It is kind of a tradition for me now so I might as well continue it. It is the end of the year. Another one behind us. Another one seemingly looming in front of us. 07 was not bad but it was not great and I am hoping 08 is better. We shall see. Let us take a journey though - back to the beginning. We always forget how things start.

Another chapter behind us…
Published by on December 31st, 2007 in Main and The Making Of. 18 CommentsMassage parlors, soapy massage joints, or entertainment centers. Pick your name for them - they are just about everywhere. I was on a mad furniture hunt the other day and was coming back from Fashion Island - which is near Min Buri - and happened to cross over into civilization using Ram Intra Soi 85. A small out in the middle of nowhere soi and sure enough there they were. 2 of them. Sitting right across the street from each other. For sure these places were not built for Farang. I honestly have not been able to dig up any good history or origin information for the Thai soapy and Turkish bath. Anyone have any clues?
Went on a Soi Cowboy run last night. Pretty slow in all the bars overall. Visited the newly renovated Tilac and the “in desperate need of renovation and attitude transplant” Long Gun amongst others.

No big resolutions or revolutions yet. Christmas was a success down at the Duke. Thanks to all who came out. Much appreciated. Had a nice turkey sandwich today. Yummy. I am in a weird funk. I don’t really feel like hardcore partying for some reason. Maybe it is a phase. It could have come with the onset of the process I am currently going through to reach dreadlock nirvana. Dreading ain’t easy but for some reason I am enjoying the transition but I am glad I tried it since I met the Thai Jack Sparrow down in Khao San. Yes - I can wash my hair and believe me the ladies are not running away. I have decided, not promising, that I won’t drink from now until New Year’s Eve. A slight detox. Does the body good. This could be part of another evolution I am experiencing. Just maybe.
MRT Madness and can I borrow a 100 baht?
Published by on December 24th, 2007 in After Hours, Main and The Making Of. 27 CommentsBetween blow by blow election coverage, consoling myself after the loss of the MCLame breakfast menu and prohibition - I just have not had time to do much but I did have some fun last week that I thought I would share. The election is over and we can all get back to our regularly scheduled habits. Asia Times has some coverage of it all today and it is pretty interesting. Hopefully things will stay calm but I really wonder if any of this will allow Thailand to actually move forward. High season is here but most people will tell you this is one of the worst months on record in a while. The multiple no drinking days pretty much kills the bar biz.
Seems friskodude is glued to our top notch election coverage but still no inclusion of our site on his Thailand blogroll. DTR is not there either though so we both must be doing something right. I will press on.
Shameless. I know but some people have asked and a little promo now and then should not kill anyone. If you are still looking for a place to have your Christmas meal, never fear - the Duke is here. We are serving a set Christmas menu on Dec 25 starting at 12:00 pm. The price is 990 baht a person. If you are interested you can call 02234 2875 to reserve your spot. Or you can email as well. Read on for the menu. Thx.
Election time. Vote now - vote often. Also, don’t drink and vote. However - this is not the important news of the day. What is really important right now is sorting out if McDonald’s has really ceased their recently kicked off breakfast menu. Yes. Only 4 months ago we broke the lead that McDonald’s was beginning to serve a limited but real breakfast menu. Not the Big Breakfast. Not the coveted Bacon, Egg and Cheese Biscuit but at least a proper Sausage McMuffin with Egg. A tasty morsel that when timed with the onset of a proper hangover can help make life here in Thailand just a little more perfect than it already is. I can’t confirm if the destruction is citywide but based on early morning spot checks it seems that coupled with the ushering in of democracy, Thailand has bid farewell to breakfast the Golden Arches way.
Polymorphous Light Eruption (PLE) by pmmp
Published by on December 22nd, 2007 in After Hours and Main. 23 CommentsOkay, I’ll admit it, last night I had whiskey wiener and couldn’t deliver the wood. My company for the evening was a girl I’ve now seen a few times. I apologized and then passed out as she laid there legs spread wide open.
