Fame (sort of), and Other Tales

It’s strange. Only a little over two years ago, I moved from the UK to Bangkok. I’d been here before, on vacation, but didn’t really know what I was doing.

I’d searched the web for information on the bars, and found little of relevance or use. So I figured that I’d start my own site, effectively writing a guidebook that I would have appreciated reading myself.

I initially just planned a site full of bar reviews, massage reviews, and that sort of thing. This idea went stale pretty quickly - the information was useful, but hardly a compelling read.

Instead, I soon discovered that writing about my adventures in the bar scene and beyond was much more enjoyable, and seemed to be more appreciated by the three of my mates who were actually reading the website. I kept writing the bar reviews, but only as background information for the tales themselves.

I never really thought anyone other than those three mates would read it though. I didn’t really think anyone else would be very interested.

I was wrong.

Even uni girls go…

From this thread the major takeaway I am sensing is that I should post more about politics. I got it. However today the only thing worth mentioning is this one - too funny.

Pol Sgt-Maj Charas Thaichaina walked into the crowd of protesters at 12:10 am to complain that he had been deployed to watch over the protesters for three straight days without a break to return home to visit his wife and children.

Now that we have cleared that up - we can move on to the less important subjects.

A Celebration of Mediocrity

This picture came up on page 2 of my Google Image Search for 'great sex', which amused me.
What, really, does the Bangkok “naughty nightlife” scene all come down to? Well, sex. Sure, there’s sex. And lots of it.

But after a while, it all gets a little “same same”, as the locals would put it.

Maybe I’m jaded. Maybe I’m perverted. Actually, scratch the “maybe”. But while fantastically great sex can be had with the “entertainment providers” of Bangkok, it all too often isn’t.

Everyone’s had a “starfish” experience. Sometimes the girls just can’t be bothered. But that’s only a small part of the issue - there’s rather more to it for me.

“My mother said it was simple to keep a man; you must be a maid in the living room, a cook in the kitchen and a whore in the bedroom.” –Jerry Hall

That’s not a hard combination to find here, there are tens of thousands of whores in this great city, and most of them are far better at cooking and cleaning than I am.

But there are levels of whoredom…

The Pattaya Ghost - Issue #3: Pattaya Ugly

Pattaya Ghost: Issue #1 :: Issue #2

Violet: You know those girls?
Romero: Yeah. They’re here every morning; winding down. They have to in their line of work.
Violet: Are they hookers?
Romero: No. Coyotes.

I doubt that when Gina Wendkos wrote that bit of dialogue for the screenplay of 2000’s “Coyote Ugly” she ever imagined her trite tale of women dancing and singing in short shorts on table tops would spawn a national phenomenon half-a-world away. But here we are, eight years later, and Thai girls are wriggling into micro shorts and halter tops in ever increasing numbers in Pattaya to try and convince us (and themselves) that they’re not, in fact, hookers. They’re coyotes.

bkk in a bigger funk than the funk it was already in…

I wrote my bkk in a funk post a bit back. Seems things are not getting much better with the baht now at its lowest in 5 months but hey - maybe this will bring in the tourists? Well - not if it did not look like the government was getting ousted again. I have said it many times - Samak is a lunatic and needs to go. Looks like that is happening which will probably lower the possibility of a coup but I love how the brother in law of Thaksin is rumored to be Samak’s replacement. Thai rak Thai lives again. Nice. I love this though:

Sources said Samak was very annoyed with the police, who failed to prevent the PAD from surrounding the heart of his administration.

I am sure the police had marching orders from someone other than Samak. Go figure.

So it looks like a coup has been pushed off for a bit but I don’t think the turmoil is over. Just another day here but the stock market popped on the lack of violence. Such a calming effect.

Gently Attacked!

I had happened to be cruising by the plaza the other night and overhead a group of people chatting with a guy about HIV and the Plaza. Of course I listened in since I always get interested in this stuff. I am sure folks remember some group of preachers who used to sit near the entrance of the plaza and yell - I mean preach at the girls and the guys. Their Thai was quite good and they had an impact. People wanted to kick their ass and they were always being asked to leave. In my opinion, whether they have a valid message or not - this was not the way to do it. So to see a different group working the plaza I was keen to chat with them.

Changing the way I P4P by Catman

Firstly, let me tell you my situation. I have a long term girlfriend here in Bangkok. She’s a great girl and comes from a good family, has had a good education, and now has a decent job. I wouldn’t leave her for anyone else and I couldn’t ask for anymore in a partner. We don’t live together as yet, but we do see each other every night and she has a key to my place.

On the other hand, I’m the same as every other guy on this blog. I was firstly attracted to Thailand by these beautiful women and the novelty is yet to wear off. For me to live in Thailand and not endulge in P4P activities every now and then is like giving a kid an open bag of sweets and telling them not to eat any…..it just ain’t gonna happen.

CLF

Suddenly, it dawned upon me that perhaps my gallant, chivalrous course of action was perhaps not the most sensible approach to the situation.

A gaggle of mean-looking Thai “security” staff loomed ahead. A few more to either side. CLF was cursing them in at least three different languages from behind me, at the top of her tiny lungs. “I saat” means something along the lines of “fucking animal”, except it’s rather more serious than it sounds. There were a few good old Anglo-Saxon “fuck you”s in there too, and a stream of Thai, Issan or Khmer (maybe all three) curses on top for good measure.

I kept backing up, holding her behind me, with a rictus grin a mile wide apologising and smiling foolishly at the mean-looking Thai guys who seemed to have murder in their eyes.

I’ve had better nights out.
