong. I am completely stunned that they can let this go for 3 days now. Political shit aside one would think that force, if needed, would have been used by now to get the airport open. I guess not.

In times like this look to Not The Nation

International Airport with the help of Hollywood actor Bruce Willis, who is currently crawling inside Terminal 2’s air conditioning system.

Police say the ‘Die Hard’ star immediately ducked into a maintenance room and then climbed through a vent when he saw that the airport was being taken over on Wednesday.

Thailand Friends Charity party is tomorrow - stop by if you want to get friendly.

Gobble Gobble 2008

thanksgiving.jpg

It’s Thanksgiving time again and a Happy Thanksgiving to all! I know, I know, many of you are not Americans and could care less. That aside, it’s still a fun little eating holiday, and towards that end we are having a special Thanksgiving day Thursday the 27th at the Mango. Along with the usual balloons, holiday Shots, and tacky holiday pin-ups, we will be offering a big Turkey Plate for 360 baht.

What comes on or around the Turkey Plate?

q3 in the shitter and the PAD needs to go

Well folks. Believe it or I had written this post yesterday morning prior to the latest lunatic outburt from the PAD. Shutting down the main airport has to take the cake. If any readers out there still think the PAD is good and helping the country then I am just stunned. This is the worst thing they could have done. A blow to tourism, exports and disrupting the flow of life for people who do business in and around Thailand. It amazes me the country is allowing this to happen - in other parts of the world this would be impossible but here it is just par for the course. Say goodbye to high season folks.

What happens next? I have no clue at this point.

From the IHT:

The airport raid, carried out Tuesday by men wielding metal rods who pushed past riot police officers, was the climax of three years of intermittent protests that have tarnished Thailand’s long-standing image as a freewheeling but stable nation.

Hmmm. Non violent protest full of people carrying metal rods pushing by police to close an airport. The PAD needs to go. End of story.
