Combover on AC

Well, just back from AC and I can report that BFs are going strong. A fair bit pricier than before though, PHP1200-1300 on average (Atlantis excluded). Anyway, the girl gets half of that, and generally they are very happy with a PHP500-1000 tip afterwards. Beer runs from PHP65-95 and you can find a gogo bar open around the clock.

A First-Timer’s Look at Chiang Mai by Werewolf

Okay, let’s get the caveats out of the way up front. I still remember my first week in Bangkok . If I wrote a summary of that city after being there for four and a half days my thoughts would have been incomplete, incorrect and largely invalid. (oddly, I was keeping a diary of my holiday on-line, so I really can go back and see what I had to say).

A month ago, I had never been to the north of Thailand . Three weeks ago I had never been to Chiang Mai. That changed in June; I have now spent 4 weeks in Northern Thailand and 4 ½ days in the city of Chiang Mai .

People like me who visit Bangkok for the first time tend to stay in a few small areas like Nana, Patpong and Soi Cowboy. Based on information from the internet I’ve done much the same in Chiang Mai… I’ve stayed where the farangs stay and I’ve gone to the places where farang (tourists) go.

So – argue and criticize all you want to – this isn’t the “Users Guide to Chiang Mai” but the “First Timer’s Look at Chiang Mai”. It’s the impression of the uninformed. If you want to comment and say I’m wrong, that’s fine – but don’t just tell me I’m an idiot — tell me what I can do better on my NEXT trip to Chiang Mai.

Alright. Caveats finished. On with the blog.

Chiang Mai is in the mountains. The entire area is more beautiful than central Thailand (ie. Bangkok and surrounds). That’s a fact.

Pattaya Ghost Blog

Pattaya’s nightlife scene was abuzz this week after it was learned that a police officer had gone into a large Walking Street go-go seeking a dancer and her customer in connection with a set of nude photographs posted to an Internet message board.

New Living Dolls One owner Shane Wheatley said the cop, a well-known shakedown artist, was seeking to extract money from both the girl and her customer under threat of arrest for violation of the 2007 Computer Crime Act. But it was Wheatley’s published comments that the incident was more than just a one-off that set Walking Street ablaze.

Value for Money

Bangkok’s gogo bars have been getting a bit of a slating recently in terms of service and value. According to the majority of commenters that I’ve read on the subject, the girls seem more and more to be completely disinterested in having fun - rather just looking to maximise their profits by delivering perfunctory service in as swift a time as possible, whilst still demanding top dollar.

There are, of course, exceptions, as I’ve found myself saying rather often recently. And as I mentioned on that page, perhaps it’s more satisfying, in a way, to find the One Awesome Gogo Girl in a bar, who performs with delightful enthusiasm and a fervour for fornication. But when you come across (f’naar f’naar) her mercenary counterparts, it’s no fun at all.

Some would say the girls are quite entitled to provide shoddy service. After all, how enthusiastic would you be about the prospect of being crushed under a lardy, drunk, sweaty and aging farang?

The old-timers often hark back to the days of old, when there was no such thing as “short-time”, because you knew she’d be staying all night, shagging you seventy-three times, and then cooking you a full English breakfast in the morning, with extra black pudding. In a maid’s outfit. In which she would then slip under the dining table, in order to fellate you as you crammed dead pig and scrambled eggs down your maw. All for just 20 baht, or free on Sundays.

The birth of another legend…

prep.jpgpic2.jpgHad some free time on my hands this moring and rounded up some of the makings for a proper Mango McMuffin. I will admit I have not found the right English Muffin and would love to know if anyone has a clue for where to find them in bkk. I used Canadian Bacon, yellow cheddar cheese, an egg and of course a nice hash brown. It needs work but I will get it right at one point. Watch here for further progress…

When animals attack! Celebrating White Trash the Thai way!

a_white_trash.JPGI am big fan of trash TV. I think it showcases the side of America that the rest of the world should examine more just to realize that America is not just New York, Hollywood and Silicon Valley. It is mostly malls, trailer parks, suburbia, walmart, fast food and well - trash. I used to think otherwise myself until I was forced to drive from Waterloo, Ontario to Salt Lake City, Utah. Why you ask? I was stuck in Waterloo having a meeting with RIM when September 11 took place. Planes were grounded and I rushed back over the border in my rent a car hoping to catch the private plane my company had rented to get people from the east coast back to the west coast. I missed the plane.

Big Mango Bar Grand Opening

firework1.jpg

Of course there will be much talk about the significance of this date but honestly it has nothing to do with the Independence of America or all the celebrations that the 4th of July entails.

It is really just the first Friday that made sense since this coming Friday was too early. So after we sat down and tried to figure out a date it became clear that the 4th of July made the most sense.

The blogosphere will be awash in heated discussions somehow relating this date to America and so on but that is just not the case.

So to make sure no one thinks this is about the 4 of July I encourage you all to study the diagram above since I have always wondered how fireworks work.

For the Grand Opening:

  • Happy Hour all day and all night
  • After 6pm there will be some free food
  • We will make the rounds with free Mango Shots as needed

Stay tuned for more details, still firming them up, but we just want to make sure you reserve the day given there might be some competition for your time.

Fame (sort of), and Other Tales

It’s strange. Only a little over two years ago, I moved from the UK to Bangkok. I’d been here before, on vacation, but didn’t really know what I was doing.

I’d searched the web for information on the bars, and found little of relevance or use. So I figured that I’d start my own site, effectively writing a guidebook that I would have appreciated reading myself.

I initially just planned a site full of bar reviews, massage reviews, and that sort of thing. This idea went stale pretty quickly - the information was useful, but hardly a compelling read.

Instead, I soon discovered that writing about my adventures in the bar scene and beyond was much more enjoyable, and seemed to be more appreciated by the three of my mates who were actually reading the website. I kept writing the bar reviews, but only as background information for the tales themselves.

I never really thought anyone other than those three mates would read it though. I didn’t really think anyone else would be very interested.

I was wrong.
